Episode 1 recap: The bestselling novel has doubts.
On June 18, 2018, Dragon Boat Festival, heavy rain poured down, with lightning and thunder. Around 1 am on the 19th, the victim Zhang Qing was found dead in her home in a urban village, the suspect Li Fei was arrested and later prosecuted by the procuratorate for robbery and rape. Li Fei only admitted to robbery and rape, but denied killing Zhang Qing, and requested the police to conduct further investigation.
One year later, the case was re-investigated. The bureau chief summoned the household registration police officer Jiang Guang Ming to a meeting, and planned to hand over this important case to her. The new officer Shi Luo was seen reading a novel in the office by the bureau chief, who then asked him to write a self-criticism, and rejected his request to volunteer to investigate this case at the meeting.
Meanwhile, Gu Ji Ming's new book "Black Rain" became a bestseller, making him a famous and popular writer. He held a sharing session at a bookstore, and publicly introduced his girlfriend Su Zhen Zhen, who was a disabled person in a wheelchair, suspicious by nature and possessive, but deeply in love with Gu Ji Ming.
After work, Gu Ji Ming had to meet with people from the publishing house for a drinking session in the evening, but Su Zhen Zhen did not go. Shi Luo attended a book sharing session and shared his recent reading of "Black Rain." While reading, he suddenly realized that the description of the environment at the beginning of "Black Rain" was strikingly similar to the area around the victim Zhang Qing's house, especially the green iron gate and the rainy, power-cut night. Shi Luo shared his discovery with Jiang Guang Ming and the other team members, suspecting that Gu Ji Ming might have been present at the crime scene, and could even be the perpetrator, though this was just a speculation that Jiang Guang Ming and the team did not pursue.
