Episode 14 recap: Lu Jiang investigates Su Pan's background.
Wei Hong Jun suspects that Wang Jie had a reason for not disclosing that Xu Mai had stayed overnight at the Pan family's doorstep. Lu Jiang believes that Wang Jie didn't want to speak up easily because she was well aware of the grievances between the Xu and Pan families and was unsure how to handle the situation. As for Su Pan, she was busy with the acquisition of Yuanke at that time, and Xu Mai was the person in charge of the acquisition for Pengyi Group. So they had to be cautious and not falsely incriminate Xu Mai or defend him.
Xu Mai has successfully acquired Yuanke, but he is frustrated by the frequent police interrogations. Xu Ke Ji demands that Xu Mai first resolve the matters related to Yuanke before discussing anything else. Yan Qing Qing is dissatisfied and insists on securing Xu Mai's rightful shares before Xue Ning's son graduates from college.
Xu Mai advises Yan Qing Qing not to cause trouble since they already have enough money to last two lifetimes. However, Yan Qing Qing refuses to let it go and demands that Xu Ke Ji ask his police friends about the reasons for Xu Mai's frequent interrogations. Xu Ke Ji is displeased with both of them and refuses to comply. Yan Qing Qing considers handling the matter herself.
Xu Mai quickly stops Yan Qing Qing and reminds her that if she does that, it will make him appear guilty and work against him. Yan Qing Qing knows that Lu Jiang was transferred from the Provincial Bureau to the Linjiang Narcotics Control Brigade, and since then, Xu Mai has been frequently called in for questioning. She suspects that Lu Jiang is up to no good.
Xu Mai promptly declares that he is innocent and not afraid of any accusations. He advises Yan Qing Qing not to make baseless assumptions. Lu Jiang analyzes the information provided by Lu Qi and Wu Yi Dong and concludes that Ma San was originally a minor character and shouldn't have caught the attention of Feiying. On the other hand, Hou Ping An's work performance was average, but he received a tip-off after Dai Zhi Yong was transferred to Linjiang and successfully solved a case. This case occurred three days before the Feiying drug case.
Lu Jiang believes that Feiying must have had a reason to involve Ma San. He instructs Lu Qi and Wu Yi Dong to continue digging into the social connections between Ma San and Hou Ping An, as he believes there must be an intermediary who introduced them. Lu Jiang receives information that the local police in Dai Zhi Yong's hometown have found something, so he immediately prepares to go to the Provincial Bureau. Before leaving, he requests that Wu Yi Dong and Lu Qi speed up their research and gather the information. However, as soon as he leaves, Wu Yi Dong goes to help Xu Jia Yin with some work.
Dai Zhi Yong happens to see Wu Yi Dong carrying water and a cloth, and he follows him. He overhears the conversation between Xu Jia Yin and Wu Yi Dong and learns that Xu Jia Yin intends to modernize the evidence room's management, which he finds interesting. When he returns, he specifically looks into Xu Jia Yin's file and discovers that Xu Jia Yin's father is Xu Ke Ji and his brother is Xu Mai. His expression darkens.
Lu Jiang had just gone to the Provincial Bureau when Lu Shan called him, saying there was something important to discuss. Lu Jiang couldn't come back, so he decided to wait until he returned. Su Pan received a critical illness notification from Pan Yue Yang and immediately called Lu Jiang, but his phone was switched off. Su Pan had no choice but to call the detachment. Dai Zhi Yong learned that it was Su Pan calling and took the initiative to answer the phone, but as soon as Su Pan heard Dai Zhi Yong's voice, she hung up directly, leaving Dai Zhi Yong feeling helpless.
Lu Gao Yuan brought Gong Qi to the hospital to visit Pan Yue Yang. Later, Dai Liangfu had an accident and fell off a cliff, and the Dai family lost their main pillar. They then found relatives to send Dai Zhi Ying for adoption, although Dai's mother never agreed. Despite that, Dai Zhi Ying still disappeared from the Dai family.
Lu Jiang wanted to know everything about Dai Zhi Ying, so he had the plainclothes police officer take him to talk to people who might know about Dai Zhi Ying's situation. Due to his limited time, the two of them went immediately. Dai Zhi Yong went to the road where Hou Ping An went missing and kept watch. He noticed Hou Kuai Le acting suspiciously and learned that Hou Kuai Le was trying to find some clues to solve the case. Dai Zhi Yong felt extremely guilty and watched as Hou Kuai Le returned home. Outside the door, he heard Hou's mother crying, and he felt particularly remorseful. He quietly stuffed the money he had on him into the door crack.
