Episode 38 recap: Liu Cheng Feng saved Cui Lin before she died.

Li Yi led soldiers to search the streets for Cui Lin's whereabouts, but without any results. Liu Cheng Feng captured Cui Lin and brought her next to him. Under the pressure from the powerful people, he was forced to feed Cui Lin poison. Li Yi looked at Cui Lin lying on the bed. The imperial physician told him that he could no longer feel the pulse of Princess Consort Cui Lin. Li Yi couldn't believe what he was seeing and stood still in disbelief.

Cui Lin and Tao Zi were taken away at Feng Ying Tower. Liu Cheng Feng looked at a bloodied Tao Zi and ordered Wu Luo's men to throw Tao Zi into the mass grave. Liu Cheng Feng asked Wu Luo if he brought the medicine. Wu Luo handed the medicine to Liu Cheng Feng, who immediately sensed that something was wrong with it.

In anger, Liu Cheng Feng threw the medicine onto the ground, realizing that the plan had been exposed. Wu Luo told Liu Cheng Feng that since he didn't want to proceed with the plan, they would proceed on his behalf. Liu Cheng Feng asked why, and Wu Luo told him it was because he was too greedy.

Liu Cheng Feng explained to Wu Luo why Ashu didn't come with him. It was because Ashu already knew about Wu Luo's collusion with Minister Gu, and Liu Cheng Feng had already arranged for Ashu to do something else. Wu Luo became anxious and demanded Liu Cheng Feng tell him where Ashu was.

Liu Cheng Feng told him that he couldn't reveal that information. In response, Wu Luo tied up Liu Cheng Feng and tortured him. Liu Cheng Feng insisted that even if he were killed, he wouldn't reveal the information. He had already made an agreement with Ashu that if they couldn't find him within twelve hours, Ashu would reveal the evidence of Wu Luo's collusion with Minister Gu to Li Yi.

Li Yi and Chang Er were frantically searching for Cui Lin and Tao Zi, but to no avail. The Emperor didn't understand why Li Yi had closed the city gates and prevented anyone from entering or leaving. He called Minister Gu and asked if Li Yi was planning a rebellion. Minister Gu advised him not to worry and suggested that they first invite Li Yi to clarify the situation.

Qiu Cui happily handed over the auspicious cake brought by Minister Gu to Lady Gu Wan. As soon as Lady Gu Wan saw the auspicious cake, she understood its meaning and happily exclaimed that it was the most delicious auspicious cake she had ever eaten. Meanwhile, Li Yi was still searching the city with Cui Lin's portrait, not even having time to see the Emperor. Wu Luo asked Liu Cheng Feng if Cui Lin would be willing to leave with him if she woke up, but it was nothing more than wishful thinking on his part.

However, Liu Cheng Feng said that Cui Lin loved him, contradicting Wu Luo's statement that if Cui Lin loved him, she wouldn't have married Li Yi. Wu Luo told Liu Cheng Feng that only one of them could stay, suggesting that killing Cui Lin would be the best option since she wouldn't love him anyway.

Liu Cheng Feng, seeing no other option, reluctantly agreed to Wu Luo's plan to kill Cui Lin. However, he had one condition: he wanted to be the one to kill her, without shedding any blood. Wu Luo agreed and gave Liu Cheng Feng the best poison they had. With great difficulty, Liu Cheng Feng fed the poison to Cui Lin, while Li Yi was still frantically searching for her in the city.

After witnessing Cui Lin being poisoned, Wu Luo prepared to leave with Liu Cheng Feng. However, just as Li Yi and the others arrived outside the place where Cui Lin was hiding, Chang Er came to report that someone at the Yi Village seemed to have seen the person they were looking for. Li Yi was about to leave for the Yi Village when Liu Cheng Feng used all his strength to make a sound.

Wu Luo, afraid of being exposed, killed Liu Cheng Feng. Just before he died, Liu Cheng Feng mustered his last bit of energy and rushed out, urging Li Yi to save Cui Lin. Li Yi entered and found Cui Lin lying on the ground. He quickly carried her back and instructed Chang Er to continue searching for Tao Zi.

Many imperial physicians came to examine Cui Lin. They informed Li Yi that there was no pulse, and the Princess Consort had passed away. Li Yi was unwilling to believe what he heard. He knew Cui Lin wouldn't die. He urged the physicians to do everything they could to save her. The physicians knelt on the ground, trembling with fear.

Li Yi held the album they had created together and tried to awaken Cui Lin, but to no avail. Qiu Cui informed Lady Gu Wan that Cui Lin had died. Lady Gu Wan sat up happily, knowing that Li Yi would be heartbroken for some time. Li Yi brought Cui Lin to Leyou Yuan. She lay quietly under a tree. Li Yi recounted their first visit to Leyou Yuan, speaking to Cui Lin, hoping she would wake up.

He told her he would sing her a song and hoped she would wake up. He counted to ten, saying that if Cui Lin didn't open her eyes, it would mean she had lost. But none of these efforts worked. Cui Lin remained unconscious. Li Yi stayed by her side in Leyou Yuan, sitting from day to night, and from night to day.

Finally, Cui Lin woke up and looked at the sleeping Li Yi. She felt a deep sense of heartache.
