Episode 5 recap: Wang Lei's mother was killed.
He Er Qing took over a lot of territories, and the bosses were furious with him. They wanted to teach He Er Qing a lesson, so they attended a meeting hosted by Cheng San Ye. During the meeting, everyone had different ideas. Some wanted to undermine He Er Qing's arrogance by any means necessary. Others just wanted to live peaceful lives and didn't want to get involved. Tempers flared, and in the end, they all agreed that He Er Qing didn't understand the rules. Before they could establish the rules, He Er Qing took the initiative to visit and got confronted by Second Master's men at the door, resulting in a heated confrontation. After entering, he warned Zhong Er to keep his men in check, or he would directly come after Zhong Er for trouble.
Ever since Jie Zi betrayed him, He Er Qing's heart turned cold. He didn't want to join any so-called righteous gang and admitted that he was just a thug. He directly stated that he wanted half of the South City territory. As for the territories he previously took over, anyone brave enough could come and claim them. If they didn't dare to, they should swallow their grievances. Cheng San Ye saw that He Er Qing wanted to establish his own rules and couldn't help but mock him for thinking too simplistically, yet he didn't dare to directly confront He Er Qing.
Xu Wei Biao, Lin Zhi Hua, and Zhang Peng had a day off today, and Zhong Yu Nan approached them. The group of friends gathered and had a delightful time. Xu Wei Biao expressed his desire to study hard during the summer break and change his previous image in Lin Hong Mei's heart. He fantasized about a future where they loved each other.
Looking at Xu Wei Biao, who was brimming with youthful excitement, Lin Zhi Hua and Zhang Peng couldn't bear to look. Lin Zhi Hua had heard from Lin Hong Mei that Wang Lei was in a dangerous situation, so he followed Lin Hong Mei's method and gave Wang Lei an injection. Zhong Yu Nan joined in the fun and wrote the character "Wang" on Wang Lei's arm, which led to everyone teasing him for being a dog. Soon, chaos ensued among the group.
Zhang Peng had put up several posters of sexy female stars in the small storage room, arousing curiosity among everyone regarding intimacy. They secretly formed a group and went to watch a movie. Just as they were getting into it, they suddenly noticed Xu Wei Dong sitting in the back row. Xu Wei Biao immediately wanted to leave, and the group discreetly got up. However, the lights suddenly turned on, exposing them all. They had no choice but to awkwardly greet Xu Wei Dong and quickly run away while he was feeling embarrassed.
Wang Wei was dissatisfied when Zhong Yu Nan first took on the demolition work and then got beaten up by the gang. He took cash and went to find He Er Qing. When He Er Qing learned of Wang Wei's intentions, he hesitated at first, but Ding Yi, who was instigating things on the side, said that those kids deserved to be taught a lesson. Only then did He Er Qing nod and agree to deal with them.
Ding Yi and his men took the funeral wreaths from Wang Lei's house and set them on fire. While the flames burned, Ding Yi declared that the fire in the brazier must not be extinguished, forcing people in the neighborhood to step over it. Wang Lei's mother sat in the store, observing everything coldly. When Wang Lei returned and saw Ding Yi and his men bullying his family, he immediately rushed over and beat them down, nearly killing Ding Yi.
In an attempt to stop Wang Lei, his mother got stabbed. That night, she drank too much and lay down in the coffin. Seeing his intoxicated mother mistaking him for his father, Wang Lei understood the hardships she had endured over the years. Softening his heart, he carried his mother back to bed and discovered a family photo that had been carefully placed there. He realized his mother still missed his father. After taking care of his mother, he returned to his room.
The next day, Wang Lei went out to buy something, and Ding Yi brought Ling Qian into Wang Lei's house. When Wang Lei's mother saw Ding Yi's excessive bullying, she slapped him directly. Enraged, Ding Yi immediately engaged in a struggle with Wang Lei's mother. Wang Lei's mother grabbed a bottle of liquid from the cabinet and splashed it on Ding Yi's face. This provoked Ding Yi's violent nature, and he, along with Ling Qian, ended up stabbing Wang Lei's mother to death on the spot.
When Wang Lei returned and saw his mother lying in a pool of blood, he was overwhelmed with grief. He tightly embraced her lifeless body and wept. Sun Haijie was in charge of investigating the case of Wang Lei's mother's murder. He requested that Wang Lei leave the body at the police station for a few days to gather evidence and find the culprits. However, when Wang Lei returned and saw Ding Yi's departing figure, he refused Sun Haijie's request. On that day, he made funeral arrangements for his mother.
At the memorial hall, Xu Wei Biao questioned who was behind the attack, but Wang Lei remained silent. Lin Hong Mei, looking at Wang Lei's cold and stern expression, became deeply worried. She wanted to say something but didn't know how, so she had no choice but to turn and leave. Wang Lei placed the cherished photo of his mother in the coffin, accompanying her in eternal rest. He lost interest in life after his mother's death and was determined to avenge her. In the eyes of Xu Wei Biao and others, this version of Wang Lei appeared to be lifeless until later when they discovered that Wang Lei had been searching for Ling Qian to avenge his mother. Unfortunately, they were powerless to stop him.
To be honest, I didn't quite understand it. A single person can't dominate a whole martial arts organization. It's not practical to rely solely on being ruthless in any era. Having personal combat skills can be an advantage, but there are plenty of people like that in society.
Money can attract followers. And then there's the scene where he threatens all the prominent figures in the martial arts world by himself. Just by saying "I want half of Chengnan," what makes him think he can demand that?
Is it just because of his words or his fighting skills? I can only say it's impressive! It's a bit theatrical and not very realistic.
