Episode 4 recap: The Story of Fang Lian and Madam Jiang.
Upon seeing Jiang Li leaning in for a kiss, Shen Xiuning quickly dodged and suspected that Jiang Li's three tests were just a prank. Jiang Li knew that the game could be restarted, so she decided to pretend to slit her throat and trick him again. However, Xiaopangya appeared and told her that she only had one life left. Li Canglang came to find Shen Xiuning and, seeing Jiang Li about to slit her throat, thought that Shen Xiuning had bullied her. Shen Xiuning couldn't be bothered to explain.
Shen Xiuning knew that Li Canglang had a close relationship with the local intelligence station, so he decided to go there to inquire about Fang Lian's situation. The three of them arrived at the intelligence station, and the girl named Wanwan at the station told them that Fang Lian and Mr. Jiang were childhood sweethearts, but Madam Jiang had forcefully separated them out of jealousy. When Jiang Li started her mission, she had seen Madam Jiang before her death and noticed the fear in her eyes. Madam Jiang even said, "So you're not dead yet."
Jiang Li informed Shen Xiuning about this, and he suspected that the "you" Madam Jiang mentioned was likely Fang Lian. They then found Fang Lian's tomb and, during the exhumation, discovered that Fang Lian's coffin was empty. After this discovery, they were attacked by a masked person. Fortunately, they worked together seamlessly and managed to defeat the masked person, who fled afterward.
Returning to the city, they coincidentally encountered Fang Gongzi, Fang Runsheng. Shen Xiuning noticed that Fang Runsheng had injuries on his hands and mud from the graveyard on his shoes, leading him to suspect that Fang Runsheng was the masked person.
