Episode 26 recap: Reunion of Xing Man and Bai Zhe.
Two men approached. Xing Man sprained his foot, and Bai Zhe carried Xing Man aside, knocking down the two men himself. Xing Man stated that he did not bring those two men here. Xing Man wanted to go back with Bai Zhe, but Bai Zhe disagreed. Xing Man felt that Bai Zhe didn't care about his safety at all, so Bai Zhe reluctantly took Xing Man back.
Bai Zhe applied medicine to Xing Man's foot, and Xing Man asked Bai Zhe if she was the first girl to come here. When they went to sleep at night, Bai Zhe told Xing Man to sleep on the bed while he slept on the couch. Xing Man was afraid that Bai Zhe would escape, so she hid his phone under her pillow.
Although Bai Zhe discovered it, he didn't say anything. Xing Man took Bai Zhe's keys, and Bai Zhe asked her to return them, but Xing Man refused. Bai Zhe lifted Xing Man up, pretending to throw her into the sea, but Xing Man wasn't afraid.
Bai Zhe didn't notice that Xing Man's neck was injured. He blew on it for her, and Xing Man suddenly struggled. Xing Man woke up in this time and space, feeling inexplicable. It seemed that she had just been handing out flyers, but suddenly she was in this place again, and she saw Bai Zhe, this lunatic.
Xing Man woke up and saw the note she had left on the mirror. Xing Man met Bai Zhe at the beach, and they had a great time together. Bai Zhe said it was the last time they would meet, and he hoped Xing Man would always be happy. He admitted that he had fallen in love with Xing Man but decided to seek revenge.
Bai Zhe kissed Xing Man, and Xing Man came back again. This time Xing Man's older brother didn't die, and Bai Zhe fell in love with him, but Bai Zhe still died. Xing Man kept thinking about what to do. She had to reignite Bai Zhe's hope for the future.
Finally, Xing Man found Bai Zhe. Bai Zhe said they were supposed to go on a date today. Bai Zhe came to the bookstore and took a sticky note from the message wall to give to Bai Zhe. She asked him to write down three things he wanted to do in the future, and she promised to help him fulfill his wishes. Although Bai Zhe wrote them down, he didn't show them to Xing Man.
Xing Man returned to the present and found the note Bai Zhe had written. Bai Zhe wanted Xing Man to forget about him. Xing Man thought that perhaps revenge was the most important thing for Bai Zhe, and everything she had done was meaningless. However, she still wanted to confirm it once again.
Xing Man went back to the past again. A group of people took him into a car. It turned out to be the day of the kidnapping, and Xing Man felt determined to change everything. This time, Bai Zhe took Xing Man away. Xing Man urged Bai Zhe to leave quickly, otherwise, they would use him to threaten Bai Zhe, and Bai Zhe would get hurt because of him.
A car came crashing towards them, and Xing Man watched Bai Zhe die in front of him. Xing Man realized that since everything couldn't be changed, she wanted to forget everything about Bai Zhe and end the pain. Xing Man returned to the past once again, feeling like a piece of her heart was empty.
Xing Man's nose started bleeding, and it dripped onto the jade pendant, reminding her of everything again. Bai Zhe came to find Xing Man and said he had something important to do. Xing Man had one final wish. She considered Bai Zhe as her family and wanted to have a meal together with him.
Xing Man and Bai Zhe arrived at the seaside. Xing Man expressed that Bai Zhe had no idea what she had done for him. She picked up the jade pendant and threw it into the sea. This time when Xing Man went back, she brought a suitcase to the seaside but didn't find her jade pendant. Suddenly, Bai Zhe appeared behind Xing Man.
However, Bai Zhe explained that after the day Xing Man left, he went back and retrieved the jade pendant. With the memories Xing Man had created for him, this time he chose to hand over all the evidence to Xing Man's older brother. He had someone more important now. Xing Man and Bai Zhe embraced each other affectionately.
(The drama ends)
My heart aches for Xing Man. She was ignored as a child and grew up being prickly towards everyone. It was Bai Zhe's appearance that softened her heart. He became someone she cared about. She came to know that her father had sacrificed himself to protect her.
The person she cared about, however, got entangled in a revenge plot and ultimately lost his life. Now, Xing Man is left alone, yearning for him. She wants to forget but finds herself trapped in the pain of losing her loved one.
As a fan of suspense dramas, I don't understand why the screenwriter had to incorporate romantic clichés into a suspense drama. They even included elements like time travel and rebirth. What kind of genre is this? This drama was a complete letdown.
It started off confusing, but I could manage. However, as it progressed, it became more and more frustrating. I'm not against having a romantic storyline in a suspense drama, but they could have portrayed it better. The redemption arc for Bai Zhe was just too far-fetched!
After watching, I would give it a 7 out of 10. The storyline is indeed good, but the individual heroism is too strong, and the overall focus is only on the protagonist and that sidekick chasing fugitives, making the other police officers appear useless.
There are also logical issues. First, when the protagonist receives a phone call while chasing a fugitive and his car breaks down halfway, it's unbelievable that he continues on foot. Second, when the protagonist sees Bai Zhe, a criminal, for the first time, his immediate reaction is not to arrest him but to run around with him.
Third, the most unbelievable part is that the evidence, a watch, from the scene where the protagonist's girlfriend and the leader of the disciples commit a shooting, is taken away by the second disciple (and this happens while the protagonist is present at the scene).
After staying up late to finish watching, I almost overlooked the plot of the case. The only thing I loved was this CP (couple) in the drama. To enhance the relationship between this CP, they even filmed two extra episodes.
It really calmed my excited little heart. Bai Zhe and Xing Man in the extra episodes were so sweet. I loved it so much. I hope they will continue to collaborate and maybe have second and third seasons.
I will continue to support them.
