Episode 18 recap: Mrs. Fang asked Zhao Minhua to suppress Wen Huixin.
Xu Xiaowei went directly to find Wen Huixin with a very lofty attitude. Wen Huixin did say that Xu Xiaowei could come back, but she requested Xu Xiaowei to deliver news during the early morning slot. Xu Xiaowei readily agreed, and Wen Huixin called Mr. Zhong to inform him that she had intercepted the news.
Liang Jingru invited Xu Xiaowei to dinner to celebrate her return to the television station. She even invited him to be her partner because she knew she would need more news to climb further up the ladder.
During a company meeting, Zhao Minhua directly sat in Wen Huixin's seat and mocked her in front of everyone. Wen Huixin naturally did not allow Zhao Minhua's scheme to succeed. Zhao Minhua also approached Mrs. Fang, who had invited her to the company to suppress Wen Huixin.
Wen Huixin's aim now was to deliver quality news rather than make the anchors famous. They are the epitome of being detached from the world, and there's simply no one who can replace them. That's why George can lose a thousand times and still have news to report, while on the female anchor side, one mistake and they either get laid off (man, that was close!
) or get sent to the border regions.
Jiayan's problem is that she's too idealistic. She's willing to sacrifice herself for the sake of real news, but the thing is, once you've made that sacrifice, who will remember you after the news hype dies down?
She also realizes that she's not as selfless as she thought. She still cares about rankings, while the man hides in the background, leaving Jiayan to take all the blame.
Afterwards, he doesn't even go find her or pull her out from the clutches of the newspaper. This is the problem with idealists. They think they're noble, but after a period of cold realization, they discover that they're not so noble either.
And when they try to salvage the situation, they find themselves on the brink of a dead end.
I enjoy watching TVB dramas because they depict real-life situations. Even though their portrayal of Hong Kong life may differ from mainland Chinese dramas, we still share common ground.
I can always find traces of myself in their stories and receive a dose of positive energy. It's not forcefully imposed on me but rather those small moments of warmth, a fleeting gaze, or a simple action that somehow manages to heal my depressed mind and body.
I've truly grown tired of the repetitive cultivation themes and unrealistic portrayals of career, family, and idol dramas in mainland Chinese dramas.
