Episode 31 recap: Ignorance is bliss when you're young.
Ignorance is bliss when you're young.Gou Dan Dan went to the hospital to get the baby vaccinated. After registering, Dan Dan sat in the waiting area, waiting for her turn. Suddenly, Gou Dan Dan received a phone call. The other end of the line was silent, but Dan Dan didn't pay much attention as it was a random number.
She hung up and continued waiting. Dong Jia Xi, who was taking care of Teacher Ding, was busy attending to her mother's discomfort while also comforting her. Dong Jia Xi mentioned that Zhang Pei had contacted many experts and made an appointment in Beijing. After getting the appointment, they would go there. Dong Jia Xi tried to give Teacher Ding hope, but she wasn't very happy. Teacher Ding slowly expressed her desire to go home. At first, Dong Jia Xi didn't want her mother to leave the hospital during this critical period. However, Teacher Ding insisted on going home for a visit. It had been a long time since she had seen her dog named Ke Le (Coke). So Dong Jia Xi agreed and said they would have some fun today. However, Teacher Ding wasn't sure what she wanted to do, so she asked what young people usually do. After confirming that it was Thursday, Dong Jia Xi knew what to do with her mother.
Finally, it was Gou Dan Dan's turn. She struggled to get up with the baby in her arms. When she arrived at the designated place, she realized that she had lost the vaccination record. At that moment, Qi Pu appeared from behind and handed Gou Dan Dan the lost vaccination record for the baby. Gou Dan Dan was momentarily confused. With the doctor's guidance, the baby successfully received the vaccine. However, they needed to wait outside for thirty minutes for observation. Gou Dan Dan was curious about how Qi Pu found them. Qi Pu revealed that he overheard the conversation on the phone. It turned out that the call was made by Qi Pu. Both of them felt awkward, as if they had a lot to say but couldn't express it. After a long silence, Qi Pu managed to say that she could ask him for help if she needed anything, and Dan Dan nodded in response.
Dong Jia Xi bought a lot of fried chicken, cola, and shared them with her mother. Teacher Ding, who hadn't eaten "junk food" in a long time, had an unprecedented smile on her face. Dong Jia Xi was happy to see her mother enjoying herself. Then Dong Jia Xi asked her mother if there was anything else she wanted to do. Teacher Ding expressed her desire to play a script written by Dong Jia Xi. Dong Jia Xi was surprised but agreed to arrange it for her mother. During their conversation, Dong Jia Xi realized that her mother had been going online to learn the language used by young people. Wu Yun took care of Dan Dan's baby while talking on the phone with Liu Wen Shan. The young couple felt embarrassed and had their own things to attend to. They made plans to meet the next day and went their separate ways.
Zhang Pei woke up and was getting ready to go to work when her mother called her to have breakfast. Zhang Pei glanced at the time and realized she had enough time, so she sat down to eat. Her mother casually mentioned Xie Yang, and Zhang Pei insisted that she had no thoughts about him. Unexpectedly, her mother said she wanted to introduce Xie Yang to someone. Zhang Pei pretended not to care, but her behavior seemed strange. Her father laughed without saying a word. While waiting for the car outside, Xie Yang sent Zhang Pei a screenshot of their conversation. To Zhang Pei's surprise, her mother had actually introduced her cousin to Xie Yang.
Zhang Pei was speechless. She then immersed herself in her work. While scrolling through her social media feed, she came across a public tender for an insurance brokerage project. Liu Feng also saw it. When Zhang Pei arrived at the office, she mentioned the opportunity during the meeting. However, Liu Feng was still concerned because it was a great opportunity, but they didn't even have an entry ticket. Zhang Pei mentioned that she knew someone who might be able to help.
Wu Yun finished her work and was preparing to go on a date when her supervisor assigned her another task. After finishing the task, she was approached by some elderly people to play mahjong, which delayed her for a long time. By the time she arrived, the event was already over, and Liu Wen Shan wasn't answering her calls. So Wu Yun waited in the same spot. On the other side, Dong Jia Xi took Teacher Ding to a murder mystery game. Since they didn't have enough players, they invited Yin Le's parents and Yin Le to join. Dong Jia Xi acted as the host.
Finally, after a long time, Liu Wen Shan's group returned. Wu Yun greeted him from afar, but Liu Wen Shan didn't react much, which made Wu Yun feel inferior instantly. When others asked, Wu Yun only said that she mistook the person. In the end, Liu Wen Shan took the initiative to come forward and publicly acknowledged Wu Yun. After being punished with fifty push-ups, the couple finally reunited. It turned out that earlier, Liu Wen Shan didn't respond to Wu Yun because their group hadn't disbanded yet. They then went shopping together, and Liu Wen Shan encouraged Wu Yun to sing. It felt like there were only the two of them in the moment, and they were very sweet together.
On the other side, the murder mystery game went smoothly. The script written by Dong Jia Xi actually included some parts about her mother. Through those elements, Teacher Ding became stronger and decided to cherish the time ahead. Zhang Pei came across her cousin's friend circle on social media and felt uncomfortable. Dan Dan's parents went to find her, and unexpectedly, they overheard some neighbors discussing Dan Dan in a derogatory manner. They confronted them, and Dan Dan also arrived. However, on the other side, the baby's grandparents came again and tried to take the child away!
I've come across many comments saying that Dong Jia Xi is a failure, but I don't think it's fair to say that. She completed her postgraduate studies in a different field and managed to find a job in Beijing on her own.
If it weren't for her mother falling ill, she might have already become a scriptwriter or an assistant director by now.
Her mother wanted her to have a "safety net" in life, but nowadays, there's no such thing as a guaranteed job.
Jia Xi lied, lacks social experience, and was deceived. But isn't it also because of her mother's constant "planning" and "control" that she ended up this way?
To be honest, Dong Jia Xi studied accounting in her undergraduate years, and her mother had already pushed her to her limits even before the surgery.
It's true that it was after her mother's surgery that she acted inconsistently, so both of them bear some responsibility.
There are always people saying that Jia Xi's mother's love is suffocating, but I disagree. It wasn't when she returned from Beijing that her mother asked her to take the CPA exam; it was decided a long time ago.
The intention was to secure a stable job for her in the future, and her mother agreed to let her choose a job she liked and supported her in exploring different options. But what were the results?
She excelled in the theater and demonstrated creativity and imagination.
Her mother agreed to let her stay in Beijing, even without informing her about her illness. However, she lost her job, had her ideas stolen by others, and couldn't join a studio. When she returned and started looking for work, it wasn't smooth sailing.
And then her mother was diagnosed with cancer, which made her more determined to have Jia Xi pass the CPA exam, just in case the surgery didn't succeed.
But what if her mother passes away? What will Jia Xi do without a stable job or a specific skill?
Sell insurance with Pei Jie? Become an internet celebrity with Dan Dan? Work at the neighborhood committee with Yun Mei? Can friends support you for a lifetime? If being an internet celebrity is so profitable, why aren't all four of them doing it?
Why aren't they in the same field?
Her mother doesn't have the luxury to plan for the future anymore. With cancer, time is limited. Even if Jia Xi changes her career path after passing the exam, she can still pursue it later.
Is there no difference between passing and not passing the exam?
If she doesn't take the exam and her current career isn't going well, can she easily switch to another field without a certification? Her mother simply wants her to finish the exam, obtain the certification, and have more options in the future.
Whether she chooses to pursue that path or not is another matter. Did Jia Xi listen?
She didn't even study. She kept lying, wanting to write scripts and go out to play. Can't she study for the CPA exam? Would it delay her learning?
It wouldn't, but she just refuses to study. Can her mother not be angry? Can you say her mother's concerns are completely unfounded?
Does that constitute suffocating? Are people so fragile? Why are there so many people taking the postgraduate entrance exams after graduating from university?
According to your logic, shouldn't they venture out early? Is it the same thing? Her mother didn't object to her dating or pursuing other jobs. It's only because she failed that her mother encouraged her to take the exam, so that she wouldn't have to settle for just any job to make ends meet.
Just like me, when I graduated, I didn't take the teacher's exam because I didn't want to teach. I wanted to explore other opportunities, and now I deeply regret it. Apart from working as a security guard in a factory or hotel, it's hard to find other jobs.
That's why I think her mother is actually good. It's not as suffocating as you all make it out to be. It's just my personal opinion.
