Episode 5 recap: Jiang Na's whereabouts remain a mystery.
One year ago, Jiang Na thoughtfully brought Tang Xun some writing paper as a gift. In return, Tang Xun gave her a book with his autograph. Afterward, Jiang Na helped him keep the hotel about his pet dog a secret, and even walked the dog for him during her breaks - their relationship was growing closer.
Flashing forward to the present, Liu Qiang called Jiang Guang Ming to report that Zhang Qing had a college friend who had inquired about her before the incident, but since the friend had no fixed residence or job, they had not yet found this person.
Recently, Jiang Guang Ming has been feeling drowsy not only in the mornings, but also in the afternoons, though due to work demands, she hasn't paid it much mind. Little Zhang has been feeding the stray cats around the hotel, and Jiang Guang Ming learned that Jiang Na used to love animals, often feeding the strays, and even got into trouble over a stray dog.
At first Jiang Guang Ming didn't think much of it, but when she returned to the hotel room, she decided to go out again, and coincidentally Shi Luo was also heading to the front desk, so they went together. After Little Zhang's identification, the small dog that Jiang Na had been walking was very likely the same one that Zhang Qing had lost, even the leash matched up.
Jiang Guang Ming had Little Zhang share some other details, and he showed them the belongings Jiang Na had left behind, which included a novel by Tang Xun. Jiang Na's diary had an IOU, indicating she had previously borrowed some money from Little Zhang when she was being extorted, and later paid him back after receiving her paycheck.
Shi Luo pulled out the postcard taken from Tang Xun's home, and the handwriting matched Jiang Na's. Jiang Na had been walking a friend's dog, and Jiang Guang Ming and the others deduced that the friend was likely Tang Xun, but why would Tang Xun bring Qin Jiang's dog to Fanghai.
According to Tang Xun's wife Yanghu, Tang Xun did not bring a dog home, so the whereabouts of this dog and leash are likely only known to Jiang Na. The publisher's CEO praised Gu Ji Ming's new novel highly, but when Gu Ji Ming tested him, he found the CEO hadn't actually read the novel at all.
Gu Ji Ming got a bit upset, and hearing other employees commenting that the novel wasn't as good as "Black Rain", his pride was hurt, so he demanded to delay the novel's publication.
Zhang Xiao told Jiang Guang Ming that the manager of a group-buying website named He Peng had previously inquired about Jiang Na at the hotel.
Shi Luo then called Liu Qiang and asked him to help find He Peng's contact information and address. The two went to find He Peng to understand the situation, and unexpectedly discovered a photo of He Peng and Gu Ji Ming, who had previously been roommates.
Jiang Guang Ming further inquired about Gu Ji Ming with He Peng, and He Peng said that Gu Ji Ming was a good person, hardworking and loyal to his friends.
When asked if Gu Ji Ming knew Jiang Na, He Peng denied it. As the investigation progressed, the case became more complex, involving more people. Knowing they had to stay overnight in Changle, Gu Ji Ming falsely claimed to be ill, and Su Zhen Zhen went to Changle alone to attend her cousin's wedding.
He Peng contacted Gu Ji Ming, and the two agreed to have a meal together. During the meal, He Peng mentioned the police and their understanding of Gu Ji Ming's situation, and Gu Ji Ming gave a simple explanation. Gu Ji Ming got drunk, and He Peng took him home.
Su Zhen Zhen did not stay in Changle but rushed back, and coincidentally encountered He Peng bringing Gu Ji Ming home. Gu Ji Ming had no choice but to admit that he had lied about being ill, and Su Zhen Zhen did not seem angry.
The manager asked Zhang Xiao to clean up the storage room, which included Jiang Na's belongings. Jiang Guang Ming asked her to keep Jiang Na's belongings with her. This unexpected discovery led Jiang Guang Ming to find that the handwriting on the draft paper was remarkably similar to the opening of "Black Rain." Shocked by this discovery, Jiang Guang Ming suddenly felt dizzy and fainted.
