Episode 18 recap: Aunt Jiang lodged a complaint about the neighbors having hidden motives.
Due to special circumstances, Fang Shu Ran and Xiao Li Ming temporarily became roommates. Sometimes, the children would come over at night, and when they made a bit too much noise, it caused disturbances. Xiao Li Ming kindly reminded Fang Shu Ran to keep the volume down, as it could upset the neighbors. Fang Shu Ran promised that such incidents wouldn't happen again, but they still received a complaint from the neighbors which was reported to the property management.
On the other hand, Ma Le was complained about by his wife for frequently leaving early and returning late. He thought that by not working as a criminal investigator, he would be able to take better care of his family. However, when he transferred to the comprehensive management center, he found himself even busier. As a result, his wife wanted him to transfer to the household registration department, but her request was rejected. When Zhang Feng Jiao received the complaint, she immediately went to find Fang Shu Ran, only to discover Xiao Li Ming and realize that they were roommates.
Initially, Liu Xiao Tong thought that by obstructing Ma Le's dream of becoming a detective and having him transferred to the comprehensive management center, he would have more time to spend with her. However, she didn't anticipate that the comprehensive management center would also be extremely busy. Because of this, Liu Xiao Tong prepared many gifts and urged Ma Le to give them to the director of the branch office, in hopes that he would be transferred to the household registration department, where things would be much easier.
But Ma Le felt that there were still too many matters at the comprehensive management center, and it seemed inappropriate to leave so soon. However, Liu Xiao Tong refused to listen to reason and insisted repeatedly, forcing him to agree to go and deliver the gifts the next day. However, when Ma Le arrived downstairs at Director Gao's place, he was filled with inner conflict, especially with his wife's video urging him, which further troubled his mind.
Xiao Li Ming knew her mother's true thoughts but also felt sorry for Yang Ming An. So, she arranged a meeting with him at the matchmaking corner in the park, intending to introduce him to a potential wife. However, Yang Ming An didn't show any interest in those people at all. Seeing Yang Ming An all alone, Xiao Li Ming felt uneasy and reluctantly agreed to invite him to her home for the New Year's Eve dinner.
Coincidentally, Aunt Xiao thought that there would be many colleagues at the comprehensive management center who couldn't go home, so she suggested inviting them all for a meal. However, she immediately changed her attitude upon hearing Yang Ming An's name. Ma Le arrived at Xiao's house with the gifts and reluctantly revealed to Xiao Li Ming that Liu Xiao Tong wanted him to deliver the gifts, but he definitely didn't want to transfer to the household registration department. Thus, he tried to find an excuse to get by.
Not long after, Xiao Li Ming received another complaint call from Aunt Jiang. When he went to explain the situation to Fang Shu Ran, he discovered that Fang Shu Ran was teaching the children some gentle exercises, and there was no noise at all throughout the process. Fang Shu Ran was angry about the complaint and directly kicked Xiao Li Ming out of the house.
On the other hand, Ma Le returned home and was pestered by his wife about the gift-giving matter. Ma Le lied and claimed to have met with Director Gao. Liu Xiao Tong finally felt relieved and looked forward to a future of a beautiful and stable life. In the middle of the night, Aunt Jiang started complaining about Fang Shu Ran again. Helpless, Xiao Li Ming had no choice but to go and find Fang Shu Ran. Just as she arrived at the doorstep, Aunt Jiang demanded that she stay at her house and threatened to call the police if there was any noise.
The two of them sat face to face in the living room, and the atmosphere was so strange that Xiao Li Ming felt a bit uncomfortable. In the late hours of the night, Xiao Li Ming tried to find a topic to talk about and learned that Fang Shu Ran organized a themed activity where a few children would spend a day with the teacher to build relationships.
Observing Fang Shu Ran's home, Xiao Li Ming noticed various blind box figurines displayed on a nearby cabinet. She began telling Fang Shu Ran about the Sanxingdui archaeological site, but the more she talked, the more confusing it became, and eventually Fang Shu Ran fell asleep. The next morning, Xiao Li Ming fell asleep with her head on the table, while Fang Shu Ran was already up and cooking.
At this moment, Aunt Jiang, along with Zhang Feng Jiao and Guo Gan, arrived at the door, loudly accusing Fang Shu Ran of making noise. However, Xiao Li Ming could testify that it was quiet last night, so the biggest issue was with Aunt Jiang. Zhang Feng Jiao revealed that Aunt Jiang's daughter had passed away half a year ago while working abroad on a foreign aid project. As a result, Aunt Jiang had not processed the cancellation of her daughter's household registration, making the situation complicated and confusing.
Everyone speculated that Aunt Jiang might have developed auditory hallucinations due to her daughter's death. To confirm this, Xiao Li Ming, Zhang Feng Jiao, and Guo Gan went to talk to Aunt Jiang. Coincidentally, Aunt Jiang had a hallucination during the conversation. When she was speaking with her daughter on the phone, Xiao Li Ming noticed that the phone line was actually disconnected. Aunt Jiang suddenly realized her daughter's death and broke down in tears, leaving everyone present feeling uneasy.
Soon, Aunt Jiang was arranged to receive formal treatment at a regular hospital. Xiao Li Ming considered that there were many lonely elderly people in the community and hoped that Lao Chen could spare some time to visit them. However, Lao Chen said he couldn't leave because of some family matters. When Lao Chen returned home, he found out that his wife had gone missing. Fortunately, with the help of the people at the comprehensive management center, they successfully found Lao Chen's wife. Through this incident, Xiao Li Ming understood Lao Chen's difficulties and realized that he was a very outstanding person.
