Episode 4 recap: Luo Qing Lian becomes a concubine to He Lian Xin.
The Prince agrees but states that Luo Qing Lian has angered the public and cannot become a proper wife. She can only be a concubine. He instructs He Lian Xin to treat Luo Qing Lian as a concubine but not as a servant herself. He Lian Xin agrees.He Lian Xin goes to find Lv Bei Yi, who is still drowning his sorrows at the entrance of his former house. He Lian Xin asks Lv Bei Yi why he is still here, burdening his family, instead of choosing death. Lv Bei Yi feels he cannot die yet because he still needs to find a way to redeem himself.
Lv Bei Yi believes that his lowly status was bestowed upon him by the Prince and cannot be changed by anyone. He Lian Xin claims that she can change it. Lv Bei Yi realizes that He Lian Xin wants to use him to control Luo Qing Lian. Luo Qing Lian is bound and carried in a sedan chair into He Lian Xin's residence, where Lady Yao and others are waiting. Luo Qing Lian removes the veil covering her face, and Lady Yao criticizes her for her lack of manners, suggesting that she should be punished and receive twenty lashes.
The legitimate wife also arrives and thinks that they are all sisters, suggesting that Luo Qing Lian should understand on her own. Lady Yao believes that Luo Qing Lian still has issues and even if He Lian Xin wants her to be a concubine, they should advise and guide him. Other concubines also speak to her, urging her to think carefully and try to persuade He Lian Xin. Unexpectedly, the Prince sends someone to deliver a message, instructing Luo Qing Lian to become a concubine to He Lian Xin. This way, Lady Yao and the others dare not object. He Lian Xin returns to meet Luo Qing Lian, who naturally refuses to marry him. He Lian Xin asks Luo Qing Lian to accompany him to see someone before making a decision.
Lv Bei Yi is now at He Lian Xin's place, where one person is making He Lian Xin do chores and pick up dirty things with her hands. Luo Qing Lian becomes angry and quickly intervenes. Lv Bei Yi doesn't say anything to Luo Qing Lian. He Lian Xin stops Luo Qing Lian and states that she should follow his arrangements. If Luo Qing Lian disagrees, she will wake up to Lv Bei Yi's corpse the next day.
The Crown Prince comes to find the Fourth Prince and discusses the matter of bestowing titles. The Fourth Prince reveals that the bestowed title is not for himself but for He Lian Xin. The Crown Prince is shocked as he is completely unprepared for it.
The attendant says that there is still time to prepare. He has a fellow villager working as a maid in He Lian Xin's residence, and her life is very difficult. The Crown Prince tells him to hurry and take care of it.
Luo Qing Lian comes to pay respects to the legitimate wife, and Dong Li also arrives at the residence. Dong Li says that He Lian Xin wants them to prepare a maid for Luo Qing Lian in their residence, so the master sent him over. Luo Qing Lian asks Dong Li to help her prepare some things.
Luo Qing Lian meets with the legitimate wife and agrees with what she said, accepting her situation. The legitimate wife remarks that Luo Qing Lian seems much more obedient now. Lady Yao arrives late and mentions that she found Rongqiu dead. Hui'er also comes and informs the legitimate wife about Rongqiu's death, urging her to find the culprit.
Lady Yao says that she saw Luo Qing Lian and Rongqiu together. Luo Qing Lian explains that she is afraid of cats and accidentally pushed Rongqiu, causing her death. The legitimate wife doesn't blame Luo Qing Lian and thinks that her honesty is much better than those who are deceitful.
Luo Qing Lian goes to find Rong Buqi and asks for some old clothes. She takes a piece of brocade that He Lian Xin rewarded her and offers it to Rong Buqi, but Rong Buqi refuses to accept it. Luo Qing Lian asks Dong Li to return the old clothes to Rong Buqi so as not to implicate her. Hui'er comes to Luo Qing Lian and claims to be the one who killed Rongqiu, demanding that Luo Qing Lian pay for Rongqiu's life.
Luo Qing Lian repeats what she told Hui'er before, stating that she is not afraid of cats and did not kill Rongqiu. Hui'er understands that it must have been Lady Yao and wants to go find her. Luo Qing Lian wants to follow, but Dong Li says they are already prepared, and if they don't leave now, it will be too late. Luo Qing Lian has no choice but to leave first.
