Episode 21 recap: Pei Xing Jian successfully solved the Copper Buddha case.

This time, Pei Xing Jian is dealing with a new case involving a dispute between a monk and the common people. The monk visited a rural household and learned that the woman did not actually save the child who fell into danger. The woman's own son has been seriously ill at home, and the monk claims that it is a result of her failure to do good deeds. He instructs them to come to the temple the next day for guidance.

However, in front of the imperial court, the monk denies knowing the Kong family. The woman claims that she sincerely repented before the Buddha the next day and even witnessed the Buddha shedding tears, believing it was a divine sign. Everyone at that time believed her deeply, and the woman fainted due to excitement, but was kindly sent back home. However, the next day, the monk, named Yi Zhao, came again and asked them for money, claiming it was for performing rituals to save the deceased child. Since then, Yi Zhao frequently visited the Kong family asking for money, to the point where the Kong family couldn't even afford medical treatment for their son.

One day, the sick child in the Kong family saw Yi Zhao together with a woman, but in court, Yi Zhao denied their claims and called it nonsense. In response, Pei Xing Jian had the widow summoned to the court. The widow approached with some nausea, and Han Si, who was present, confirmed seeing Yi Zhao at the Kong family's residence. It was also revealed that the illness afflicting the Kong family's son was treatable. Yi Zhao confessed a secret, revealing that he had a twin brother named Meng Er, whom he could summon. Pei Xing Jian agreed to this and sent soldiers along with Yi Zhao. Pei Xing Jian informed the military official Cai Chongyu about the matter, and they searched the temple but couldn't find Meng Er. When they eventually found Meng Er, he was already dead.

Yi Zhao was emotionally devastated upon seeing this. A high-ranking monk at the temple also discovered the body of Meng Er at the cliff, but Pei Xing Jian suspected that the deceased might be the real Yi Zhao, and the person in front of them might be Meng Er. Pei Xing Jian stated that they would bring the widow, Mrs. Li, to identify the body the next day to determine if the person was indeed Meng Er.

Soon, Mrs. Li was brought by Cai Chongyu for questioning. Although Mrs. Li denied being pregnant, Han Si had already noticed her physical changes, confirming that she was indeed pregnant. Under Cai Chongyu's pressure, Mrs. Li agreed to identify the body. However, upon seeing it, she realized that the deceased was not Meng Er but his brother, Yi Zhao.

During the court hearing, Mrs. Li revealed the truth to Pei Xing Jian and mentioned that Meng Er had a birthmark on his leg, which was not present on the deceased. The truth came to light, but Meng Er insisted that he did not kill his brother. He claimed that his brother fell off the cliff accidentally. Despite this, Pei Xing Jian still found the situation suspicious, but at the moment, Meng Er seemed to have no suspicion.

Only by proving that Yi Zhao died three months ago could it be said that Meng Er had murderous intentions. Cai Chongyu also arrived at the temple and found the Buddha shedding tears to be quite strange. Upon further investigation, he discovered that the Buddha statue was hollow. Cai Chongyu decided to stay the night there and occupied Meng Er's room. Later, he learned about the ice cellar situated behind the room, perhaps hinting at the reason behind everything.

Coincidentally, Pei Xing Jian also discovered that the copper pot produced water droplets when in contact with ice. Both of them had the same thought. The next day, the trial took place at the temple, and Pei Xing Jian publicly suggested that the Buddha could identify the person killed by Meng Er. Initially, Meng Er didn't believe it, but at that moment, the Buddha unexpectedly shed tears. The people present believed it was a divine sign, and they declared Meng Er as the murderer.

The entire Cai family rejoiced upon learning that their grandson had finally returned from Chang'an. Pei Xing Jian also returned home and saw Liuli. He rushed over and embraced her. Originally, Liuli was supposed to return in two days, but she unexpectedly came back early. Cai Chongyu and his father were overjoyed to see their child back home, and they owed it to Liuli; otherwise, it would have been difficult for them to reunite with their child.
