Episode 7 recap: Gu Xinghe finds Yi Qifeng.

Gu Xinghe tells Lu Qing'er that Yi Qifeng is a commanding officer and urges her to release the person quickly. Lu Qing'er is surprised to learn that Yi Qifeng is indeed an official and promptly brings Gu Xinghe along. However, they discover that Yi Qifeng has suddenly disappeared, which astonishes Lu Qing'er, as Yi Qifeng was just there a moment ago. Bao Rourou detects the smell of firewood and Gu Xinghe suggests that it could be the scent of the woodshed, which would be normal in this context.

Gu Xinghe suspects that the person they encountered might not have been after Yi Qifeng but after himself. He believes that Yi Qifeng was implicated because of him. Wang Buliuhang investigates and finds the refined iron used by the assassin. Gu Xinghe remarks that this refined iron is only available from the Fifth Prince's side, but framing someone so blatantly seems too obvious.

Someone shoots an arrow with a note attached, instructing Gu Xinghe to go to the blacksmith's shop. Gu Xinghe then realizes why there was a smell of firewood—it was because of the blacksmithing. Bao Rourou and Gu Xinghe go there and find a group of black-clad individuals who have captured Yi Qifeng. They question Yi Qifeng about the existence of the mermaid people and tell him not to be stubborn. Suddenly, Gu Xinghe falls ill, and Bao Rourou exclaims in anger that they dared to harm Gu Xinghe. The assailants cannot withstand the commotion and quickly flee.

Lu Qing'er arrives and carries Gu Xinghe back. Gu Xinghe regains consciousness and urges Lu Qing'er to leave immediately.
