Episode 12 recap: Jiu Ling married Rong Yu, and the entire He family was executed.
He Qiu Ting carried Jiu Ling and came out, but the streets were filled with soldiers conducting strict inspections of passersby. It was impossible to leave the city now. Helpless, He Qiu Ting had no choice but to forcefully enter the Rong residence while carrying Jiu Ling. As he walked, he called out for Rong Yu, saying that He Jiu Ling was looking for him. Rong Yu, who had been bored and restless waiting for Jiu Ling, heard the voice and quickly ran to the door. He Qiu Ting handed Jiu Ling over to Rong Yu and commanded them to get married immediately, as it was a law that exempted women from punishment.
Jiu Ling refused, but He Qiu Ting urged her loudly, saying that he wanted to leave a descendant for the He family. At this moment, the pursuing soldiers had arrived at the entrance of the Rong residence. He Qiu Ting desperately held the door to buy time for Jiu Ling, but she was still hesitant. Seeing that he couldn't hold on any longer, He Qiu Ting opened the door and went out to fight the enemy. He Shan also came out to help Qiu Ting, engaging in a fierce battle with the pursuers.
Jiu Ling realized the seriousness of the situation and knelt down to worship the heavens and the earth. Jiu Ling saw that Qiu Ting had already been covered in blood and tearfully bid farewell to her brother. He even threatened to go with them. Seeing this, Rong Jiang spoke up, saying that Jiu Ling was now a member of the Rong family and had no relation to the He family.
Song Da Ren was deterred by Rong Jiang's prestige and left begrudgingly. Rong Yu guarded Jiu Ling day and night, willingly sleeping in the outer room to better take care of her. On the day when the He family was beheaded, Jiu Ling finally regained consciousness. She struggled to sit up and, accompanied by Rong Yu, made her way to the market square.
The appointed hour arrived, and Song Da Ren arrogantly gave the order for the execution. Unfortunately, the loyal and righteous members of the He family were thus sacrificed at the hands of treacherous officials and villains. He Jiu Ling got off the carriage and walked on the snow-filled street with great difficulty. She knelt deeply in the direction where her father and brothers had met their tragic end, bidding them a tearful farewell.
After returning home, Jiu Ling remained melancholic and unhappy, twitching and crying in her dreams. Rong Yu felt deeply distressed upon seeing this.
The next day, Rong Yu went to the astrology hall for a class. He was very worried about leaving Jiu Ling alone at home but reluctantly left her. Rong Jiang sent someone to find Jiu Ling. When Jiu Ling went to meet him, she encountered He Shan carrying a bundle.
Jiu Ling quickly bowed deeply to He Shan, thanking him for his selfless help in assisting Third Brother Qiu Ting against the pursuers. Seeing He Shan carrying a bundle, she asked him what he was doing. He Shan replied that Master Rong had relieved him of his position as a guard and ordered him to leave immediately, never to set foot in the Rong residence again.
Jiu Ling knew that He Shan was still being implicated because of her. He Shan advised her not to blame herself, as gaining and losing, meeting and parting were all common occurrences in life. He asked Jiu Ling not to tell Rong Yu the truth and to say that he had returned to his hometown if he inquired about him. After bidding farewell to He Shan, Jiu Ling kept thinking about his words and felt that from now on, she would be alone and have nothing that she couldn't let go of.
Upon seeing Jiu Ling, Rong Jiang sternly set many rules for her, commanding her not to engage in violence and killing, and not to let Rong Yu worry about her. She should care for Rong Yu, and they should sleep in separate beds instead of letting Rong Yu stay in the outer room. Jiu Ling agreed to follow all the instructions.
Rong Jiang also mentioned that in three days, there would be a promotion banquet for Song Da Ren from the Ministry of Justice, and Jiu Ling should accompany Rong Yu to attend. Jiu Ling clenched her fists tightly and nodded in agreement. Rong Yu attended his class at the astrology hall, but he didn't understand much. However, he was well-liked by the children. He told them that his wife was unhappy, so he wanted to go back and accompany her. One of the children offered to give him Jiu Ling's birth details, and he would have his father divine and find out why Jiu Ling was unhappy.
To Rong Yu's surprise, he blurted out Jiu Ling's birth details.
