Episode 24 recap: Ji Yang and Nan Yan Join Forces to Kill Li Chi
**Episode 24:**Knowing that the demon cultivators would not stand idly by during the sacrificial ceremony, Huo Wuji, determined to protect his people, added Dawn Flow Grass to Nan Yan's candle to ensure it wouldn't extinguish. Ji Yang, recognizing Huo Wuji's love for his tribe, saw through his plan and declared that there would be no Evil Venerable left in the cave after today.
As they spoke, everyone saw A Su emerge with a candle, followed by Nan Yan supporting Hui Xiang. It turned out that Li Jin had disguised himself as A Su and entered the cave, immediately attacking Nan Yan and threatening Hui Xiang to force her to hand over the candle. Nan Yan, indifferent to the position of the Venerable Queen, simply gave the candle to Li Jin.
Meanwhile, Nan Yi, who was about to marry the mermaid, learned that she had been captured and imprisoned in a cage. People flocked to see her, hoping to obtain her Silver Jiao Pearl. Unaware of his beloved's fate, Nan Yi, believing it cruel to extract the pearl while she was alive, killed the mermaid to end her suffering. This act, however, caused his beloved immense grief, leading her to slaughter the entire city in revenge.
This tragedy led to Nan Yi's current downfall. He believed that Yin Ya and Mu Zhan Ting were guilty of releasing the demon race and questioned their disregard for the consequences. Yin Ya, however, believed Nan Yi was not inherently cruel and that the incident in Linglong City had a hidden reason. She, too, was driven by the need to save her people, even if it meant sacrificing herself.
Touched by their determination, Nan Yi agreed to give them a single incense stick's worth of time to break through the barrier. The guards demanded the password, threatening to execute anyone who got it wrong. Mu Zhan Ting, with Yin Ya by his side, performed some exorcism rituals to deceive the guards.
As the guards realized their mistake and pursued Yin Ya, Mu Zhan Ting stepped in front of them, buying her time to escape. Meanwhile, Huo Wuji opened the formation to let A Su in, only to be surprised by the arrival of Li Chi. Huo Wuji tried to stop him but was injured in the fight.
At this critical moment, Nan Yan and Ji Yang appeared, revealing that the Blood Phoenix hairpin Li Chi held was fake and urging them to stop their futile efforts.
Enraged by this revelation, Li Chi attacked. Ji Yang instructed Huo Wuji to take everyone else and left to face him. During the fight, Ji Yang pierced Li Chi's palm with his sword. However, Li Chi did not dodge but instead chanted an incantation. Taking advantage of Ji Yang's distraction, he used the Soul-Swapping Evil Art, exchanging their souls.
Nan Yan immediately recognized the evil art. Li Chi couldn't control Ji Yang's body, and Sen Luo's desire to possess Ji Yang's body completely took over. With Nan Yan's help, Ji Yang successfully used the Soul-Swapping Art again to return to his own body. He confronted Li Chi, demanding to know the identity of the person behind him. Li Chi remained silent, while Li Jin pleaded with Nan Yan and the others to show mercy. However, Li Chi refused to reveal anything and committed suicide in front of everyone.
Li Jin, heartbroken, explained that her brother was once a good person but chose to become a demon to protect her. He killed the leader of the Heavenly Demon Dao Sect and took his place. Later, he learned the Soul-Swapping Art, which caused him to alternate between his human and demon states. Li Jin knelt down, willing to bear all the consequences for her brother's actions. Nan Yan, suppressing his murderous intent, angrily told Li Jin to leave.
Ji Yang calmed Nan Yan down. After they left, they revealed the truth about the Evil Venerable to everyone. The Evil Venerable's possession of the Blood Thorn Rose had amplified its bloodlust, and the women they sacrificed each year were merely a temporary solution. Nan Yan and Ji Yang assured everyone that they had completely resolved the Blood Thorn Rose threat and hoped that Huo Wuji would take care of Hui Xiang and her younger brother.
Huo Wuji and the villagers readily agreed, promising to never let Hui Xiang and Ba Jiao go hungry or cold as long as they had food to share. Nan Yan and Ji Yang then left the village and worked together to reclaim the幽泉狱 (Youquan Prison).
