Episode 13 recap: Jiang Li found out the causes of death for several victims.

Jiang Li recalls the partially preserved letter she saw at the Li family's old residence, with the signature "Lan" at the bottom. She suspects that the letter was written by Cui Lan to Chunyan. Finally, Jiang Li discovers the causes of death for several victims. Their heads were all impaled by a nail. Li Canglang suspects that the killer might be a blacksmith. When he mentions the physical characteristics of a blacksmith, Li Canglang suddenly thinks of someone.

While examining Cui Lan's body, Jiang Li notices ants crawling under her head. She asks Shen Xiuning to investigate, and it is discovered that a long iron nail is embedded in Chunlan's skull, just like the other victims. From this, Jiang Li immediately deduces the killer's modus operandi. The killer first drugs the victims to render them unconscious and then nails a heated iron nail into their heads. Since nailing an iron nail into a person's head requires strength, Shen Xiuning and the county magistrate speculate that the killer is most likely a blacksmith.

Shen Xiuning and Jiang Li take the iron nails extracted from the victims' heads and visit the blacksmith shops in the county town to inquire. One of the blacksmiths tells them that those iron nails were likely forged by Zhou the blacksmith. The person even sighs, mentioning that Zhou the blacksmith had a gambling problem and ended up with a lot of gambling debts. In the end, he sold his daughter to Lord Jiang.

Zhou the blacksmith's daughter is Chunyan. Shen Xiuning and Jiang Li are analyzing the relationship between the killer and Chunyan when Li Canglang suddenly asks Shen Xiuning what physical characteristics a person would have if they were a blacksmith for a long time. After thinking for a moment, Shen Xiuning tells him that besides having great strength, their hands would have calluses, and there might be wounds on the back of their hands. Upon hearing Shen Xiuning's words, Li Canglang suddenly remembers Wanwan. However, he doesn't believe that Wanwan would commit murder. In order to help Wanwan prove her innocence, he pretends to be drunk and searches her room after she leaves, finding two porcelain bottles, which he hands over to Jiang Li.
