Episode 7 recap: Ma Jia is learning the Washiri language to communicate with patients.
The Chinese medical team arrived at the hospital and respective departments for a handover of work. They discovered that the hospital's equipment was extremely outdated. Wu Mei asked several healthcare workers about a heparin cap but none of them knew what it was. Wu Mei couldn't help but feel anxious for the patients. As a pediatrician, Peng Wei performed a magic trick on a young patient, making the candy disappear. The little girl immediately burst into tears, and Peng Wei awkwardly returned the candy.
Despite feeling unwell, Ma Jia insisted on going to the surgical department for the handover. He learned that the patient with a small yellow sign hanging by their bed was an HIV-infected individual, which made him a little apprehensive. After all, it was his first time being in such close proximity to an AIDS patient, and he would be performing the surgery on that patient. Unable to bear the severe abdominal pain, Ma Jia finally agreed to undergo an ultrasound examination after being persuaded by Peng Wei. Marion, who had previously studied in Shanghai and spoke fluent Chinese, received Ma Jia. When she confidently asked Ma Jia to undress completely for the X-ray, Ma Jia was stunned.
Jiang Da Qiao, as the team leader, was responsible for meeting with the hospital director, Kango, and explaining the water and electricity issues the team faced upon arrival. Jiang Da Qiao requested Kango's assistance in resolving the problems. Kango had a deep appreciation for Chinese culture and had motivated the entire hospital's doctors to learn Chinese for the sake of better communication. Kango immediately agreed to ensure everyone could take a bath that evening and promised to replace the aging water pipes and electrical wiring.
After Ma Jia's examination, he finally received his medical report and went to find the doctor for his prescription. To his surprise, Marion was on duty. Remembering the embarrassing experience of being naked during the X-ray, Ma Jia couldn't face Marion again and quickly pulled Peng Wei with him, hoping that Peng Wei could prescribe medication. However, since they had just arrived in Kasei and the Ministry of Health had not yet issued their medical licenses, Peng Wei was unable to prescribe medication. Instead, he brought Ma Jia to General Practitioner Dimas.
Ma Jia wanted to receive an IV drip to recover quickly and not affect his work the next day. However, Dimas insisted that Ma Jia was not in critical condition and refused to administer the treatment. Ma Jia couldn't believe it and, with Peng Wei's support, left. He returned with medication brought from China and asked Peng Wei to administer it.
Dimas witnessed the scene and felt that Ma Jia and Peng Wei's actions showed disrespect towards him. The hospital director, Kango, went to discuss the matter with Jiang Da Qiao. As Ma Jia, supported by Peng Wei, returned to Maile Village, they saw Jiang Da Qiao waiting sternly for them.
Ma Jia believes that there is nothing wrong with using medication he brought from China to treat his illness. He even offered to reimburse the cost of the medication. However, Jiang Da Qiao is concerned about Ma Jia's attitude. He believes that Ma Jia sees himself as a savior, which is why he disrespected the on-duty doctor in another country's hospital and treated himself. Wu Mei, seeing the confrontation between Jiang Da Qiao and Ma Jia and knowing that Ma Jia is not feeling well, quickly intervened to mediate. In the end, Jiang Da Qiao decided to suspend Ma Jia and Peng Wei from duty for two days to temporarily resolve the issue. Ma Jia returned to the dormitory and thought about his experiences over the past few days. He couldn't help but blame Suleiman for causing him so much trouble. He sent a message to Suleiman, vowing to confront him when they meet again.
Jiang Da Qiao, faced with the trouble caused by Ma Jia twice in a row, was extremely frustrated. In a video call with Liang Sen Lin, he vented about Ma Jia's actions. Liang Sen Lin advised Jiang Da Qiao, as the team leader, to be more lenient. They talked about Mount Kilimanjaro, which reminded Jiang Da Qiao of the first aid mission in Sanra where they had to retreat due to conflicts. Many patients were waiting for surgeries at that time, and some even walked hundreds of kilometers on foot just for a chance at treatment. This was a lingering issue in Jiang Da Qiao's heart. He wanted to see if those people were still alive, as a substitute for all the medical team members who could not be there to check on them.
Ma Jia didn't listen to Jiang Da Qiao's advice to rest at home and went to work as usual. Due to the language barrier, he was rejected by patients. When he sought help from Zheng Gang, a Caucasian doctor treated the patients on his behalf. This left Ma Jia feeling frustrated, but he realized the barrier of language communication. As a gesture of exchange, he offered to teach Marion five phrases in the Washiri language in return for her teaching him every day.
Shi Zhu Zi runs the best Chinese restaurant in Sanra. In preparation for the arrival of the 25th medical team, Shi Zhu Zi bought the best and freshest ingredients from the market and instructed the head chef to prepare them well. Jiang Da Qiao sat in the car on the way to the restaurant, feeling increasingly anxious. When he got off the car, he pretended not to recognize Shi Zhu Zi, but the eye contact they exchanged revealed that they knew each other for a long time.
