Episode 17 recap: Cui Lin is preparing to leave the Zhenxi Army.

Li Yi reveals that he was curious about what kind of person Cui Lin's father was before, and now it seems that his suspicions were correct. Cui Lin is just like her father, truly deserving to be his daughter, and he truly deserves to be Cui Lin's father. Cui Lin tells Li Yi not to think that a few sweet words will make her forgive him. Li Yi jokingly tells Cui Lin that if she doesn't wake up soon, he will have to kiss her.

Li Yi and Cui Lin sit quietly together without saying a word. Tao Zi and Chang Er quietly walk away, giving them some privacy. Cui Lin is about to pour herself a drink, but Li Yi stops her, concerned that she shouldn't drink due to her injury. Li Yi asks if she is still angry with him, but Cui Lin remains silent.

Li Yi takes hold of Cui Lin's hand, and although Cui Lin tries to shake him off, Li Yi tightens his grip. Cui Lin attempts to use a hidden weapon, but Li Yi skillfully dodges it. Li Yi asks if her hand injury has healed, and Cui Lin replies that her heart has healed, so her hand naturally follows suit.

Li Yi feels a bit sad, thinking that Cui Lin got hurt being a pawn for Lord Cui, yet she never did anything for him. Cui Lin insists that she did do something and takes out a wrist guard to give to Li Yi. She tells him that she made it when she was in Dongguan and had no idea he would turn out to be ungrateful.

Cui Lin intends to burn the wrist guard, but Li Yi asks why she wants to destroy it. He puts it on his own arm and deliberately struggles to fasten it, asking Cui Lin for help. Seizing the opportunity, Cui Lin uses a sedative to make him unconscious. Cui Lin looks at the sleeping Li Yi and murmurs to herself that they are ultimately enemies, not friends.

When they meet again, it will undoubtedly be on the battlefield, fighting for survival. After saying this, Cui Lin kisses Li Yi and advises him to take care. Cui Lin leaves and meets up with Tao Zi, and the two of them quietly depart. They reach the riverside, where Tao Zi calls a boatman to ferry them across the river.

Little did they know that the boatman was actually Li Yi in disguise. Li Yi had already discovered Cui Lin's plan when he saw the prescription that Tao Zi had asked Chang Er to buy. Cui Lin asks him why he continued to watch their performance if he already knew, and Li Yi tells her that without giving it a try, they wouldn't know if their escape would succeed.

Cui Lin and Tao Zi are furious when they are captured and brought back. Li Yi tells them that he has learned from this experience and has increased the number of guards around their residence, making it impossible to escape. Cui Lin offers to help Li Yi kill Sun Jing, but in return, she wants him to set her free.

However, Li Yi believes that Sun Jing's life is far less important than Cui Lin, the daughter of Cui Yi. Cui Lin is surprised that Li Yi knows her true identity. Li Yi tells her that he had known Cui Lin's true identity long before he rescued her and had written a letter to Cui Yi. He hopes that Cui Yi will join him in suppressing the rebellion and reclaiming Xichangjing.

Li Yi has revealed Cui Lin's true identity to General Xiao Pei, but Xiao Pei thinks it's a lie made up by Li Yi to marry Cui Lin. Li Yi asks him to think about Lord Cui's attitude towards Cui Lin and whether it's necessary for him to deceive him.

Lord Cui didn't die when he fell into the water; he was pulled ashore by Ashu, who also fell into the water. Tao Zi turns the flowers that Li Yi sends every day into rouge and dresses Cui Lin in the clothes he sent, thinking she looks beautiful in them.

Li Yi decides to release Cui Lin, knowing that they don't know when they will see each other again or where they will meet. Cui Lin asks him when he plans to set her free, and Li Yi tells her that Cui Yi's letter states that they will meet tomorrow.

Cui Lin repeats "tomorrow" and Li Yi asks if it's too soon. Chang Er gives Tao Zi a whistle, and when she blows it, only Chang Er can hear the sound. Chang Er tells her that whenever she blows the whistle, he will appear by her side. Tao Zi is very sad and tears fall from her eyes.

Chang Er doesn't understand why she suddenly starts crying, and Tao Zi says she wants to eat pig's ears. Chang Er is about to go buy them when Tao Zi blows the whistle in her hand, and Chang Er quickly runs back to her. Cui Lin and Li Yi arrive at Leyouyuan, and Cui Lin finds it truly beautiful. Cui Lin asks how he found out about her identity, and Li Yi admits that when Cui Lin mentioned being Lord Cui's concubine, he began to suspect her identity.

Li Yi believes that if both he and Cui Lin were commoners, the outcome might have been different, but Cui Lin believes that one's fate is predetermined.
