Episode 5 recap: Luo Qing Lian investigates the truth.

Hui'er argues with Lady Yao, and Lady Yao pushes Hui'er, accidentally causing her to hit the corner of a table and die. Lady Yao is extremely surprised and wants to go to He Lian Xin to confess. Ya Huan, a maid, remembers that someone from the Crown Prince's side came to find her earlier. She feels that she cannot implicate Lady Yao, and wonders if she should remain loyal to someone who treated her this way.

Ya Huan quickly stops Lady Yao and insists that she cannot admit to doing it herself. Since Luo Qing Lian is leaving anyway, they should blame the incident on her. Ya Huan puts Hui'er's body in a sack and delivers it to where Luo Qing Lian is staying. He Lian Xin captures the fleeing Luo Qing Lian and Lv Bei Yi. The legitimate wife holds Hui'er and bursts into tears, mourning the loss of their only son.

He Lian Xin believes that Luo Qing Lian is responsible and orders them to be submerged in the Wei Xi Pool. Luo Qing Lian says that she can be punished, but Hui'er should not be. She asks He Lian Xin for some time to find the real culprit and promises that if she fails, she will be buried with Hui'er.

He Lian Xin agrees to give her three days. He orders Lv Bei Yi to be imprisoned and deprived of water until they find the truth. The legitimate wife is heartbroken by Hui'er's death. Luo Qing Lian comes to see her, but the legitimate wife refuses to meet with her.

Luo Qing Lian kneels at the door and expresses her sympathy for Hui'er. She believes that Hui'er is pitiful, as she never received the love of her parents and lacked the ordinary happiness of a child. There was no one by her side who sincerely accompanied her. Luo Qing Lian asks the legitimate wife, as Hui'er's mother, if she really doesn't want to help find the true culprit.

The legitimate wife allows Luo Qing Lian to enter. Luo Qing Lian gains the right to interrogate the servants from the legitimate wife. She questions each of them, asking who their respective maids belong to. Ru Hua, a maid accompanying Lady Yao, is the last one to be questioned. However, Luo Qing Lian doesn't let Ru Hua leave immediately. Instead, she asks how Ru Hua described the situation to Lady Yao after seeing her leave that day.

Ru Hua says that Lan'er mentioned Luo Qing Lian's plan to escape, so Lady Yao ordered someone to capture Luo Qing Lian. But Luo Qing Lian still doesn't let Ru Hua leave. Lady Yao becomes very anxious, feeling that everyone else was just going through the motions, while Ru Hua has been there for two hours and something might go wrong.

Lady Yao comes to Luo Qing Lian and accuses Ru Hua of stealing her belongings, insisting on taking Ru Hua away for interrogation. Dong Li becomes extremely anxious, but Luo Qing Lian assures her that she has already obtained the information. If Lady Yao is not the real culprit, then why is she so impatient? He Lian Xin sees Luo Qing Lian and remarks that her innocent and calm demeanor almost made him believe in her innocence.

However, Luo Qing Lian ignores He Lian Xin. She approaches Rong, a servant, and asks if she saw anything that night. Rong claims she didn't see anything. Luo Qing Lian knows that Rong must have seen something but is unwilling to speak, so Luo Qing Lian doesn't press further.

Soon it's the day of Hui'er's funeral. Luo Qing Lian instructs Dong Li to hide beneath the coffin and pretend to be Hui'er speaking. Luo Qing Lian tells the legitimate wife that Lady Yao is the culprit, and the legitimate wife also notices that Lady Yao's behavior seems off. After returning, Luo Qing Lian tells the legitimate wife that if they claim Hui'er died in Luo Qing Lian's room, there would be too little blood in her room.

Luo Qing Lian summons Rong, and despite her reluctance, the legitimate wife threatens to punish her. Luo Qing Lian persuades Rong to speak up, emphasizing that it's not just her own life at stake now. The legitimate wife attempts to punish Luo Qing Lian, but Luo Qing Lian quickly intervenes and asks the legitimate wife to punish her instead.

Rong reveals that she saw someone carrying a sack into Luo Qing Lian's room that night, and it looked like a child. With this clue, Luo Qing Lian is confident that she can uncover the truth.
