Episode 40 recap: Li Yi arrived at Laolang Pass with Cui Lin and their children.

Li Yi and the Emperor sat together, and the Emperor told Li Yi that he was entrusting the world to him. He felt that he was not a good emperor or a good father, but he had a good son. He knew that Li Yi would definitely be a good emperor. Cui Lin told Li Yi that she was pregnant, and Li Yi was thrilled to become a father.

Cui Lin sat by the bed and fed medicine to Tao Zi. Tao Zi felt relieved that Cui Lin was okay. However, Cui Lin felt that it was even better that Tao Zi was fine. Chang'er told Cui Lin that Li Yi was deeply saddened. Cui Lin said she didn't know what was going on. It felt like she had a long dream and couldn't wake up from it. She only leaped up from the coffin when her qi and blood circulated properly.

After listening to Cui Lin's description, Tao Zi thought Cui Lin might have taken the fake death medicine she had developed before. Cui Lin pondered for a moment and asked Tao Zi if she had given the medicine to Liu Cheng Feng. Tao Zi told her that at that time, Liu Cheng Feng was still a young master, and she had given him the remaining medicine. Cui Lin seemed to be contemplating something after hearing that.

A'Shu was sleeping when a few drops of water fell on his face. He quickly wiped them away as if he were holding Liu Cheng Feng's remains. He spoke to Liu Cheng Feng's ashes, saying they had already covered a large part of the journey and would soon arrive at the place Liu Cheng Feng wanted to go during his lifetime.

He sighed, wondering if Cui Lin knew that Liu Cheng Feng had already passed away. He believed that Liu Cheng Feng must have had no regrets before his death. The Empress told the Emperor that through this incident, he could see that Li Yi was a very filial child. The Emperor finally understood and felt fortunate to have Li Yi as his son. He had decided to abdicate the throne in favor of Li Yi.

He believed that Li Yi would definitely be a good emperor, and he wanted to live a peaceful and comfortable life with the Empress. The Emperor called Li Yi and taught him how to play with crickets. They had a joyful time together. The Emperor smiled as he watched Li Yi, feeling extremely happy. The Emperor and Li Yi sat together on the steps of the grand hall, and the Emperor recalled Li Yi's peculiar personality and temper when he was a child. He was nothing like him.

The Emperor said that fortunately, Li Yi was nothing like him. He was ready to hand over the country and the world to Li Yi. He knew he was not a good emperor or a good father, but he had a good son. He believed that Li Yi would definitely be a good emperor in the future. Li Yi asked what he should do if he didn't want to be an emperor. The Emperor simply said that if he didn't want to, then he didn't have to. As long as he was happy, he knew Li Yi would find a reliable person to be the emperor.

The Emperor asked Li Yi not to be so serious and to smile more while he hadn't become emperor yet. He told Li Yi that when he got tired in the future, he could come to him, and they would play with crickets together. Li Yi presided over the enthronement ceremony and ascended to the throne that many people coveted. Cui Lin was also crowned as the empress, while Gu Wan'niang was demoted to a commoner.

Cui Lin made another bet with Li Yi. She said that if Li Yi closed his eyes and didn't open them while she spoke, he would win. Li Yi confidently told her that he wouldn't open his eyes, even if she kissed him. However, Cui Lin surprised Li Yi by revealing that she was pregnant. Li Yi's eyes widened in astonishment as he looked at Cui Lin. He told her that he wanted a daughter so that he could return to Laolang Pass with his daughter and Cui Lin.

Chang'er and Tao Zi were walking on the street when they encountered Gu Wan'niang, who was acting erratically and claiming to be the crown princess. Chang'er stood absent-mindedly, and Li Yi asked him what was wrong. Chang'er asked Li Yi how he had convinced Cui Lin to marry him. Li Yi told him that he couldn't help him with that and that it depended on his sincerity.

Chang'er told Tao Zi that he didn't want to be as smart as Li Yi and didn't know what counted as sincerity. He assured Tao Zi that he would always be with her and take care of her. Upon hearing this, Tao Zi happily agreed, and Chang'er joyfully lifted Tao Zi up and spun her around.

While Li Yi and Cui Lin were chatting together, Cui Lin suddenly felt pain in her stomach. She went into labor and spent a whole day delivering the baby in the room, while Li Yi anxiously waited outside. Finally, Cui Lin safely gave birth to a son, and Li Yi rushed in, showing concern and love for Cui Lin.

Ten years later, Li Yi abdicated the throne and passed it on to Li Xuan Ze. He, along with Cui Lin and their son and daughter, arrived at Laolang Pass. Tao Zi and Chang'er also came to Laolang Pass, and they all lived happily together. (End of the drama)
