Episode 9 recap: Surprisingly, Mi Rou turned out to be the culprit behind the fire incident.
While Niu Geng was still reporting the incident of the tainted cooking oil to Yang Guo Liang, Qi Heng arrived. Yang Guo Liang inquired about Ding Li Li, and Qi Heng assured him that it wasn't a big problem and that they would handle it properly. Niu Geng's case involving the tainted cooking oil was indeed problematic because it passed the fourth-level inspection of national soybean oil. It's clear that someone must have assisted behind the scenes. Qi Heng recalled Guo Nian, who was also a journalist and had encountered similar situations in the past.

Mi Rou intentionally set off fireworks to draw Ding Li Li out, but unexpectedly, the fireworks ignited the cooking oil placed on the balcony. Mi Rou, driven by fear, lied in court, but now she realizes her mistake.
In the Ding Li Li case, one of the victims' wives lost her husband and the child in her womb. She is in a state of confusion and even scattered paper money on the bridge where her husband passed away. She is not the only one affected. Many victims of the car accident contemplate suicide. Qi Heng and Ma La Song happened to witness this scene while passing by, and they understood that they must handle this case properly; otherwise, the public would not accept it.
Ding Li Li, the lawyer, now wants to reconcile with the surviving family members in order to settle the matter peacefully. She intends to have them sign a letter of understanding and promises to compensate them with one million yuan for their mental distress. Currently, the economic company is about to be acquired by another rival company, and Ding Li Li's agent has decided to let it go and even terminated the contract with the lawyer. However, Ou Yang He insists on continuing the case, even if they don't receive any money. The management company has completely abandoned Ding Li Li.
Upon learning about this situation, Ding Li Li is astonished. Ou Yang He promises to defend her for free. This case resulted in six deaths and two injuries, which could potentially lead to the death penalty for Ding Li Li. Ou Yang He insists on continuing to fight the lawsuit to prove his competence.
During the second trial, Ou Yang He repeatedly emphasizes that Ding Li Li suffered severe mental damage, which led to the tragedy. The prosecutor continues to counter-argue. When it's Ding Li Li's turn to defend herself, she becomes extremely agitated and even expresses regret for not killing the two journalists who were following her. Ou Yang He suggests compensating each family member with 500,000 RMB, but at that moment, a woman from the audience suddenly stands up and announces that she will provide the compensation. She reveals herself as Ding Li Li's mother.
With Qi Heng's permission, Ding Li Li's mother speaks at the trial, stating that the apartment was purchased by Ding Li Li with the money she earned from writing songs. Ding Li Li's father also died in a car accident while chasing after his son. The other party didn't stop and just drove away. The mother put all the blame on her son and left the family a long time ago. She now offers to convert the apartment and car that her son bought for her into money to compensate all the victims. She also apologizes to each victim in the courtroom, begging for a chance for her son.
Ding Li Li is deeply moved by her mother's words, and he voluntarily confesses, believing that the law will make a fair judgment. The responsibility for determining Ding Li Li's guilt now rests with the court. Qi Heng asks Ma La Song for suggestions, as Ding Li Li's mother's appearance has indeed turned the situation around. However, Qi Heng reminds them to approach the matter with fairness and not to disregard justice due to emotions.
I don't really dislike Ding Li's character. Instead, it's this female journalist who is full of lies. She deserves harsh criticism. The lack of moral boundaries in filming is something that bothers everyone more.
Although Lawyer Ouyang defends the defendant, he presents better arguments than the prosecution and is more determined. It reminds me of a real-life case where those who defend the defendant are often more formidable.
I'm a bit curious, but since I don't understand it, I want to ask: Isn't the incident with the delivery person considered theft? Opening someone else's package and taking things from it, then claiming it's just borrowing and planning to pack it back later.
Isn't the helmet someone else's property? Was permission obtained? Can delivery personnel just open packages and take things freely? Regardless, the helmet doesn't belong to you, so isn't this stealing? Isn't stealing a form of theft?
The trial in the eighth episode seems a bit far-fetched. He was driving without a license, and he didn't even attend any driving training. Moreover, the accident caused such serious consequences. As an adult, he knew driving without a license was not allowed, yet he not only drove but also caused the deaths of six people and serious injuries to two others.
Isn't this endangering public safety by using dangerous methods?
