Episode 27 recap: Nan Yan Meets Her Uncle Nan Yi
In Episode 27, during the process of the Bitter Master subduing the demon, Ji Yang is bound to a wooden stake shaped like a human, with demon-suppressing nails driven into his palms, ankles, and chest. Yin Ya, witnessing Ji Yang’s immense pain, can’t bear to watch, but the Bitter Master insists that only by driving in the nails can the seal be effective, preventing the escaped Senluo from returning.
Meanwhile, Nan Yan leaves the demon-infused Li Jin outside and enters the formation to find her uncle, Nan Yi. They reunite, and Nan Yan is heartbroken to see her uncle blind and in such a state. Nan Yi mocks himself, saying that he should have been executed for slaughtering the people of Linglong Capital. If it wasn’t for his elder sister advocating for him and his friend taking the blame for him, he wouldn’t be alive, let alone exiled here to atone for his sins.
When Nan Yi mentions Nan Rao, he feels a pang of sadness, thinking his elder sister must still be angry. But Nan Yan tells him that Nan Rao has passed away, leaving Nan Yi deeply saddened. Nan Yan explains that their mother always suffered from a heart condition that never healed. Nan Yi is confused, wondering why his sister would have such a condition, as she was a Divine Transformation cultivator and had the Phoenix Heart protecting her, which should have shielded her from the threat of thirty Heavenly Thunderbolts.
Nan Yan is shocked to learn that she has demon blood in her and that those who possess the Phoenix Heart are immortal and can live for ten thousand years, meaning she no longer has a demon core. Nan Yi asks Nan Yan to tell him everything about her sister’s life, and based on the clues, he suspects someone stole the Phoenix Heart. Nan Yan suspects the person who stole the Blood Phoenix hairpin is the culprit, and this person is also a Divine Transformation cultivator.
Nan Yi warns Nan Yan not to act rashly and reveal herself. He gives her the Phoenix Tail Bell that Nan Rao left behind, which, using her Red Sun bloodline as a guide, can help her find the Blood Phoenix hairpin. The hairpin points towards the Dragon Capital, and Nan Yan gives the Silver Dragon Pearl to Nan Yi before setting off. Nan Yi forcefully breaks free from the formation and leaves.
Ji Yang, under the control of the demon-suppressing nails, cycles through periods of painful unconsciousness and painful awareness, suffering immensely. Yin Ya decides to use his Heart-Entering Technique to help Ji Yang. The Bitter Master tells him that he can only maintain the formation, and whether Ji Yang can withstand the demonic energy depends on Yin Ya’s own cultivation.
Fortunately, the Fox Queen arrives just in time, and together they break the formation. Yin Ya is deeply worried about Ji Yang’s safety and enters the formation without hesitation. Meanwhile, Meng Xiao Lou receives news from Dao Sheng Tian and immediately sends people to find Ji Yang. They encounter Nan Yan and Li Jin at a teahouse.
Despite Li Jin’s disguise, he is recognized by the Sword Sect disciples. Meng Ying accuses Li Jin of being an accomplice in Meng Zhi Guang’s murder and is furious that Nan Yan has been protecting him. Because of her father’s death and Nan Yan’s attitude, Meng Ying is heartbroken and disappointed.
At that moment, the Dragon Capital guards appear and arrest Nan Yan and Li Mian, taking them to prison. Nan Yan requests to see the young master, Mu Zhan Ting, and asks for someone to deliver a letter to him. Li Jin regrets getting Nan Yan involved, but Nan Yan doesn’t care.
Meanwhile, Mu Zhan Ting is engaging in a poetry competition with his fiancée, and their relationship has progressed significantly. However, he accidentally injures her. Mu Zhan Ting receives Nan Yan’s letter and rushes to find her. He orders his men to bring Nan Yan to him. His fiancée is angry that Mu Zhan Ting has become irresponsible since befriending them and demands that Nan Yan never approach Mu Zhan Ting again. As a condition, she offers Nan Yan a box of spirit stones and demands that she and Li Jin leave the Dragon Capital.
With Yin Ya’s help, Ji Yang not only regains consciousness but also destroys Senluo’s soul. They both sustain minor injuries. However, Yin Ya doesn’t seem happy. He is unharmed but weak, and he asks the Bitter Master to confirm what Senluo said earlier.
