Episode 15 recap: Xu Shi Qing's father is suspected of being abused in a nursing home.
When Xu Xiao Wei first came for an interview at the company, she secretly hid in the restroom to prepare to take medication. However, she was unexpectedly discovered by Wen Hui Xin. Xu Xiao Wei explained that she had depression. Wen Hui Xin accidentally dropped her earring into the toilet, and Xu Xiao Wei, without fear of getting dirty, personally picked it up for her. This incident showed Xu Xiao Wei's absolute loyalty to Wen Hui Xin.
Later, Wen Hui Xin presented Xu Xiao Wei with a fake news story to test her. Xu Xiao Wei was reluctant to report false news, but Wen Hui Xin admired her for it. As a result, Wen Hui Xin created a fake educational background for Xu Xiao Wei, allowing her to obtain a degree certificate after studying for six months. Wen Hui Xin assured Xu Xiao Wei that as long as she helped her with tasks in the future, she would be treated well.
For a period of time, Xu Xiao Wei sought help from a psychologist, hoping for an improvement in her condition. Xu Xiao Wei had made significant progress over the years, but her sister's sudden appearance caused her emotions to become unstable. She sometimes felt as if her sister was right beside her.
The company received an urgent news story, and Wen Hui Xin quickly assigned the task. Xu Shi Qing originally wanted to seize the opportunity to report the news, but because she didn't have experience studying in the UK, she ultimately chose Zhang Jia Yan to do it.
Xu Shi Qing was currently taking care of her father, who was suffering from dementia. Her father proudly claimed that Zhang Jia Yan, who was currently reporting the news, was his daughter. Xu Shi Qing felt uneasy about this. Soon, the company received a report stating that there were many cases of caregivers abusing the elderly in nursing homes. The whistleblower did not provide an address but sent a video. To be cautious, Liang Jing Ren decided not to report the news without authorization.
When Xu Shi Qing visited the nursing home to see her father, she secretly wore a pinhole camera to record the situation. Due to her father's dementia, Xu Shi Qing wanted to know if her father was being abused by the caregivers, but his mental state was poor, and he couldn't provide the desired answer. Xu Shi Qing then approached a nurse to inquire about the situation. Although the video only provided a view of the rooftop, Xu Shi Qing recognized the billboard on the rooftop and concluded that it was the nursing home where her father was located.
However, due to her special identity, she did not receive any useful information. Xu Shi Qing returned empty-handed but encountered Zhang Jia Yan downstairs. Zhang Jia Yan was also investigating the situation. He had disguised his colleague and sent them to the nursing home under the pretense of arranging for their parents to reside there. They captured footage of the surroundings, as well as videos of caregivers violently assaulting the elderly using a hidden camera.
Upon returning, Xu Shi Qing handed the video over to Wen Hui Xin. However, Wen Hui Xin still felt that the evidence was insufficient and couldn't be reported temporarily, which left Xu Shi Qing feeling extremely frustrated.
Xu Shi Qing went to have a drink with Xu Ying Fei, who mentioned that the person who truly protected her was Liang Jing Ren. In order to gain Wen Hui Xin's trust, Xu Ying Fei even told Xu Shi Qing the name of Wen Hui Xin's favorite restaurant.
Xu Shi Qing quickly went to buy food to please Wen Hui Xin. She still wanted to report the video of the elderly being abused in the nursing home, and this time she finally gained Wen Hui Xin's support. Although the news was broadcasted, Xu Shi Qing's exposé led to all the elderly residents in the nursing home having to move out. Their family members were extremely resentful towards Xu Shi Qing. Xu Shi Qing took her father home with her, finally feeling that she had done something right.
After returning home, Xu Shi Qing showed her father the video of her hosting the news. Her father's emotions suddenly fluctuated, and he had an episode of urinary incontinence. Xu Shi Qing could only silently help her father clean up. Xu Xiao Wei, due to her sister's influence, had not been able to recover. She always felt that her sister was by her side, and for all these years, she hadn't even returned home due to her so-called vanity.
Xu Xiao Wei broke down in tears in the hallway, and Liang Jing Ren found her and quickly came forward to comfort her. After the live broadcast ended, Xu Shi Qing received a call from the nanny, who was frustrated because her father was being uncooperative at home.
After work, Wen Hui Xin saw Chen Zi Jie and he came over to help her and fix her car. Soon, he also received news about the volleyball team, involving allegations of sexual abuse by the coach. However, he wanted to investigate the situation thoroughly before deciding whether to report it.
Xu Shi Qing arrived at the scene for an interview, but when the players were on a break, she directly approached them and asked about the sexual abuse. However, the players did not respond to her. Liu Yan went to conduct an investigation and found out that a girl named Zi Shan had been frequently making mistakes in the game due to a sprained foot. Liu Yan initially wanted to explain on her behalf but ended up being scolded by the coach.
Xiao Wei's depression is caused by low self-esteem, which is why she doesn't argue back when her sister scolds her and doesn't refuse when she is constantly threatened for money. She shows loyalty to Man Jie in order to gain favor. Low self-esteem stems from feelings of inadequacy, a chronic sense of unworthiness resulting from being manipulated by pick-up artists, or a lack of emotional fulfillment.
It is ultimately rooted in unclear boundaries and a lack of self-awareness. Failing to differentiate between oneself and others, she imposes the life issues of others onto herself, which is inherently wrong. Whether it's family, her sister, or her boss, they are all separate individuals, not her.
Whatever happens to them is a result of their own personalities, environments, and experiences. She can actively influence and initiate change, or passively accept it, but it's important to understand that Man Jie's dominance and her sister's irrationality are their own issues.
They are not caused by her, but rather inherent aspects of who they are.
I'm getting a bit tired of Zhang Jiayan and Liu Yan, the master and disciple. Zhang Jiayan is a hypocritical saint, always claiming to only do news and not get involved in personal matters, but as soon as her own interests are at stake, she immediately steps forward.
She uses the excuse of a child needing urgent medical treatment as a way to manipulate Ye Chen into providing information. And even after obtaining the information, she doesn't care about the consequences of her reporting, whether the children will be able to receive treatment in the future or not, she just wants to report it!
Liu Yan, on the other hand, never learns from her mistakes. She repeatedly causes trouble with her thoughtless remarks, acts recklessly, and speaks without caution. Yet, she always seems to have good luck on her side, like she's the embodiment of the halo of a typical Chinese idol drama protagonist.
Truly befitting a master and disciple...
She is a selfish person, only caring about her own job and dreams. She doesn't even care about outsiders like Ye Chen, let alone her boyfriend's job. It can only be said that in this drama, the flaws of each character are quite evident.
No one has been deliberately given a perfect character design.
Xiaowei's younger sister confidently accuses Xiaowei and even shifts the blame for transforming into a "tai mei" onto her. Deep down, she probably also looks down on her own mother, so she places all her expectations on her older sister and sees her as a mother figure.
Wen Hui Xin didn't give Xu Shi Qing a hard time just to seek justice for Xu Xiao Wei. It was because she didn't like her subordinates scheming behind her back and wanted to suppress her arrogance. It's similar to how Fang Tai wanted to suppress Wen Jie.
Superiors don't like subordinates who overshadow them and engage in covert actions without permission.
When a group of people turns evil, kindness becomes silent. This is the root cause of campus violence. When a group of people treats someone poorly as the norm, if one more person mistreats them, that person won't think they're in the wrong.
So, it takes courage to confront this evil. Clearly, Xiaowei is weak and fragile. She lacks the strong inner strength to stand up against this wickedness. Previously, she hid her family background, and later, she hid her education level.
Although she, herself, has no issues with her academic performance, personality, character, or social skills, she is extremely panicked on the inside. Her fear stems from the threats of her younger sister and her boss, and she lacks the courage to refuse or resist.
This is the source of her low self-esteem in her depression. In reality, her sister's problems have nothing to do with her; they are not the reason she became a parasite. Her boss's dominance is not directed at her personally; it's her own character.
Although her education level can be used against her, it is also her stepping stone. She fails to see herself clearly.
Episodes 14 and 15, compared to the previous plot, felt a bit lackluster. After their joint live broadcast, the next opponent should be an external one. It would be intriguing to have Hua sister make an appearance and have a showdown, rather than spending two episodes focusing on developing supporting characters whose personality traits are already apparent.
They can be embellished through the main storyline and then left at that. After all, Hua sister has a backstory that deserves two episodes to shape her character. Once the scenes with the opponent are filmed, she can reappear as the director of another department in the company, initiating power struggles at the higher levels.
By episode 26, the plot should be mostly set, and the last two episodes can introduce a major crisis, with everyone working together and taking on the responsibilities of a journalist to bring the story to a close.
