Episode 6 recap: Surveillance footage reconstructs the course of the incident. Song Yang investigates the suspects at the welfare home.
Director Sun Hu returned to his office and discovered traces of tampering with the files. Sun recalled his conversation with Song Yang's grandfather, who had mentioned the Jiangbei Remnant Blade. He assured Song Yang's grandfather that he would ensure Song Yang's safety. The police apprehended the person who installed the surveillance cameras. Huang Xiaotao forced him to retrieve the footage of the deceased. They carefully reviewed the footage but could only see the face of the woman, Ata. The man, however, always wore a mask. It was evident that the woman willingly engaged in a sexual game with the man, but they then witnessed the man suddenly leaning over and sucking blood from the woman's neck.
Wang Dali exclaimed that it was a vampire, and a large number of bats flew in. Song Yang and Huang Xiaotao arrived at the crime scene and sprayed eel blood on the beams, deliberately attracting the bats. At the same time, Wang Dali shouted loudly. Another person was discovered in the video. Song Yang and Huang Xiaotao approached to investigate and indeed found a person spraying eel blood onto the beams in the video.
Upon careful observation, they noticed that this person walked unsteadily, possibly showing signs of post-stroke sequelae. Additionally, one of his arms was visibly longer than the other. Song Yang decided to start the investigation at the welfare home, and they indeed found a person named Baiye. The caregiver told Song Yang that Baiye was pitiable, physically weak, and socially withdrawn. One night, Baiye even ran to the chicken coop and killed many chickens, terrifying everyone with his blood-stained appearance.
They met with the director of the welfare home, who expressed sympathy for Baiye. The director only knew that Baiye's mother was a hostess with a bad temper and neglected him due to her profession. Eventually, she abandoned him. However, the director said that Baiye ran away when he grew up and they hadn't seen him since then. After leaving the director's office, Song Yang told Wang Dali that he had a strange feeling about the director. He believed that the director was not telling the truth. Wang Dali asked how he could tell, and Song Yang explained that when the director was explaining the situation, his eyes were evasive, and he unconsciously touched his nose, indicating that he was lying. However, Song Yang admitted it was just speculation and lacked concrete evidence.
Song Yang received a call from Huang Xiaotao, informing him that they had discovered the address of a person with rheumatism. As Huang Xiaotao described it, Song Yang looked up and saw that the welfare home's name was exactly what Huang Xiaotao had mentioned: Mengzhe Welfare Home. He suddenly realized who the accomplice was. Song Yang hurried back to the welfare home, but the staff informed him that the director had already left.
Just as Huang Xiaotao was about to go out to find Song Yang, Director Sun Hu arrived and blocked her path. Song Yang and Wang Dali rushed into the director's office, which was now empty. Song Yang carefully examined the room and gently moved the large alarm clock with his hand.
