Episode 2 recap: Gu Xinghe investigates the evidence.

The magistrate orders someone to quickly detain Xiao Yuer, but Gu Xinghe arrives and expresses surprise at seeing the magistrate hastily jump to conclusions. Gu Xinghe asks if they have any evidence, and the constable mentions that someone saw Xiao Yuer meeting with Zhao Si. Gu Xinghe points out that it's not sufficient evidence and promises to investigate without charging any fees this time. Gu Xinghe meets Xiao Yuer and asks if she is willing to go with him.

Xiao Yuer says she is hungry, and Gu Xinghe agrees to buy her meat buns. Gu Xinghe takes Xiao Yuer out and they inspect the body together. Xiao Yuer finds the place particularly smelly, so Gu Xinghe gives her a handkerchief, saying that wearing it will prevent any odor. Xiao Yuer realizes that indeed there is no smell. Gu Xinghe asks Xiao Yuer for her name, and she says her name is Bao Rou Rou (Meat Bun).

Gu Xinghe examines the body and determines that it was likely poisoning. The constable finds pufferfish at Zhao Si's house and believes that he was poisoned by pufferfish. However, Xiao Yuer mentions that she has seen people poisoned by pufferfish before, and Zhao Si's symptoms were different. Gu Xinghe and Xiao Yuer return to Zhao Si's house and discover an acupuncture needle.

Gu Xinghe summons Physician Fan to question whether he killed the person. Physician Fan denies his involvement, explaining that he was indeed treating Zhao Si, but before he could administer the acupuncture, Zhao Si died. He insists that he had no connection to the death.
