Episode 12 recap: Pei Xing Jian faced difficulties upon assuming his new position.

The Jia family warmly welcomed Pei Xing Jian. At that moment, Jia Chongyu's sister, Jingniang, returned. She appeared to be a very straightforward person, without any resemblance to a traditional young lady. Jingniang commented that Liuli didn't look like someone who had just escaped from the hands of bad people, and she expressed her admiration for Liuli's makeup. She even invited Liuli to her residence sometime to teach her makeup techniques before leaving abruptly.

After being intoxicated by alcohol, Pei Xing Jian was sent to his room to rest. Liuli, upon learning about this, left the gathering to take care of Pei Xing Jian. When Liuli arrived by Pei Xing Jian's side, intending to help him change clothes, a servant brought sobering soup and a basin of water. In reality, Liuli knew that Pei Xing Jian was not actually drunk; he just wanted to end the banquet early.

Pei Xing Jian embraced Liuli, who expressed her concern that the Jia family's warm reception might indicate ill intentions. However, Pei Xing Jian assured her not to worry excessively and said they would handle any situation that arises. Liuli mentioned encountering Jingniang and acknowledged that she can handle dealing with someone as troublesome as her.

Pei Xing Jian kissed Liuli, hoping to preserve this beautiful moment. When Liuli woke up, she saw a bird flying outside the window, unaware that it belonged to Jia Chongyu's father. Jia Chongyu's father was unwilling to accept the fact that the Western Zhou region now belonged to the Tang Dynasty. Early in the morning, Jia Chongyu went to find Pei Xing Jian and insincerely admitted that he was in the wrong the previous night. Liuli, pretending to be magnanimous, did not blame Jia Chongyu for his behavior.

Liuli interjected when Jia Chongyu intentionally provoked Pei Xing Jian during their conversation. Jia Chongyu was at a loss for words and had no explanation. Helpless, he had no choice but to leave first. Liuli was delighted to see that she had angered Jia Chongyu.

After having dinner, Pei Xing Jian brought Liuli to the newly purchased residence in Xizhou. Both Pei Xing Jian and Liuli were very satisfied with the environment there, and Liuli quickly arranged everything in the house. Pei Xing Jian praised Liuli for her help.

In the following days, Pei Xing Jian planned to take Liuli to explore and enjoy their time in the new residence. It was their first property that they genuinely owned, and though not the grandest, it was warm and cozy. When Pei Xing Jian was busy with work, Liuli took the opportunity to go shopping in the streets and buy new things for their home. It was during one of these outings that Jingniang suddenly passed by on horseback. Jingniang had visited an art gallery and criticized the portrait of herself, giving the owner a scolding.

At that moment, Liuli entered the scene. Upon learning that Liuli was an artist who had recently arrived in the capital, Jingniang invited her to visit her residence and create paintings. When Wang Jun Meng returned home, his first priority was to search for Jingniang. Initially, Jia Chongyu's father intended to confront Pei Xing Jian, but after Wang Jun Meng's persuasion, he decided to hold off for the time being.

Wang Jun Meng had also prepared some supplies for Pei Xing Jian. However, it was evident that these individuals were not friendly, and Pei Xing Jian knew that the Jia family had intentionally set up obstacles for him. Jia Chongyu also shared some recent official documents with Pei Xing Jian, as one of his tasks was to handle military affairs.

The current situation appeared to be far from simple. Xizhou was burdened with debts, making it challenging to govern effectively. Pei Xing Jian was in his room discussing ways to reduce the expenses of the ministers with Liuli, unaware that a guard on the rooftop was eavesdropping on their conversation.
