Episode 2 recap: The noodle shop owner encounters a scam.
After Zheng Daqian returned, he was very angry and asked Captain Hao where he found such a naive person. Captain Hao explained that even he wasn't informed about the operation of the specialized team, so he genuinely had no idea. Captain Hao suggested that since Zheng Daqian didn't think highly of Zhong Yi, he should take Zhong Yi as his apprentice and teach him well.
Zheng Daqian handed a case file to Zhong Yi and told him to take a good look. Zhong Yi saw the person in the file, who was currently in prison. His younger brother came to visit him and expressed that he couldn't forget what happened, promising to greet Zheng Daqian properly. Yi Xiaofan tried calling Zheng Daqian but couldn't reach him, so she called Zhong Yi instead. Yi Xiaofan mentioned that she noticed the noodle shop owner received a suspicious phone call, likely a scam, but it couldn't be confirmed yet.
Zhong Yi and Yi Xiaofan hurried to the scene. The shop owner received a call claiming that her daughter had been kidnapped and demanded 500,000 yuan to be sent. Zheng Daqian quickly explained to the shop owner that this was a telecom scam, using information stolen from her phone through malicious website links to simulate her daughter's voice. Zhong Yi and his team sought assistance from technicians at the bureau and managed to locate the signal jammer's position.
The shop owner received pictures of her injured daughter and, worried that it might be real, disregarded Zheng Daqian's objections and insisted on going out to make the transfer.
I watched the first five episodes in one go, and I have to say that this drama has pleasantly surprised me. Despite each episode's short duration, it's evident from the first five episodes that the production of the entire series is of excellent quality.
The visual presentation is on par with high-quality, long-running dramas, making me wonder if the current market for short dramas can achieve such standards.
This high-quality short drama is truly a rare gem among the mass-produced ones.
Apart from the superior production value and visual quality, the plot of the first five episodes is tightly woven. The methods of fraud are portrayed in detail, and the police demonstrate remarkable competence, unlike the traditional slogan-based campaigns against fraud that prove ineffective.
The portrayal of the victims is also relatable and evokes empathy. Once again, I admire the conscientious production team. Furthermore, the overall storyline doesn't solely dwell on the gloomy atmosphere caused by the fraud.
The humorous subplot between Zhong Yi and Zheng Daqian, their mentor-student relationship filled with minor conflicts, adds a delightful touch to the drama. I'm eagerly looking forward to the further development of the plot and will continue to follow it.
