Episode 8 recap: Dean Pan has Alzheimer's disease, and Chen Hui performs surgery for Fan Qiqi.

Chen Hui went to buy breakfast and bumped into Yuan Ye and He Tong together. Chen Hui didn't show any courtesy and only paid for his own portion, while He Tong, who arrived later, helped to pay for Yuan Ye's portion as well using mobile payment. The breakfast vendor criticized Chen Hui for not being considerate and told him to learn from He Tong. However, Chen Hui didn't understand what he was supposed to learn.

Yuan Ye advised Chen Hui to apologize to Director Liu, but Chen Hui didn't leave. Yuan Ye loudly called out Chen Hui's name, and suddenly, Chen Hui remembered his sister. Surprisingly, Yuan Ye's voice sounded exactly like his sister's. Chen Hui went to find Dean Pan and questioned him about whether his sister had really died. He mentioned that he had seen her. Dean Pan followed him and saw a girl named Fan Qiqi who indeed resembled Chen Hui's deceased sister.

Dean Pan was worried that Chen Hui would be distracted and advised him not to get too involved. However, Chen Hui insisted on helping Fan Qiqi. Dean Pan made a phone call to the inpatient department, asking the doctors to find a way to adjust a bed for Fan Qiqi so she wouldn't have to stay in the corridor for a long time. Fan Qiqi was diagnosed with lymphoma, but Chen Hui was somewhat skeptical and sought confirmation from the attending physician.

Yuan Ye noticed Chen Hui's deep concerns and realized that he was worried about Fan Qiqi's illness. When she saw Fan Qiqi's lab report, she told Chen Hui that they should go to the Hematology Department as surgery couldn't treat her. However, Chen Hui insisted that she was his patient. Fan Qiqi's mother came over and said that she knew about her child's condition and they were planning to give up treatment and go home. However, Chen Hui strongly disagreed.

Dean Pan found Director Liu and told him about his Alzheimer's disease. He hoped that Director Liu would take care of Chen Hui. However, Director Liu believed that Chen Hui's personality would inevitably cause trouble, so he suggested transferring him to the Radiology Department, where the interpersonal relationships were simpler. Dean Pan instructed Director Liu not to involve Chen Hui in Fan Qiqi's treatment, and Director Liu assured him that he understood and would make appropriate arrangements.

Chen Hui was diligently searching for information about blood diseases. He proposed his new perspective, suggesting the possibility of misdiagnosis and the presence of a massive spleen caused by blood-sucking parasites. He requested Fan Qiqi's mother to have her blood tested again. Bai Mei tried to persuade him that the possibility of misdiagnosis didn't exist, but Chen Hui persisted and even offered to pay for a CT scan for the patient.

Fan Qiqi suddenly fell ill, and Chen Hui hurriedly rushed over to treat her. Seeing him calmly treating her, Bai Mei and other colleagues stood by in astonishment. Fan Qiqi had organ rupture, and Chen Hui prepared for exploratory laparotomy. He discovered it was spontaneous splenic rupture and bleeding. Director Liu arranged for Chen Hui to lead the surgery, despite everyone's persuasion to not act on impulse. Liu Zhen Wei still added Chen Hui's name to the surgical list.

Director Liu mentioned that this was Chen Hui's first surgery, but Chen Hui corrected him, saying that the street thoracotomy was his first, and this was the second. After hearing this, Liu Zhen Wei smiled with relief. Dean Pan watched everything from a distance and couldn't help but worry for him. Chen Hui felt nervous, but his colleagues comforted and encouraged him in their own ways.

Director Liu solemnly reminded Chen Hui to ensure the safety of his patient under his surgical knife. Chen Hui finally calmed down and began to focus on the surgery. After the exploratory laparotomy, Chen Hui discovered that the spleen was infiltrated by lymphoma. After the spleen was removed, the surgery concluded. Everyone looked at Chen Hui with admiring eyes. Director Liu informed Fan Qiqi's mother that the surgery went smoothly, and her child's life was out of danger. The grateful mother followed along with the stretcher back to the ward.

Seeing that Chen Hui was somewhat exhausted, Yuan Ye suggested going out with He Tong to relax, but Chen Hui insisted on staying to care for the patient. Everyone worried about his stubbornness. Yuan Ye encouraged Chen Hui to express his inner pressure. Chen Hui guiltily mentioned that he couldn't save his sister and now couldn't save Qiqi. Yuan Ye and Bai Mei tried to persuade him that it wasn't his fault, but Chen Hui believed it was.

When Fan Qiqi woke up and saw Chen Hui, she knew he hadn't slept all night to take care of her. While Chen Hui was talking to Qiqi, another clinical patient experienced kidney failure. Worried that Qiqi would be scared, Chen Hui drew the curtain. Qiqi advised Chen Hui to go to sleep, and he promised to leave the ward only after agreeing.

Back at home, Chen Hui lay on the bed and started dreaming. His sister's voice echoed in his ears, but when he called out to her, she kept getting farther away. His sister was no longer there, and Chen Hui fearfully avoided his father's scolding.
