Episode 4 recap: Role Reversal Between Ji Yang and Nan Yan

In Episode 4, the Soulmate Seal is an ancient and mystical artifact that can not only connect the feelings between two people, but also reveal their innermost thoughts. Ji Yang used the Soulmate Seal to gain insight into Nan Yan's heart and mind. He immediately decided he couldn't leave, determined to stay by her side until she successfully concocts the powerful Five Poisons Talisman.

Nan Yan was perplexed by Ji Yang's sudden change in attitude. Ji Yang candidly told her that he is actually a deity, and claimed he had placed a deadly curse on her, saying she would perish if she strayed more than ten steps from him.

Terrified, Nan Yan urgently sought help from Mu Zhan Ting to break the supposed curse. Mu Zhan Ting's exorcism methods were comically ineffective, leaving Nan Yan amused rather than reassured.

When Mu Zhan Ting later encountered Ji Yang, he mistakenly assumed Ji Yang was also a devoted follower of the Deity Sovereign. Ji Yang seized the opportunity to spin an elaborate ruse, leaving Nan Yan impressed by his acting skills.

After Mu Zhan Ting left, Ji Yang sternly warned Nan Yan not to attempt breaking the curse, threatening Mu Zhan Ting's life. Nan Yan, in awe of the Deity Sovereign's power, unquestioningly believed Ji Yang's words.

Meanwhile, Fu Lang, jealous of Nan Yan, destroyed her beloved Ziziphus tree. Just when Nan Yan was distraught, Ji Yang used his extraordinary abilities to revive the tree, deeply touching Nan Yan and strengthening her complex feelings toward him.

At the bustling Ravine Market, the ship "Butterfly Pleasure Boat" was a hub for information trade. Its owner, the eccentric Daoist priest Diezan, was interested in handsome men. The Fox Prince Yin Ya, believing himself to be charming, visited to trade the Revitalizing Fruit for intel on the Filthy Valley, unaware of the dangers there, including the soul-snatching yin beasts.

Back at the Moon Reverence Sect, Ji Yang imposed numerous rules on Nan Yan, requiring her to report to him daily and serve him. Though displeased, Nan Yan complied. One night, Fu Lang was ambushed, possibly in retaliation by Ji Yang for the tree incident.

The next day, Ji Yang took Nan Yan on an outing, where they encountered a vendor selling Reclining Armor Butterflies. Though Nan Yan was reluctant to spend money, she purchased one as a gesture of gratitude for Ji Yang reviving the tree. To her surprise, Ji Yang then gifted the butterfly to her, creating a subtle bond between the two.
