Episode 4 recap: Wang Pingguo faced obstacles in borrowing money from various sources.
Wang Pingguo's mother, Yin Binghua, came to the city for medical treatment and was diagnosed with a serious condition requiring immediate surgery. Yin Binghua didn't want Wang Pingguo to worry, so she asked the doctor to keep it a secret from her. However, Wang Pingguo managed to reach the hospital and learned about her mother's condition. Wang Pingguo wanted to ask her father, Wang Zhiguo, for money, but Yin Binghua believed that since Wang Zhiguo had abandoned them in the past, he wouldn't help them now, so she didn't want Wang Pingguo to seek him out.
Chen Chao, who had no food at home, called Wang Pingguo to apologize and try to reconcile with her. Wang Pingguo told Chen Chao about Yin Binghua's illness and asked him for money for her mother's surgery. However, Chen Chao claimed he had no money and refused to help Wang Pingguo. Wang Meimei overheard Wang Pingguo's conversation with Chen Chao and her request for money. She directly sat on Chen Chao's lap, snatched his phone, and hung up, preventing him from giving money to Wang Pingguo.
With no money to pay for Yin Binghua's surgery, Wang Pingguo resorted to calling her old friends to borrow money. However, to her surprise, each person made various excuses and refused to lend her a single penny. Unable to borrow money, Wang Pingguo couldn't afford the surgery for Yin Binghua. She decided to go home and freshen up, hoping to impress Chen Chao. However, Chen Chao belittled her appearance and showed no interest in the lipstick she had applied.
In an attempt to improve her relationship with Chen Chao, Wang Pingguo wanted to have a baby. She visited a friend at the hospital to inquire about her condition. However, her friend advised against having a child due to her heart condition. As Wang Pingguo left her friend's place, she coincidentally encountered Chen Chao and Wang Meimei, who had come to the hospital. Unfortunately, she didn't notice them and continued on her way. Wang Meimei spotted Wang Pingguo first and made Chen Chao hide, ensuring Wang Pingguo didn't notice that they were together for the check-up.
Wang Meimei pretended as if nothing was wrong and exchanged a few words with Wang Pingguo, diverting her attention and preventing her from noticing Chen Chao. Eventually, Wang Meimei managed to send Wang Pingguo away. Wang Meimei and Chen Chao went to the company to meet with their superiors for an interview. Chen Chao discovered the lipstick in his pocket and helped Wang Meimei apply it. Unexpectedly, Wang Pingguo arrived at that moment.
To avoid being discovered by Chen Chao, Wang Pingguo, in a hurry, placed the lipstick in Chen Chao's pocket when he returned home in the morning. However, Chen Chao used the lipstick to please Wang Meimei, causing her to suspect their relationship. Worried that Wang Pingguo would expose their affair, Wang Meimei played the victim and accused Wang Pingguo of not wanting her to stay at home, falsely blaming her. Then she left, crying.
Upon seeing Wang Meimei leave, Chen Chao immediately criticized Wang Pingguo, making it impossible for her to confront him. Naively, Wang Pingguo left Chen Chao's company without saying a word, leaving behind the ribs she had prepared.
