Episode 5 recap: Song Yang and Huang Xiaotao teamed up to investigate the case. Song Yang made a significant discovery at the crime scene.
When Song Yang was a child, he overheard a conversation between his grandfather and a person in black. His grandfather told that person about his early experience in studying autopsies and why he chose to hide his identity. Song Yang, being a smart child, knew that the bloodline of the Song family must not be broken. Wang Dali finished making coffee, and Song Yang hurriedly returned. Wang Dali asked about the girl, and Song Yang told him that she had left.
While Song Yang was accompanying Sun Bingxin, Huang Xiaotao watched them from a distance. When Song Yang returned to his attic, he suddenly felt that there was someone behind the curtains. He quickly pulled the curtains open and found Huang Xiaotao standing there. Huang Xiaotao noticed that Song Yang's place was filled with confidential files from the police station, which piqued her curiosity about his identity. She had previously checked Song Yang's records, but everything before the age of twelve was a blank.
Huang Xiaotao pressed Song Yang for answers about his true identity and how he obtained the case files suppressed by Chief Sun. Song Yang knew that she had secretly looked into the cases suppressed by Chief Sun, so he proposed to collaborate with Huang Xiaotao. When Wang Dali saw that Song Yang was about to leave, he insisted on following him, convinced that Song Yang had taken on a private job without him. Song Yang claimed that he was going to the funeral parlor, but Wang Dali persisted in tagging along.
The two arrived at the funeral parlor, and Wang Dali, feeling fearful, stayed outside to keep watch while Song Yang entered the mortuary alone. Song Yang examined the female corpses with pierced neck arteries meticulously. Coincidentally, Huang Xiaotao appeared there as well, startling both of them. Huang Xiaotao compared the investigation files with Song Yang's findings, and they deduced that the killer was likely a rare case of anhidrosis patient.
Impressed by Song Yang's extensive expertise, Huang Xiaotao couldn't help but admire him and asked where he acquired such knowledge. Song Yang recalled his strict upbringing and supervision by his grandfather during his childhood. While Song Yang remained inside for a long time, Wang Dali, who was eavesdropping at the door, heard a conversation between Song Yang and someone else, which startled him. When he entered the room, he was surprised to see Huang Xiaotao. However, upon seeing the dead bodies, Wang Dali couldn't stop vomiting.
Song Yang and Huang Xiaotao discussed visiting the crime scene the next day, and Huang Xiaotao agreed to help with the arrangements. The front entrance of the crime scene was heavily guarded by the police, so Huang Xiaotao suggested they enter from the back. Once inside the room, Song Yang suddenly detected the smell of wild animal feces, likely from bats. He noticed a suspiciously dangling electric wire near the wall and pulled it down, revealing a hidden camera on the ceiling.
The police officer on duty at the front entrance heard noises coming from the room and quickly rushed in to investigate. They were surprised to see Song Yang and Huang Xiaotao, but Huang Xiaotao claimed that they were sent by Chief Sun to investigate the case as experts.
