Episode 18 recap: Mei Kaishao accompanies Jiu'er to pay respects to their parents.

Mei Kaishao catches up with Murong Hanbing and explains her actions today, which were to investigate Cui Shi for Murong Hanbing. She informs Murong Hanbing about Cui Shi's situation. Murong Hanbing holds Mei Kaishao's hand and walks her home. Coincidentally, Mei Xuan sees them and superficially shows politeness to Murong Hanbing but is actually angry. After seeing Murong Hanbing off, Mei Xuan blames Mei Kaishao for getting too close to Murong Hanbing. Mei Kaishao, however, asks Mei Xuan where the family head's ring is. Mei Xuan admits to temporarily keeping it but is reminded by Mei Kaishao's question. Mei Xuan realizes that Mei Ao has been causing trouble during Mei Kaishao's previous incidents, so she goes to Zhang Shi to seek justice.

Zhang Shi pretends to scold Mei Ao while the mother and son duo deny any involvement. Mei Xuan becomes angry and leaves. Zhang Shi comforts her son and assures him that she will help him secure the position of the family head. Mei Kaishao accompanies Jiu'er to pay respects to their birth mother. Although the Empress Dowager treats Jiu'er well, Jiu'er still misses her mother. While they both give Jiu'er gifts, they never hold her and say she has grown another year older.

Mei Kaishao can't help but feel even more sorry for Jiu'er and consoles her. Both of Jiu'er's parents were heroes who sacrificed themselves for the country, so she shouldn't cry. She should be a courageous woman. Mei Kaishao then suggests treating Jiu'er to something delicious, which makes Jiu'er happy. When Jiu'er and Mei Kaishao leave together, they encounter a blockade by black-clad individuals.
