Episode 3 recap: Li Yi hurriedly travels with Cui Lin on his back.
Tao Zi and Chen Xing, two guards of the Cui family, come to find Young Master Cui. They received orders to assist him. Young Master Cui informs them that Cui Lin has gone missing. Tao Zi tells him that as long as Cui Lin still uses a certain fragrance powder, he can definitely find her. On the other hand, Li Yi and Cui Lin have been captured by a group of bandits.
The leader asks Cui Lin who she really is. Cui Lin tells them that she is the beloved concubine of Prince Li Yi. The leader then asks Li Yi if what Cui Lin said is true. Li Yi is forced to admit that she is indeed his beloved concubine. The leader informs them that there is someone here who served in the Zhenxi Army back in the day. He quickly orders someone to summon his second brother to confirm if the person is truly Li Yi.
The second brother rushes over upon seeing Li Yi and recognizes him as his former comrade from the military camp. Li Yi had saved his life before, although he didn't know that Li Yi was of royal descent. However, he knew that Li Yi was his benefactor. They quickly release Li Yi, but Cui Lin remains bound.
The second brother informs Li Yi about their current predicament, which is the result of the oppression they faced from the court, particularly by Sun Jing. They had no choice but to turn to banditry in the mountains. Li Yi feels uneasy upon hearing this. The leader, Huang You Yi, believes that Li Yi is a righteous person and wants him to become their leader and lead them to seek refuge with the Zhenxi Army.
Amidst the excitement, Huang You Yi intends to sacrifice Cui Lin to the heavens. In the critical moment, Li Yi hastily states that although Cui Lin is his concubine, she is also the love of his life. They had planned to elope together, and upon hearing this, everyone quickly helps Cui Lin up from the ground.
Though their stronghold may be rudimentary, they believe that they shouldn't skip the rituals of a proper wedding. They bring Cui Lin and Li Yi to a room, allowing them to have their wedding night there. Cui Lin immediately lies down on the bed, exhausted from the day and desiring some rest. Li Yi also wants to sleep on the bed, and as they argue about it, Tao Zi from the Cui family's guards arrives.
She couldn't see the faces of the two individuals clearly and was about to shoot an arrow at them. Cui Lin recognized her and quickly called out to Tao Zi. Tao Zi also recognized Cui Lin and thought that Li Yi was going to harm her, so she wanted to shoot Cui Lin with an arrow.
After some explanation, they realized it was a misunderstanding. Huang You Yi's subordinate informed him that the Guo family's army from the foot of the mountain was coming to attack. Huang You Yi told Li Yi to take Cui Lin and leave, while they left A Shu and Tao Zi behind.
Shortly after they left, Cui Lin shouted that she couldn't walk anymore. Li Yi told her that he had a plan but needed her cooperation. They arrived at a farmhouse, where they changed into ordinary clothes. Li Yi asked Cui Lin to pretend to be pregnant. He told her that they could only borrow a carriage if she appeared pregnant. They sat in the carriage and hadn't traveled far when they encountered an elderly couple.
Li Yi got off the carriage and asked them how they got the injuries on their faces. The old man told him that there was a checkpoint ahead and he and his wife were robbed of their rabbits and got into a fight with the perpetrators who claimed to be under the Guo family's army. Those people didn't take it lightly when they ate a few of their rabbits.
Li Yi and Cui Lin continued on their journey. Cui Lin couldn't walk due to her leg injury. Li Yi planned to carry her but noticed that her hands were hot. Li Yi saw that Cui Lin's wound was infected and had worsened. He asked Cui Lin why she didn't say anything earlier, but she didn't think it was a big deal.
She assured Li Yi that she would be fine, but he insisted on carrying her. As they continued walking, they encountered the same couple again. Li Yi asked them why they had returned. The old man explained that his wife was reluctant and wanted to go back to see if they could find more goods from the mountains. However, they only managed to catch a wild chicken.
Fortunately, they met Li Yi and Cui Lin, and the four of them made soup with the chicken. During the night, Cui Lin realized the hardships faced by the couple and secretly placed her jewelry in the old woman's clothes.
