Episode 28 recap: Su Wei An and Gu Yun Zheng had a conflict over their research project.
Upon learning that Gu Yun Zheng had changed the direction of his research, Fang Ming Fan wanted to follow him. However, Gu Yun Zheng insisted that Fang Ming Fan should stay and assured him that he could do well even without Gu Yun Zheng. Later, Gu Yun Zheng's father questioned him about the change in research direction. However, Gu Yun Zheng did not mention Su Wei An as the reason and simply stated that he wanted to overcome a challenging problem. His father advised him to carefully consider his decision since it was not Gu Yun Zheng's strong suit.
Su Wei An sought out Professor Wen, who was retiring. Professor Wen handed over all his research materials to Su Wei An, entrusting her to continue the research. Su Wei An expressed her determination to work hard. When Su Wei An overheard people discussing Gu Yun Zheng's change in research direction, she hurriedly confronted him because she didn't want their efforts to go to waste.
Gu Yun Zheng advised Su Wei An to continue working on her familiar research topic. However, he clarified that his own research was not solely focused on delaying dance syndrome but rather finding a genuine cure. Gu Yun Zheng acknowledged that it all sounded unrealistic but wanted to give it a try.
Su Wei An said she had given up but hoped that Gu Yun Zheng could shine in his own field. She didn't want him to live in elusive hope. Gu Yun Zheng, however, believed that although it was a very challenging task, he had faith in his abilities, and he didn't want his emotions to blind him.
Gu Yun Zheng also stated that his actions were not solely for Su Wei An but for the countless patients suffering from the same condition. He embraced Su Wei An, assuring her that as long as she was by his side, he wasn't afraid of anything. However, Su Wei An believed that they needed to calm down and think things through, so she decided to go back home that night.
When Gu Yun Zheng returned home, he discovered that Su Wei An hadn't come back. Seeing the empty room, he felt a sense of loss. Su Wei An had already moved out before she returned, and Gu Yun Zheng understood that she was genuinely concerned about him. Nevertheless, Gu Yun Zheng was determined to prove to Su Wei An that he could handle things on his own.
Subsequently, during work, Su Wei An purposely avoided talking to Gu Yun Zheng and would leave immediately after putting things down.
Jiang Mu Ying went to the hospital to see Fang Ming Fan, but Fang Ming Fan was too busy with work and didn't have time for her. Jiang Mu Ying complained to Su Wei An about it, but Su Wei An was also occupied with work. Jiang Mu Ying sensed that Su Wei An was upset and asked if she was having a conflict with Gu Yun Zheng. Although Su Wei An didn't explicitly say it, Jiang Mu Ying could feel it. Su Wei An and Jiang Mu Ying planned a weekend getaway to relax, but unexpectedly, Fang Ming Fan showed up, and to their surprise, Gu Yun Zheng came along too.
Su Wei An remains distant from Gu Yun Zheng, but Gu Yun Zheng is happy to see Su Wei An. Fang Ming Fan tells Jiang Mu Ying that he has prepared many surprises, but in reality, Fang Ming Fan was secretly called by Su Wei An. However, Fang Ming Fan also invited Gu Yun Zheng to join them. Fang Ming Fan said he wanted to take Jiang Mu Ying to see the sunset, but they walked for a long time without finding it. Jiang Mu Ying became tired, and her mood soured when Fang Ming Fan had prepared a surprise at the agreed location, but she got upset over a worm.
Upon returning, Jiang Mu Ying sees Su Wei An and realizes that she should give Gu Yun Zheng another chance. After all, Gu Yun Zheng has done a lot for her willingly. Su Wei An needs to trust Gu Yun Zheng's abilities.
Gu Yun Zheng and Su Wei An arrive at the riverside together. Gu Yun Zheng still wants to convince Su Wei An. He doesn't care about fame and fortune; he cares about having Su Wei An by his side.
In the end, Su Wei An forgives Gu Yun Zheng, and in the evening, the two couples have a barbecue camping trip together. The next day, Gu Yun Zheng takes Su Wei An to meet his mother's former colleague, who returns some of his mother's belongings. In the collection, there is a strange photo of Gu Yun Zheng's parents with himself, and it says, "We are a family."
Gu Yun Zheng's father learns from his wife that Gu Yun Zheng is in a relationship with a woman who has dance syndrome. He suddenly realizes the truth and calls Gu Yun Zheng to his office to inquire. He believes that Gu Yun Zheng's actions are clouded by emotions, but Gu Yun Zheng expresses his determination not to give up easily. Later, Gu Yun Zheng's father seeks out Su Wei An's mother.
Scientific research is filled with difficulties. If we were to stagnate just because of these challenges, the number of terminally ill patients in the world would only increase. I hope that one day in the future, conditions like dance syndrome and cancer, which are currently considered incurable, will no longer be seen as hopeless, and there will be hope and possibilities for their treatment.
Scientific research is like a relay race, with one baton being passed to the next generation. I believe that more and more people will enter this field. Whether it's medicine or science, I hope that the focus should be on benefiting humanity rather than pursuing personal glory.
Instead of chasing papers and honors, I hope we focus on advancing technology and techniques. Nothing is perfect, but we hope that our researchers can strive to come as close to perfection as possible.
