Episode 2 recap: Ma Jia was targeted and urged to resign.
When Ma Jia saw Jiang Da Qiao, due to his inner discomfort, he accidentally blurted out "Mayor," which piqued the curiosity of those around. Although Jiang Da Qiao felt somewhat offended, he didn't hold it against Ma Jia. During a hospital meeting, Ma Jia was angry because Jiang Da Qiao became the director while he was overlooked. At first, he didn't want to attend the meeting but changed his mind at the last moment. However, he chose not to sit next to Liang Sen Lin and instead went to sit with Suleiman.
Liang Sen Lin noticed Ma Jia's dissatisfaction, and his expression became somewhat gloomy. After introducing Jiang Da Qiao, who had been working hard in the remote areas, Liang Sen Lin asked everyone to cooperate with Jiang Da Qiao in his upcoming work. Ma Jia's response was a mix of praise and criticism, seemingly eloquent but actually hurtful. Many present were intelligent individuals who naturally sensed Ma Jia's discontent.
Liu Xiao Xian had now accepted the fact that her program was being replaced. She decided to choose a new topic and work harder. However, Sister Nan completely disregarded her chosen topic and focused on recent viewership ratings, implying that Liu Xiao Xian's program had the lowest ratings. She advised Liu Xiao Xian not to produce programs related to people's livelihoods anymore. Despite this, Liu Xiao Xian wanted to make another attempt, but Sister Nan bluntly stated that the station would implement an elimination system for the lowest performers. Liu Xiao Xian immediately realized that she might be the one eliminated.
Jiang Da Qiao noticed that the surgical summaries in the department were not being completed promptly. He held a meeting and specifically requested everyone to write the summaries clearly within twenty-four hours after the surgery. Ma Jia performed four to five surgeries daily, which was quite challenging for him considering he barely had enough time for sleep. However, Ma Jia agreed to the request and diligently followed through.
Doctors in the same department suggested that since it was late, Ma Jia could simply copy and paste similar medical records. Ma Jia strongly disliked this suggestion and criticized his colleagues, stating that they were unworthy of being doctors. After all, surgical summaries were important information and would serve as crucial references for future treatments. In Ma Jia's moment of disappointment, Ding Kai once again asked to meet with him. This time, Ding Kai made a promise that if Ma Jia joined their hospital, he would become the acting director and be in charge of the entire department.
Ma Jia struggled with intense internal conflicts, and when he finally decided to drink the tea symbolizing their collaboration, Ding Kai was coincidentally called away by President Jin for something urgent. This caused Ma Jia's thoughts to waver once again. Jiang Da Qiao instructed someone to remove some of the plaques and replace them with new regulations. The workers inferred Jiang Da Qiao's intentions and removed all of Ma Jia's plaques, leaving none behind. This made Ma Jia believe that Jiang Da Qiao was targeting him, and in anger, he called Ding Kai.
Upon learning this, Liu Xiao Xian advised Ma Jia not to act impulsively. She noticed that Ma Jia expressed bias against Liang Sen Lin and resentment towards Jiang Da Qiao both in his words and between the lines. However, she acknowledged that Ma Jia was indeed a highly skilled doctor and respected his decision. Nevertheless, she reminded Ma Jia that he should still talk to Liang Sen Lin and have a conversation.
Ma Jia bought a gift that Liang Sen Lin liked and went to visit him, but he discovered that someone else had already given Liang Sen Lin the same gift. To his surprise, the person turned out to be Jiang Da Qiao, who always seemed to be one step ahead. Ma Jia couldn't help but make a veiled remark, suggesting that Jiang Da Qiao was capable of becoming the director, always one step ahead.
Liang Sen Lin was not pleased with Ma Jia's sarcastic comment and warned him to stop. Jiang Da Qiao sensed that Ma Jia had something to discuss and said he had to pick up Jiang Yao from school, leaving the opportunity for Ma Jia to express his dissatisfaction once again. Ma Jia felt that every time he was about to be promoted, Jiang Da Qiao would intervene and ruin his chances.
Liang Sen Lin was angry when he noticed Ma Jia's constant complaints. He felt that Ma Jia had changed and no longer recognized him, relying solely on his skills and becoming arrogant. Ma Jia was taken aback by Liang Sen Lin's perception of him and fell silent, indicating that he no longer wanted to stay at Jiang Da and would seek his own path.
When Liang Sen Lin realized what had happened, he became frustrated and anxious, but Ma Jia was already far away. Ma Jia returned to his office, collected all the plaques that belonged to him, and took the one that meant the most, leaving behind a resignation letter. Jiang Da Qiao saw the resignation letter and promptly handed it over to Liang Sen Lin. He initially wanted to explain the misunderstanding to Ma Jia, but Liang Sen Lin knew about Ma Jia's temperament and didn't want to indulge his bad habit.
After submitting his resignation letter, Ma Jia tried to contact Ding Kai, but he learned that Ding Kai, who had promised to wait for him, had been transferred. This meant that Ding Kai couldn't fulfill his previous commitment to Ma Jia. Ma Jia found himself at a loss, not knowing what to do. Ding Kai advised Ma Jia to go back and talk to Liang Sen Lin to plead his case, but Ma Jia couldn't swallow his pride. Meanwhile, news began to spread in the hospital about Ma Jia's intention to leave, and many people expressed regret at the prospect of losing such a valuable and capable colleague.
