Episode 13 recap: Rong Yu's astrological abilities gradually recovered, and Jiuling was subjected to punishment from the Rong Jiang family.
Jiuling went to pay respects to her father and brothers. Several piles of yellow soil stood desolately on the barren land on the outskirts. Jiuling lit three incense sticks and knelt down in deep reverence towards the graves of her father and brothers. At that moment, her helplessness and sorrow were beyond anyone's understanding. Rong Yu, accompanied by Zhan Ping, prepared to return to the Rong Mansion. He was worried about what gift to give Jiuling for her birthday, and Zhan Ping advised him to go back and choose something from the gift storeroom.
While driving, Zhan Ping accidentally bumped into an elderly person while trying to avoid a stray cat. She quickly got out of the car to check if the elderly person was injured, but the cat jumped onto the car. Rong Yu saw this and immediately took a liking to the cat. He walked ahead with the cat alone and noticed that the casino was particularly lively, so he followed along.
Rong Yu joined in with others placing bets in the casino, but ended up losing all the money in his pocket. When the others saw the Nine Dragon Jade Pendant he was carrying, one of them took it and used it as a bet. Rong Yu tried to take it back, but the casino staff prevented him and forced him to place a bet. Suddenly, Rong Yu had a moment of enlightenment. His mind rapidly calculated, and he used divination to predict the outcome of the dice, resulting in him winning every time.
The casino owner accused him of cheating, but everyone condemned the owner for falsely accusing Rong Yu. The owner had no choice but to cheat secretly, but Rong Yu discovered it and exposed him. Everyone saw that the casino owner indeed had something hidden, so they surrounded him and a fight broke out. With the help of a gambling friend, Rong Yu collected all the money he won and put it in a basket on his back, happily walking along the street.
As Rong Yu walked ahead, the casino owner sent his henchmen to follow him, ready to snatch the money at any moment. Suddenly, Rong Yu remembered the cat and stopped to open the basket. He found a lot of money inside, but he only recognized gold and silver ingots, not the paper bills. So he tidied up the money and left it by the roadside. The people following him didn't understand his intention. Rong Yu single-handedly stirred up the whole scene, showing that he was not an ordinary person. However, they couldn't resist the temptation of money, so they suddenly pounced on the paper bills and started grabbing them.
Unable to find Rong Yu, Zhan Ping returned and told Jiuling about it. Jiuling hurriedly rode out to search for him and found Rong Yu walking alone on the street. She quickly approached him and pulled him onto the horse. Back at the mansion, Rong Jiang was looking for the Nine Dragon Jade Pendant from Jiuling. He asked Rong Yu if he had seen it, and Rong Yu answered that he hadn't.
Zhan Ping saw that Rong Yu had so much gold and silver in his basket and asked him where he got it from. Rong Yu gestured for a while, but Zhan Ping couldn't understand what he meant. Jiuling came to the outer room with a blanket and Rong Yu thought he had done something to make Jiuling angry. He felt uneasy and wanted to do something for Jiuling to put his mind at ease.
Jiuling was practicing calligraphy when she suddenly heard that Rong Yu fell into the lake. She hurriedly went out to check and wiped the water off Rong Yu. She also asked Zhan Ping to prepare some sweating soup for him. Just then, a servant came to find Jiuling and informed her that Lord Rong wanted to see her. Jiuling was summoned by Rong Jiang to the ancestral hall, where he was wiping the memorial tablet of Rong Yu's father, Rong Shan. Rong Jiang narrated the story of their Rong family to Jiuling. When their parents passed away, it was Rong Shan, the eldest brother, who took care of Rong Jiang. However, Rong Shan also died young, and Rong Jiang treated Rong Yu as his own son, raising him carefully for twenty years.
Rong Jiang forbade anyone from harming Rong Yu, but since Rong Yu met Jiuling, he had been injured multiple times. He questioned Jiuling if it was her medicine that caused Rong Yu's current condition. Jiuling solemnly kowtowed to Rong Shan's memorial tablet and admitted that she was responsible. Rong Jiang angrily stated that if she hadn't confessed, he would have killed her today. But regardless, she would still be punished for Rong Yu falling into the lake, no matter the reason.
Rong Jiang used a ruler to mercilessly beat Jiuling, and even the stewards felt sorry for her upon hearing it. Rong Yu was still waiting for Jiuling to come back for dinner, but Zhan Ping persuaded him that at this point, Jiuling must have stayed with Lord Rong to have a meal. Meanwhile, it began to snow heavily, and Rong Yu felt delighted. He had jumped into the lake in order to catch the legendary koi fish that was said to bring good luck. He wanted to surprise Jiuling, and now that it was snowing, he wanted to do something for her.
So he ran out with Zhan Ping. Jiuling was covered in injuries from the beatings, and she thought about applying some golden wound medicine. But then she bitterly smiled and muttered to herself that this wasn't the He family, so what was she thinking? She fell into a daze and entered a dream, where she played and frolicked with her brother Qiuting, and witnessed the scene of his cruel murder by pursuers.
Jiuling was awakened by noises outside and got up, put on her clothes, and opened the door. She found Rong Yu and Zhan Ping building snowmen and even folding many little rabbits. Jiuling's heart was filled with mixed emotions upon seeing this.
