Episode 2 recap: Shi Luo falsely claimed illness to investigate the case.
Seeing that Shi Luo was still researching novels, the team members reminded him to listen to Jiang Guang Ming, after all she was a master detective before. Shi Luo felt somewhat resentful and decided to go find evidence. The father did not agree with Su Zhen Zhen and Gu Ji Ming's marriage, as he thought his daughter had only known Gu Ji Ming for a year and did not really understand him.
Upstairs, Gu Ji Ming overheard the father-daughter conversation. One year ago, on June 26, 2018, Gu Ji Ming met Su Zhen Zhen's father at a business dinner, and boldly introduced himself and his novel to the father, who then agreed to recommend a publisher if the novel was good. Gu Ji Ming was overjoyed.
But when he returned from the restroom, everyone had left, and his novel was almost thrown away by the server as trash. Now, Gu Ji Ming was having a meal with Su Zhen Zhen and her father, and after Su Zhen Zhen left the table, her father asked Gu Ji Ming if they had met before knowing each other, and Gu Ji Ming, for some reason, denied having met before.
Shi Luo took a two-day leave, claiming illness, to investigate in Fanghai. Jiang Guang Ming called him, reminding him to drink water and rest, unaware that Shi Luo was lying. Subsequently, Jiang Guang Ming and Xiaoqiang went to the crime scene to look for the dog leash, but couldn't find it, though they did find many photos of the victim Zhang Qing and her dog.
One photo had the background of a pet store, so they followed this lead and found that the victim Zhang Qing often rescued stray dogs, and bought most of her pet supplies from that store, including the dog leash. Jiang Guang Ming bought the same type of dog leash to bring back to the team, and forensic analysis indicated this type of leash could potentially be the murder weapon.
Jiang Guang Ming had the other two continue investigating Zhang Qing's social connections, while she went to find the dog. Gu Ji Ming was giving a speech at his alma mater, located in Fanghai, and Shi Luo deliberately went there to attend.
During the Q&A session, Shi Luo asked a few questions, but Gu Ji Ming denied ever going to Qinjiang, stating that this crime novel was entirely fictional.
Shi Luo did not give up, and called Liu Qiang, asking him to help check Gu Ji Ming's travel records. When Liu Qiang was checking the records, he was discovered by Jiang Guang Ming, who immediately realized that Shi Luo had asked him to investigate Gu Ji Ming. Liu Qiang reported that there were no records of Gu Ji Ming traveling to Qinjiang, including any flight records.
The incident occurred on the Dragon Boat Festival last year, when Qinjiang experienced a thunderstorm and all flights were canceled. Jiang Guang Ming became suspicious, as her husband had claimed to have taken a flight to return home to see her when she was injured. Coupled with her husband's strange WeChat step count, Jiang Guang Ming grew suspicious and waited for her husband to return from work to question him.
The husband became agitated due to Jiang Guang Ming's interrogative tone. Later, Jiang Guang Ming went to her mother's place for dinner, and her mother immediately assumed it was Jiang Guang Ming's fault. However, Jiang Guang Ming told her that her husband was having an affair.
Liu Qiang informed Shi Luo of the investigation results and said that Jiang Guang Ming already knew that Shi Luo had been investigating Gu Ji Ming in Qinjiang, and advised Shi Luo to go back and explain the situation to Jiang Guang Ming. Shi Luo went to the magazine where Gu Ji Ming had worked to investigate, but since he had no official reason, he had to pretend to be conducting an interview to gather information about Gu Ji Ming.
Jiang Guang Ming went to the seafood market to look for a dog, but found that it was not the victim's dog. Her husband's affair with a woman named Chen Wewei had been going on for nearly a year before it was discovered. Jiang Guang Ming was irritated and refused to accept her husband's apology. She took over Xiao Zhang's shift and did not want to go home.
Gu Ji Ming, looking at the fish in his house, suddenly remembered Shi Luo's questions and recalled that he might have seen Shi Luo at a previous sharing session, where he seemed to have talked like a police officer.
