Episode 8 recap: Li Yi took refuge in Cui Lin's room.
Huang Youyi asked Cui Lin if she wasn't Li Yi's concubine, why was she now helping the Cui family's army. Upon hearing this, Young Master Cui became very angry and asked Li Yi what he meant and why he was slandering the Cui family's army. Cui Lin told Li Yi that she said those things before in order to save herself and asked him not to make baseless accusations anymore.
During the Qixi Lantern Festival, people invited General Xiao Pei and Young Master Cui to write inscriptions for the lantern festival. Lao Bao from the Zhenxi Army suggested that General Xiao Pei write something practical, like being able to marry a lady. However, General Xiao Pei didn't listen to him and wrote a few characters for favorable weather. Lao Bao sneered and said they were unwilling to fulfill such small wishes.
Han Li was tied up on a cross, and the crowd shouted to kill him. When the time came, Lao Bao shouted to kill Han Li and offer a sacrifice to the river god. Han Li's people also emerged from the shadows to save him. Li Yi and Cui Lin were strolling around the lantern festival and came to a booth. Li Yi tried on a wristband from the booth, and the vendor mistook Cui Lin for his wife and asked her to buy it for Li Yi.
Cui Lin immediately refuted him, telling the person that she was not his wife, and Li Yi no longer wanted the wristband. They left together. They arrived at the place where Han Li was to be killed, and the Zhenxi Army was very happy that they had found the tiger tally, but when Li Yi asked for it, they realized it had long been missing.
Li Yi seemed to have already anticipated this situation. He said that since the Cui family's army had already made plans like a praying mantis trying to catch cicadas, they shouldn't hide anymore. Right after he said that, Chen Xing from the Cui family's army took out the tiger tally. The Zhenxi Army was unhappy and questioned why Cui Lin, who claimed to be Li Yi's concubine, was now helping the Cui family's army.
Upon hearing that Cui Lin was Li Yi's concubine, Young Master Cui immediately became very angry and accused them of falsely accusing the Cui family's army. The Zhenxi Army told him that it was Cui Lin who said it herself. Cui Lin explained to Young Master Cui that she said that because the situation was critical at the time, and she didn't expect them to misunderstand her.
Li Yi walked up to Cui Lin and told her that he had something to say to her. Young Master Cui thought it was a waste of time to talk to someone like Li Yi. He tried to pull Cui Lin away, but she said she would be right back and followed Li Yi. Gu Wanniang had been following Li Yi and Cui Lin, and she also learned about the wristband that Li Yi was interested in.
Gu Wanniang bought the wristband and was planning to give it to Li Yi. On the way, she encountered Cui Lin and informed her that she would be joining Li Yi's Zhenxi Army. She asked Cui Lin for advice on how to tailor men's clothing, and Cui Lin generously shared her methods with her.
Tao Zi prepared to take the clothes in Qiucui's hand to help her with the tailoring, but Qiucui told her that those clothes belonged to Li Yi. Gu Wanniang subtly hinted to Cui Lin that her relationship with Li Yi was not ordinary. Tao Zi picked up on their hidden conversation, and Cui Lin told her not to pay attention to them as they were both from wealthy families.
Li Yi saw the wristband on his table and thought it was a gift from Cui Lin. Happily, he went to find Cui Lin with the wristband. Cui Lin, knowing she didn't give it to him, became upset. Li Yi asked her what was different between the person who gave him the wristband and his beloved concubine. Cui Lin got a bit angry and told him that she said those things before as a temporary measure.
Now she didn't want to hide it from him anymore. She told Li Yi that she was actually a concubine of Young Master Cui. Li Yi stood still in shock. Tao Zi asked Cui Lin why she said such things to Li Yi when she and Young Master Cui were clearly innocent. Cui Lin told her that she needed to disrupt Li Yi's thoughts with some news. Tao Zi sensed another meaning behind her words.
Consort Xiao agreed to let Shen Niang become a nun to send her pregnant maid out of the palace. This was a ploy to allow the maid to infiltrate the outside world. However, as they had just left the palace gate, the Grand Commander sent someone to kill Shen Niang and the others. Li Yi was about to return the hairpin to Cui Lin but changed his mind and put it back on his own head.
Cui Lin asked him why he came, and Li Yi told her that he had realized the wristband he received during the day was actually a gift from Gu Wanniang. He apologized for his earlier words. Cui Lin asked if that was the only reason he came to talk to her. Before Li Yi could respond, Tao Zi suddenly arrived, causing Li Yi to quickly hide behind Cui Lin's folding screen.
