Episode 20 recap: Three children vouched for Chi Yue's innocence.
County Lord Tai intended to hold a court trial regarding the incident where Chunniang was drugged. Ji Hong, accompanied by Li Ziqiang, Li Zichen, and Li Zixi, beat the drum to seek justice for Chi Yue. Ji Hong and the three children entered the court, coincidentally encountering Chi Yue. The three children surrounded Chi Yue and called her "mother." Li Zichen explained that although Chi Yue was their stepmother, she treated the three of them exceptionally well, despite having no blood relation. It was for the sake of providing them with a better life that she engaged in business in the county.
Chunniang was affiliated with County Lord Tai and was carrying his child. When Chi Yue saw Chunniang coming to drink, she would naturally try to establish a good relationship with her, rather than harm her. County Lord Tai understood the interests at stake and immediately realized that if something happened to Chunniang and her daughter, Li Yi would be the one benefiting the most. In order to prevent the family's disgrace from being exposed, County Lord Tai released Chi Yue on the spot and imprisoned the accomplice who had prepared the drugged drink to escape. After returning to the residence, County Lord Tai summoned Li Yi and angrily slapped her, reproaching her for not managing the tavern properly and for being suspected of harming others, and placed her under house arrest.
Li Yi never expected that her attempt to steal the chicken would result in losing the rice. She grew to resent Chi Yue. After taking care of the three children and putting them to sleep, Chi Yue became tired and dozed off. In her dream, she heard a voice reminding her that she didn't belong here and that on the next lunar eclipse, she would return to the modern era. Worried about the recurrence of the accomplice's incident, Chi Yue discussed with Zhang Dagui about hiring some village women from Xikong Village to help at the shop.
Zhang Dagui shared the profits with Chi Yue and mentioned that Li Ping was also skilled in business. He couldn't understand how she ended up being murdered in Xikong Village, which had no banditry issues. This statement raised suspicions in Chi Yue's mind.
