Episode 8 recap: Gu Yuan disguised himself as a miner to gather clues.
Old Ji reported the events of the night to the boss, but the boss didn't believe him. The boss thought Old Ji was stealing and wanted to kill him. Zheng Tai, the assistant of the gold mine owner, reminded him about the legend of corpse chasing in Xiangxi. It's possible that what Old Ji encountered last night was a corpse, and the bullets they shot might have hit the body. The assistant believed that the two people who died at the mine were from Xiangxi, so the legend of corpse chasing could be true. Che Suwei and Ren Mengyao came to find Yan Junjie and scolded him, demanding that he release Gu Yuan. After Gu Yuan was freed, Che Suwei informed them about their mission in Sha Prefecture and asked Yan Junjie for help in investigating the case.

That night, Yan Junjie and Gu Yuan went to steal the registration book. Just as they opened the safe, they alerted the guards. However, they did not find the registration book inside the safe. While Gu Yuan was searching for the book, he discovered some white objects and noticed another person in black clothes. Gu Yuan and Yan Junjie tried to hide in a room, but they ended up fighting with the person in black clothes. In the end, Gu Yuan was knocked unconscious, the person in black clothes escaped through the window, and they were captured by the guards.
