Episode 12 recap: Little Bao lures the snake out of its hole, old friends turn against each other.
The fire at the Lu family residence startled Little Bao from his sleep. He quickly woke up the drunken Lu Bu You and dragged him towards the exit. Zhao Ju Ren accused Lu Zhi, that cunning servant, of forging a will to seize the inheritance. Seeing through Lu Zhi's scheme, Zhao Ju Ren wanted to capture him and report him to the authorities. Lu Zhi was taken to the government office, where Cold Wu Ji stood by watching as Lu Zhi was punished with beatings.
Lu Bu You told Little Bao that he couldn't find Lu Zhi and suspected he was in the steward's room. So he climbed a tree and sneaked into his courtyard, where he discovered a dry well. This piqued Little Bao's curiosity. Lu Bu You entered the well and found a secret chamber. Finally, he climbed out of the well using the tree. They agreed to sneak into the well again that night.
Later that night, Little Bao went to quench his thirst and found that the water cup inside the house and the water jar in the courtyard were both empty, coincidentally missing the shopkeeper who went to silence someone. Chen Wang watched the unconscious Lu Bu You but couldn't bring himself to kill him, so he left. Shortly after, Little Bao came in and fell asleep on the table. Suddenly, a fire broke out, and Little Bao was awakened by the smoke. He carried Lu Bu You and they fled. The whole place was engulfed in flames. Lu Bu You and Little Bao rushed towards the dry well but decided to rescue their parents and sister. Little Bao hurried to the stable to get a rope before entering the well.
Lu Zhi and Lu Zhong returned to the Lu family residence, and Lu Zhi mentioned that he forgot something and stabbed Lu Zhong with a knife when he wasn't paying attention. Lu Zhi realized that Lu Yuan Bao didn't intend to kill him, but Lu Zhong lied. Lu Zhong wanted to claim Lu Zhi as his son.
Lu Bu You witnessed everything, and Lu Zhi also noticed someone about to kill him but was intercepted by a falling ember. He had to leave. Qu San Geng's father saw the fire and banged on a drum while watching Lu Zhi and the others observing the fire. He realized their intentions to escape and was fatally stabbed by Cold Wu Ji.
Afterward, Cold Wu Ji discovered that the corpse didn't match Lu Bu You's, but it had been burned beyond recognition. After the fire at the Lu family residence, Lu Zhi showed the forged shares of the inheritance to Zhao Ju Ren, who didn't believe in the will. Zhao Ju Ren wanted to take Lu Zhong directly to the government office, and Lu Zhi had already anticipated that Cold Wu Ji would beat him there and had arranged it with his henchmen.
This time, Lu Zhi sought justice for Lu Yuan Bao and accused Lu Jin Xin of seizing the family's assets and silencing him. The county magistrate didn't believe it since Lu Yuan Bao had been dead for six months, but Lu Zhi insisted on his innocence and admitted that Zhao Ju Ren was his witness. It turned out that when he sought out Zhao Ju Ren, Lu Zhi not only showed him the will but also bribed him and even produced the IOU signed by Zhao Ju Ren years ago.
To avoid repaying his debts, Zhao Ju Ren agreed to cooperate with Lu Zhi and give false testimony in court, accusing Lu Jin Xin of fratricide and seizing the inheritance. Cold Wu Ji proposed to open the coffin and examine the body, revealing that Lu Yuan Bao died from poisoning, proving that he was murdered. Zhao Ju Ren returned to the government office again, holding the pawned items from Lu Yuan Bao's life. No one knew what was inside except for two tael of silver. Cold Wu Ji inspected the sealing date and found no issues. The county magistrate read the forged will found inside, although the handwriting was weak, it undoubtedly matched Lu Zhi's. Cold Wu Ji, Zhao Ju Ren, and Lu Zhi all agreed and the case was closed, as the Lu family's assets were divided among them.
Afterward, Lu Zhi discussed with the others about leaving and changing their identities, but Chen Wang, who couldn't bear to leave his mother, and considering his gambling habits, Lu Zhi plotted to kill him. The next day, the intoxicated Chen Wang died from drowning. Xue Ju Ren discovered that Wei Zhi Xian was Lu Bu You, and Niu Bu Yan and Liu Shi Qi discussed assassinating Wei Zhi Xian but first killed Lv San, the troublemaker.
Qu San Geng suspected that the killer would target Niu Bu Yan, so he led twenty men to ambush around the Xue family's surroundings, lying in wait for the opportunity.
On the other side, Qu San Geng intentionally reported to Niu Bu Yan that the constables had left the city to chase after Xue Ju Ren, while Liu Shi Qi, hiding behind the screen in Wei Zhi Xian's house, listened carefully. At this moment, Lv San was tracking Xue Ju Ren and had run about sixty to seventy miles outside the city.
Qu San Geng and Shi Cong disguised themselves as night watchmen patrolling the streets, while Wei Zhi Xian went to find Song Dian Shi to discuss the injustice. Song Dian Shi had been imprisoned for bribery in the past and had betrayed his good friend to save himself from the punishment. His friend had no choice but to die in order to prove his innocence. This was the greatest injustice suffered by Song Dian Shi. Now, he worked as a court official to atone for his sins.
Lv San came to stay at the inn, and the bearded man eating by the roadside noticed him and immediately turned away to avoid Lv San's gaze. Meanwhile, Wei Zhi Xian finished writing the case file, recounting the case of the Land House fire from years ago. Cheng Yi Zhi, fearing that he would be next after the deaths of Cold Wu Ji and Master Wang, turned himself in. He had thought that Cheng Yi Zhi had gone mad and sent him away, but three days later, he was unexpectedly killed.
In reality, Cheng Yi Zhi was killed by the bearded man that night. At this moment, Wei Zhi Xian fabricated testimonies from Zhao You Ren and others. Song Dian Shi became more suspicious as he thought about it, so he called Qu San Geng aside. Song Dian Shi drew a portrait and asked the owner of the millstone to identify it. The owner recognized the person as the one who purchased the millstone, and that person was Wei Zhi Xian. Now Wei Zhi Xian knew that Xue Ju Ren had deliberately led Lv San away from the mountain, and he planned to use Liu Shi Qi to assassinate himself. This way, the fabricated testimonies he made would be put to good use. At this moment, Wei Zhi Xian also left a suicide note, stating that if he were to be killed, it would be the work of Xue Ju Ren, who could come and go freely. He was willing to sacrifice himself to clear the grievances of others.
Qu San Geng was captured by Song Dian Shi. It turned out that Song Dian Shi had long known that Wei Zhi Xian was Lu Bu You and the murderer. He also suspected that Xue Ju Ren and Lu Bu You were working together because Qu San Geng wanted to avenge Cold Wu Ji.
Song Dian Shi took Wei Zhi Xian away, and then a black-clad stranger quietly sneaked into the room. The person who came was not Liu Shi Qi but a unfamiliar green-forest bandit. While everyone was restraining this bandit in the courtyard for interrogation, Liu Shi Qi, who was hiding on the roof, shot and killed everyone, including Song Dian Shi. Wei Zhi Xian and Liu Shi Qi shot each other with their guns, resulting in Liu Shi Qi's death and Wei Zhi Xian being severely injured.
Qu San Geng had originally intended to use Xue Ju Ren's hand to kill Wei Zhi Xian and avenge his master, but unexpectedly, Liu Shi Qi killed Song Dian Shi and his brothers. He blamed himself for letting everyone down. Wei Zhi Xian and Xue Ju Ren were deadlocked on both sides, both being murderers. Qu San Geng didn't know how to choose, but he came up with a plan. He pretended to take Niu Bu Yan out of the city under the pretense of official business and tricked him into going to the yamen. Niu Bu Yan wanted to save his own life, so Wei Zhi Xian asked him to testify and clarify the truth about the fire twenty years ago. However, Niu Bu Yan distorted the facts and made up a story in his own favor. Wei Zhi Xian agreed to spare his life until the case was closed, but afterwards, it would depend on Niu Bu Yan's fate.
Qu San Geng obtained a deposition from County Magistrate Wei and carried the fire ticket from the Nie Tai to arrest Xue Qi. His official position had already been stripped.
After a twenty-year separation, Lu Bu You finally realized that the charred corpse in the courtyard was Lu Bu You himself, and the present County Magistrate Wei was actually Xiao Bao. It was Lu Bu You who had saved Xiao Bao when he almost got burned. That night, Xiao Bao hid in a dry well and narrowly escaped death. The next day, he accidentally overheard a conversation between Lu Zhi and Leng Wu Ji, where they mentioned that Lu Bu You must die.
After that, Xiao Bao survived for several months by hiding in the dry well. He accidentally discovered gold and left. A year later, Xiao Bao returned to the dry well and took away all the gold. Based on the records left by Lu Zhong before his death, he learned the whole truth and vowed to clear the Lu family's name.
Wei County Magistrate and Xue Qi were curious about the incidents involving Cheng Yi Zhi and Master Wang, and Wei County Magistrate whispered something to Xue Qi, causing them both to burst into laughter. Then, Xue Qi stabbed Wei County Magistrate and committed suicide. Qu San Geng hurriedly embraced Wei County Magistrate, repeatedly murmuring about butter-soaked snails. Butter-soaked snails were the first snack that Lu Zhi had brought for Xiao Bao.
After the deaths of the two men, You Er was killed once again.
Qu San Geng is so funny, always talking about his master's sense of justice. But his master is a corrupt cop colluding with criminals, and he's even the one who killed his father. What's wrong with the county magistrate killing a villain?
I've never seen such a foolish male lead. As a constable, he doesn't even understand what real justice is. He's just like his master, colluding with criminals. He's becoming a corrupt cop himself.
Moreover, one or two of them grew up looking completely different. Who wouldn't recognize them because they look so different from their childhood?
This drama should be called "Revenge: You Change Your Face, I'll Change Mine Too.
From a god's perspective, evaluating the male protagonist, you are capable enough. If you were the male lead, would you make better choices than him?
He was clouded by hatred in the middle, but in the end, he made the right choice. In this drama, there is no absolute good or absolute evil.
Can we abandon the simplistic and stereotypical portrayal of characters that is often seen in TV dramas, where everything is black and white?
After watching it, I felt a mix of emotions. I didn't expect so many people to die, and the one driving it all was Xiaobao. Throughout the story, most characters couldn't escape the temptation of greed, whether it was for fame, lineage, or wealth.
They also couldn't escape the label of wickedness. It made me think that if one's heart is not filled with reverence, they truly won't fear ghosts or gods.
But Xiaobao made me ponder.
A little turtle who, after surviving a big fire, unexpectedly discovers wealth and thinks, "Since you 'gave it' to me, I will 'return it' to you." This reason may not hold up to scrutiny for onlookers, yet it is precisely because of this reason that the "unjust" finds its "cause." Some say that delayed justice is not true justice.
At first thought, this reasoning seems valid. However, justice that cannot be reached is no justice at all. From this perspective, delay doesn't matter much.
Those who understand will naturally understand Xiaobao's persistence.
As for Lu Zhi, he only developed murderous intent after hearing about the lifetime of service to the Lu family. But before he arrived at the Lu family, he was just a beggar. In that era, for a servant boy to become a master or young master was already a great opportunity.
He often proclaimed his gratitude.
However, he wasn't satisfied with that. He deeply understood the concept of "saying one thing and doing another." They all sacrificed actions or paid a price for their own convictions.
The character Qu San Geng is a bit problematic. He is the most annoying character in this drama. He has no abilities and can't figure anything out, even when the clues are handed to him.
He is morally ambiguous.
His own master helped Lu Zhi destroy someone's life, yet he has the audacity to seek revenge. It's absolutely disgusting.
He is the most detestable character I've ever seen in a suspense drama. He keeps demanding justice, but he doesn't even know how his own father died.
Let's talk about some people in the comments who criticize and judge from a godlike perspective. Can you please tell me which stocks will rise next month? Look at how arrogant they are. He's just an ordinary person. He was blinded by revenge and was finally awakened by Song.
He didn't know that his father was killed by his master. Would Xue Qi tell him that his master also killed a night watchman back then? Who would mention such a trivial role in their eyes? Qu San Geng, considering everything that happened before and after, would definitely have some suspicions.
But being deeply involved in it, he hasn't found substantial evidence to prove the killings. Aren't we ordinary people also blinded by being involved in things without having all the facts? Who has such a cheat code-filled life?
He doesn't have any "golden finger" abilities, yet he effortlessly manipulates the Wu Hou Mansion and Yi Tou. During his confrontation with Song Dian Shi, he shows great intelligence by recognizing their attempts to test him.
However, upon learning about the massive conspiracy involving Lu Zhi and his master's group, his mother suddenly mentions that his father had no connection with his master before his death but now shows concern.
He never doubted his master, nor did he show any sympathy for his mother, who raised him as a widow and even lost her eyesight. Even after discovering that his master was involved in the ruthless massacre at the Lu Mansion, he still stands by his master's side and joins forces with Lu Zhi.
He lacks any understanding of justice and his true intentions.
Just to add, it's likely that Xue Ju Ren has forgotten that there was a passing watchman twenty years ago who also died in that massive fire conspiracy. After all, back then, even Lu Zhi said that tonight, not only him, but other good people would also perish.
If this Qu San Geng doesn't die, I think this is just a disgusting drama. It's no different from those love triangles you see everywhere. Instead of seeking justice, they're focused on revenge.
In reality, he and his master are cut from the same cloth. It completely distorts his original character setup.
A character like Xiao Bao Zi demonstrates gratitude and righteousness. He doesn't kill good people indiscriminately, nor does he kill out of personal grudges. Every killing he carries out, directly or indirectly, involves careful verification and planning.
He truly upholds justice.
In order to repay a debt of gratitude, he doesn't selfishly keep all the gold for himself. Instead, he uses it to pursue academic achievements and remains a solitary figure.
He seeks revenge against this group of villains, even though he is just an ordinary person. Yet, he embodies the true spirit of a hero.
On the other hand, Qu San Geng appears to be righteous and virtuous, but in the end, he becomes just like his master, a hypocrite.
His master engages in extramarital affairs, fabricates false cases, and kills the protagonist's father, which is an unforgivable crime. However, in public, he presents himself as a moral role model.
Meanwhile, the protagonist uses these villains for "revenge" and ends up causing the deaths of good people one after another. In the end, the villains succeed, and the protagonist inevitably becomes entangled in a web of corruption and bribery, gradually sinking deeper.
He even helps the villains avenge their own fathers, which is truly pitiful and laughable.
Failing to understand the greater principles while being indebted to others will eventually turn one into another hypocrite like the master.
The stark contrast between Xiao Bao Zi's righteousness and the protagonist's small-mindedness is the essence of this drama.
The true protagonist of this drama is actually Xiao Bao Zi. It's a pity that such an upright official, such a hero, meets such a fate.
He even passes judgment on himself, sparing no evil person
Two orphans with equally turbulent destinies, one turning dark and the other becoming a righteous county official to repay a debt. There is a clear distinction between inherent human evil and inherent human goodness. Those driven by their dark nature inevitably come into contact with the shadows of others, just like Lu Zhi, who always feels guilty about people's dark side.
On the other hand, although Bao'er has a lower status than Lu Zhi, he cherishes the good in others in his heart. In the end, both of them die, but their significance differs greatly: Lu Zhi's death signifies the consequences of his actions, whereas Bao'er's death represents his pursuit of gratitude and justice.
It's so obvious that Lu Bu You is the most reasonable match for Zhi Xian. And the idea of a mute person writing a diary is just ridiculous. Writing down your criminal activities?
That's hilarious. And how could Lu Sangeng not know that his master was the one who killed his father? It's beyond belief.
In my opinion, Lu Bu You should be Zhi Xian. He could have gone to school when he was young, then made some money from the well and disappeared to come back later as Zhi Xian for revenge.
As for Song Dianshi, he feels guilty for his friend's death and sacrifices himself for Zhi Xian. Plus, he's a fifth-rank official, which would draw more attention. After his death, the court would send someone to uncover the truth.
Is the person on the horse Chen Wang? It looks a bit like him, but maybe I've mistaken who killed Chu Zi. Is it Lu Zhi or Zhi Xian? And what's the deal with the fortune-teller?
Lu Zhi has never been a good person from beginning to end. People say he's pitiful, being used by Grandpa Lu and Chen Zhong. But that underestimates him. Look at all the things he says, why does he like to act clever?
It's because he only sees his own interests. He analyzes his relationships with others based solely on benefits. That's why he couldn't imagine that County Magistrate would sacrifice himself, refuse money, and repay kindness.
When others were using him, he was also constantly using others. Deep down, he was always prepared to kill and betray. He was no different from those people who deserved death. In this drama, none of the people killed by the real culprit, County Magistrate, were innocent.
Lu Lao Ye is responsible for more than just one life, and there are others who have long been engaged in criminal activities, like doctors addicted to theft. These people deserve to die.
Their crimes are known to no one.
They are all guilty of plotting for wealth and causing deaths, and they have harmed more than one person. Before County Magistrate killed them, he thoroughly investigated their crimes, and it can be seen from the way he dealt with Fourth Sister, who had no other faults related to Lu Lao Ye's murder case, that County Magistrate was not only avenging Lu Lao Ye, nor was it simply repaying a debt.
He was truly carrying out justice after uncovering the truth, killing only those who deserved it.
I think most people already know about it. Just like back then when the master did all sorts of immoral things for Lin Niang, it's not surprising that one would manipulate events for the sake of being with their junior martial sister, even if it means acting solely in their own interest.
The male lead strategizes and succeeds in eliminating everyone connected to the fire at the Lu Family from years ago, avenging his father's death.
By not investigating who was responsible for his father's death, he can marry his junior martial sister.
The male lead is capable of setting up schemes, as seen in the earlier episodes.
Song Dian Shi's involvement in the imperial examination case has made his life unbearable.
By dying for justice, Song can find liberation. It seems like this is also something the male lead wants to achieve.
Human nature is complex, and there's no simple satisfaction in seeking revenge.
These are just my personal thoughts.
How could the male lead have the audacity to say that his debt to his master has been repaid? He directly or indirectly caused the deaths of so many people, didn't hesitate to personally kill the male lead's father with a single stroke, and helped Lu Zhi and others cause the deaths of dozens of innocent lives.
What did the male lead do to repay his debt?
Where does he get the nerve to speak to the county magistrate like that? The county magistrate didn't have a strong presence in the beginning, but later we realized that he was the true hero.
The conversation between Song Dianshi and the county magistrate before Song's death brought tears to my eyes. Such a talented actor.
Xia Bu Tou came in and made quite a scene. So many people lying flat on the ground, getting beaten and spanked, right in broad daylight. It's actually quite a sight to see.
San Geng got beaten the hardest, all because Xia Bu Tou thought he was too inefficient in handling the case.
After all these sacrifices made by his own master, they still couldn't find any solid evidence.
When Xia Bu Tou found out that San Geng had even disbanded the local informants, he got even more furious. Wasn't this just placing obstacles in his path?
It seems Xia Bu Tou has a bone to pick with San Geng.
Fortunately, our Song Dian Shi hasn't betrayed us. He's still tied to San Geng. When Xia Bu Tou stormed in, full of anger, Song Dian Shi calmly handed him a tooth.
As for those captured by San Geng, all they said was that the case was too big and couldn't be handled here.
It's been passed on to higher authorities.
San Geng and Song Dian Shi have set a good example with their groundbreaking approach to transcending worldly matters. Among all the constables and heads, their methods over the years have been quite unique.
They truly strive for absolute peace through extreme measures.
Now that their master is gone, it's fortunate that San Geng still has Song Dian Shi. Although most of the time Song Dian Shi seems a bit eccentric, as long as he is willing to protect San Geng, there's still room for negotiation.
After all, the truth they will face is not easily shaken.
Justice is always one-sided. What truly constitutes justice? Whose perspective is considered just? Lu Yuan Bao gained wealth through murder and looting, then washed his hands clean and transformed himself.
His crimes were heinous, and his younger brother's family enjoyed a life of luxury funded by his blood-soaked money. They may be innocent victims of undeserved calamity, but it's also a karmic retribution.
Lu Zhi ended up in such a state because of the Lu family, stripping him of dignity and freedom. Lu Yuan Bao is heartless and ruthless. Qu San Geng sought revenge for his master, without even realizing his master was his own father's killer.
Xiao Bao Zi massacred people in order to avenge Lu Bu You. How is his approach any different from Lu Zhi's?
It's truly a pity, especially when it comes to Song Dian Shi.
San Geng's junior sister is formidable. After being personally guided by her own father for so many years, she truly keeps her abilities hidden. Whenever San Geng encounters a difficult problem, she can recall her father's past teachings and identify the crux of the issue.
Xia Bu Tou is making things difficult for San Geng. It's not that he's denying him cases, but rather he assigns him the most challenging one, the case of his own master's death, and gives him the same five-day deadline as other cases.
This is one of the most complicated cases. Even with the collaboration between San Geng and Song Dian Shi for so long, they haven't made much progress. Can they really solve it within just five days?
The beatings on San Geng's buttocks are personally taken care of by Xia Tou, so the extent of his injuries is relatively greater.
His junior sister said that Leng Tou once mentioned that everyone has weaknesses. Usually, they are very cautious about their shortcomings and try to conceal them, leaving no trace for others to find evidence.
Therefore, it is often their strengths and advantages that are overlooked.
This is where San Geng can start, focusing on Xia Bu Tou's blind spot.
If San Geng wants to successfully investigate the case, he must first understand this Xia Bu Tou. Otherwise, this guy will always look down on him. Not to mention the fact that he gets a spanking every few days.
If San Geng can't even get out of bed, he won't be able to make any breakthroughs in the case within the limited time.
In the plot, there have been numerous hints that Xiao Bao Zi is someone who repays kindness and seeks revenge. It is only him who, even after acquiring great wealth, still strives to study and change his identity to become the County Magistrate, all for the sake of avenging his benefactor.
In his eyes, things are either white or black, and if someone has killed, they should receive retribution.
On the other hand, Lu Zhi is different. He has grown accustomed to the gray areas and is no longer the young man he once was.
Aside from the protagonist's father, the County Magistrate is actually the purest secondary character in the drama, always dedicated to justice and the will of the people. He pays the price and does not spare himself.
Though he may seem insignificant, he is truly a hero. Despite appearing foolish, he is steadfast in his actions, determined in his character, and though he may seem incompetent, he governs the county with order, ensuring the people's well-being.
It's a pity that, in order to repay his debt, he sacrificed himself and concealed his own talent to cover up the truth.
In fact, he has always been the smartest, kindest, and most resolute person in the entire drama.
He upholds justice and is not afraid of power or evil. The culprits he killed in this drama were all deserving of death. They were responsible for more than just Mr. Lu's life, and some had been engaged in long-term criminal activities, such as doctors addicted to theft.
These people deserved to die.
Their crimes were unknown to anyone. They all had a share in plotting for wealth and causing harm to others. The County Magistrate thoroughly investigated their crimes before taking action, and it can be seen from the way he dealt with Fourth Sister, who had no other connection to Mr.
Lu's murder case, that the County Magistrate was not only seeking revenge for Mr. Lu, nor was it simply repaying a debt. He was truly carrying out justice after uncovering the truth, killing only those who deserved it.
The drama was going well until the ending, which felt abrupt. The resolution of the suspense was completely predictable, and since there weren't many characters involved, I guessed the County Magistrate's identity from the early episodes without any spoilers.
However, Lu Zhi's sudden turn to become the one who killed Zhongye was jarring. His entire character changed, and it was clear that Lu Zhi trusted Zhongye the most. This should have been well-established, even if there was a need for his character to turn dark.
It's important to ensure that the audience can empathize with the antagonist by providing sufficient groundwork.
The character of Xiao Bao Zi, a lower-class individual with a good heart who has experienced the various evils of society, being portrayed as a hollow tool willing to go to extreme lengths for revenge on behalf of Young Master Lu, feels unrealistic and inconsistent.
The essence of a captivating suspense story lies in the imbalance of information, where the side of justice, though constrained by rules, exhausts their intelligence to obtain justice through legal means. Perhaps this aligns with the values of the majority.
There were several flaws in the script, but the costume design and acting were excellent, making it a case of starting strong and ending weak, which is a bit regrettable.
Let's talk about how we can't understand why the culprit turned out to be Xiao Bao Zi. Can it be believed that when your savior dies in front of you and you learn the whole truth, the only thing you do is burn more paper money for him on the annual memorial day?
Maybe some people would do that, but not Xiao Bao. He has his stubborn and persistent principles. Otherwise, why would he willingly provoke someone with a bad temper, even if it means getting beaten? In his eyes, good people shouldn't be bullied.
Before, he was like a little turtle with no ability to protect himself. But by chance, he obtained a large amount of gold, whether it was in gratitude for saving his life or for the favor of receiving gold. He now has the leverage to confront the bad guys.
Yes, maybe he's not that clever. It took him twenty years to come up with the idea of a mutual destruction plan, without carrying the deep hatred that Lu Bu You had. He didn't have to go to such lengths, but that's just who he is.
The foreshadowing for the future of Xiao Bao Zi and Lu Zhi was already laid out in the fourth episode during the scene by the riverbank. Xiao Bao Zi mentioned stealing Red Jade's snacks and being mistreated by Red Jade with a needle.
Lu Zhi said, "Shouldn't you steal from someone with a good temperament?" That way, even if they find out, they won't do anything to you. Xiao Bao Zi responded, "Should someone with a good temperament be stolen from?
Doesn't that go against the principles of this world?" Lu Zhi replied, "Isn't this world already upside down? Can you change it?" Xiao Bao Zi said, "I might not be able to change it, but in my eyes, someone with a good temperament should not be stolen from." In just a few lines, their starkly different natures were revealed.
I feel that Zhongshu treated Lu Zhi like a son, but Lu Zhi ended up killing him. Lord Lu saw no fatherly figure in Lu Zhi, yet Lu Zhi always wanted to acknowledge him as his father.
The historian is the most frustrating character. The child prodigy had the potential for great achievements, but due to the dark side of the officialdom, he ended up disabled, not even knowing whom to seek for revenge and justice, carrying bitterness throughout his life.
His feelings towards Chun Xing reveal his strong sense of loyalty and justice. Although his official position was not high, he did his best to protect his subordinates, even the insignificant ones.
His death was a relief for himself, but it would have been so much better if he had not died.
When a constable causes someone's death and all he does is cry, what's the use of that? The more I watch, the angrier I get. The male lead was alright in the beginning, but when he caused the death of the prison warden, I was furious.
If he had just refrained from being so sentimental, the warden wouldn't have died. Instead, he insisted on following his own speculations. His master even stabbed his own father to death. He's truly impressive, truly arrogant.
It's amazing how he recognizes his father's killer, the person closest to him. It infuriates me. Even though it's a TV drama, the storyline makes me furious, and it takes a long time to calm down.
It's understandable that Lu Zhi killed Mr. Lu, after all, Mr. Lu was also a bad person. But it's absolutely unjustifiable for him to kill his brother's family, innocent servants, and Qu San Geng's father (especially considering that Lu Bu You was his friend and such a good person).
He shouldn't have wrongly accused Lu Bu You's brother of killing him and even framed him after death. It's truly malicious.
I feel that the ending shouldn't have had Song Dian Shi and the county magistrate die.
They were rare individuals in that era who still had a conscience.
