Episode 5 recap: Xiao Yan was mistakenly accused of being a spy and was put in confinement. Yao Chen punished his disciple Han Feng.
Due to the significant events involving the Soul Hall, Gu Yao, the head of the Gu Clan, was concerned that the Soul Hall coveted the Fallen Heart Flame. He went to see the academy's dean and, while returning the authority over the Medicine Forest, informed the dean about the appearance of the Soul Hall's claws in the Canglan Academy. Many years ago, the Soul Hall had caused trouble in the Dou Qi continent, and the news of their harm was well known. After all these years, the Soul Hall had unexpectedly reemerged in the Jia Ma Empire and posed a threat to the Canglan Academy. This news shocked the dean and the elders.
Xun Er confirmed that she had a twin-like connection with two individuals the previous night, and their corrupted aura after being enveloped in black mist matched the rumors. Gu Yao, the head of the Gu Clan, asked the dean who in the Jia Ma Empire could be colluding with the Soul Hall. The dean recalled a person known as the Medicine Emperor, Han Feng, who was always accompanied by two old men.
After hearing this, Gu Yao said that it made sense. Fifty years ago, the last leader of the Soul Hall, Hun Mie Sheng, had led the Soul Hall organization to rise again and wreak havoc in the Central Plains. They were eventually sealed and perished by the Ancient Clan. Han Feng came from a reputable faction but willingly attached himself to the Soul Hall. After the great battle, he vanished and has now reappeared in the Jia Ma Empire.
The dean believed that it was rare for Gu Yao to discover remnants of the Soul Hall during his nocturnal visit to the Medicine Forest. However, Hao Zhang Lao persisted in accusing Xiao Yan and pointed out that he was also present in the forest. Xun Er hurriedly explained that Xiao Yan went to the Medicine Forest to save his older brother and only sought to obtain the Ice Fire Dragon Beard Fruit. But Hao Zhang Lao refused to believe that a mere Dou Spirit like Xiao Yan could refine a Grade 6 Qing Ming Longevity Pill.
Hao Zhang Lao stubbornly insisted that Xiao Yan was the spy colluding with the Soul Hall and demanded punishment. However, the dean believed that such a grave matter of colluding with the Soul Hall required substantial evidence. As the tower was set to open the next day and Xiao Yan was under suspicion, the only option was to confine him until the investigation was concluded. These pills enhanced a person's Dou Qi and were specially taken by the elders to strengthen the seal of the Heavenly Flame Refining Tower and protect the Fallen Heart Flame inside.
Just when Xiao Yan was becoming impatient, the true champion of the Strong Ranking Competition, Zi Yan, arrived. She easily defeated Hao Zhang Lao with a small strategy and released Xiao Yan. Xiao Yan invited her to enter the tower together, but Zi Yan showed no interest. Xiao Yan then saw Yao Chen and noticed his worried expression. He asked Yao Chen what was wrong, and Yao Chen told him about one of his former disciples who had been tempted by the Soul Hall's greed and had become a lackey for them.
He told Xiao Yan to rest well as there would be a fierce battle tomorrow. In front of the Heavenly Flame Refining Tower, the dean solemnly led the disciples in performing the tower-opening ceremony. He ordered the top ten disciples of the Strong Ranking Competition to enter the tower. Just then, Han Feng, the Medicine Emperor, descended from the sky and mockingly asked why he wasn't invited to the tower-opening ceremony. The dean coldly replied that the Canglan Academy was not a place for him to come and go as he pleased, and the Heavenly Flame Refining Tower was not something he could enter just by saying so.
Han Feng claimed that he didn't want to come either but was entrusted by the Soul Hall to come and subdue the Fallen Heart Flame inside the tower. He said that if they handed over the strange fire, he would spare them, but if not, he would make them disappear from the Jia Ma Empire. The dean remained unmoved and ordered the elders to protect the tower, but even though the elders took the pills, they couldn't gather any strength.
Bai Shan stumbled as he ran over and angrily pointed at Han Feng, saying that it was he who tampered with the elders' pills. Hao Zhang Lao then realized that the traitor in the Canglan Academy was his own disciple, Bai Shan. Bai Shan begged Hao Zhang Lao for forgiveness, explaining that it was Han Feng who made him take the Purple Heart Breaking Barrier Pill and forced him to become an insider in the Canglan Academy. Hao Zhang Lao regretted deeply and scolded Bai Shan for being foolish.
While they were talking, Han Feng prepared to fly up and enter the tower. However, Xiao Yan arrived just in time and stood in his way, with Xun Er rushing to the front as well. Han Feng revealed his own strange fire, but Yao Chen told Xiao Yan that it was just a subsidiary fire and not to fear it. However, he couldn't bring himself to do it, and Han Feng took advantage of the opportunity to launch a sneak attack on Yao Chen and then rushed into the tower.
