Episode 29 recap: Hu Nan Zhao goes missing.
The prince falls ill, and Hu Nan Zhao comes to feed him medicine. Luo Qing Lian discovers that Hu Nan Zhao is missing and becomes extremely worried. When she comes to the prince's place, she learns that Hu Nan Zhao had come to see the prince, which relieves her. The prince feels that the medicine hasn't had any effect despite consuming so much, and he doesn't want to take it anymore. Hu Nan Zhao assures the prince that he will be fine as long as he takes the medicine.
The prince contemplates the inevitability of death and asks Hu Nan Zhao what he would do if he were to die. Hu Nan Zhao says he hasn't thought about such things and only hopes for the prince's well-being. The prince is pleased with his response and asks Hu Nan Zhao to take the medicine on his behalf. The prince calls Luo Qing Lian over and mentions that he has been sick for a long time, asking if she has any plans.
Luo Qing Lian says she has no plans and only wishes for the prince's good health and longevity. The prince remarks that despite having many descendants, how many of them truly wish for his well-being and longevity. He expresses his trust in Luo Qing Lian, mentioning that during this time, she has done nothing but recite scriptures.
Hu Nan Zhao goes to the other side to pay respects when a woman, who is injured, approaches and informs him about the presence of assassins. The guards rush to investigate, and the woman takes out a knife and stabs Hu Nan Zhao. Gu Da Ren comes with his men to find Lady Si, intending to bring her to see the prince. Lady Si believes she hasn't done anything wrong, and the prince shouldn't do anything to her.
The maidservant opens a sack and realizes that the person inside is not Hu Nan Zhao at all. It turns out that Gu Da Ren had previously informed the prince that someone would harm Hu Nan Zhao. So, they staged a play, and someone disguised as Hu Nan Zhao was brought by Lady Si. Hu Nan Zhao is missing, and Luo Qing Lian becomes extremely anxious upon seeing the blood in this area.
Hu Nan Zhao appears, and Luo Qing Lian embraces him and bursts into tears. Hu Nan Zhao assures her that he is fine and asks her to stop crying. Lady Si is brought to the prince's place, and the prince expresses his disbelief that he could have been wrong and that there is solid evidence against her.
Lady Si suggests that if the prince believes there is enough evidence to kill her, then he should go ahead and do so. She explains that the reason the prince hasn't chosen ansuccessor is not because his sons are unworthy, but because he believes no one is better than him. The previous crown prince was treated the same way, constantly suppressed and unable to make progress, and the same would happen to Hu Nan Zhao in the future.
Lady Si questions if the prince has ever considered the consequences if his plan today actually caused harm to Hu Nan Zhao. The fourth prince quickly pleads for mercy and claims that Lady Si is speaking nonsense. The prince orders Lady Si to be taken away. When Lady Si comes out, she tells the fourth prince that as long as Hu Nan Zhao dies, they still have hope and she will only be imprisoned for a while.
Hu Nan Zhao is brought here and instructed to stay put and not wander around. He is taken away by Lv Bei Yi, and Hu Nan Zhao is surprised to see him. He asks if Lv Bei Yi is a close friend of his parents and has come to rescue him. Lv Bei Yi confirms that he indeed knows his parents but clarifies that he is here to kill him.
He Lian Xin returns upon hearing about Hu Nan Zhao's disappearance but is intercepted by the fifth prince. He Lian Xin asks if the fifth prince truly wants to become his mortal enemy, and the fifth prince explains that he doesn't want to be enemies with anyone and that he is only friends with one person. The prince calls Luo Qing Lian over and acknowledges that he has made a mistake and caused Hu Nan Zhao to disappear. Luo Qing Lian assures him that Hu Nan Zhao is a descendant of the He family and will be fine.
