Episode 14 recap: Sun Zhong Shan unfortunately passed away.
On their way back, Jiang Xian Yun and others were given some food and clothes by the local people. They didn't know what to do at first, but Director Zhou told them to accept it since it was food and clothes. Jiang Jie Shi saw Director Zhou and thought that the army had developed very well under his leadership.
Director Zhou asked what their next deployment should be, and Jiang Jie Shi handed a bag of eggs that the villagers had just given them to Director Zhou, suggesting that they discuss it after eating. Mao Ze Dong led the people of Shaoshan, carrying the body of Zhu Sanmao, who was killed by Cheng Xu Sheng, to his doorstep.
Cheng Xu Sheng asked Mao Ze Dong where he should put his dignity with his current actions. Mao Ze Dong asked how they should handle Zhu Sanmao. Cheng Xu Sheng wanted to deny the incident, but Mao Ze Dong asked if he wanted witness testimony or physical evidence.
Before they could continue their conversation, Guo Lubin came out of Cheng Xu Sheng's house. Cheng Xu Sheng saw Guo Lubin and quickly nodded and greeted him. Mao Ze Dong noticed that Cheng Xu Sheng was afraid of this person. Cheng Xu Sheng immediately offered to pay for Zhu Sanmao's burial and promised to send a pig to Zhu Sanmao's family.
Mao Ze Dong felt that trading a life for a pig was unacceptable, and Cheng Xu Sheng, seeing that Mao Ze Dong was not backing down, invited him to discuss the conditions inside the house. Mao Ze Dong told Cheng Xu Sheng that it was only right for him, as a landlord in Shaoshan, to collect rent, but the rent he charged was too high, and the farmers struggled to make ends meet.
Mao Ze Dong hoped that he could reduce the rent by 50%. Cheng Xu Sheng thought he was joking when he heard this. He had to support the various expenses of the local defense bureau, so he couldn't agree to this request. Mao Ze Dong mentioned the accounts of the local defense bureau, and it turned out that many of the projects' funds were unknown to Cheng Xu Sheng.
Upon hearing this, Cheng Xu Sheng, in front of Guo Lubin, had no choice but to agree to Mao Ze Dong's request to reduce the rent by two taels. In the evening, Cheng Xu Sheng discussed this matter with his wife, suggesting that they make up for the reduced rent from other sources.
Cheng Xu Sheng believed that this year would definitely be another year of severe drought. He said that the grain in the granary couldn't be sold, as it would surely triple in value. Sun Zhong Shan, unfortunately, couldn't hold on and passed away in Beijing in 1925. Li Da Zhao and others came to mourn him, and Jiang Jie Shi led the students of the military academy in taking an oath to fight and win, to comfort the soul of the late Premier.
Mao Ze Dong told Yang Kai Hui that since the Opium War, China had been plagued by internal and external troubles, with the people suffering greatly. Mr. Sun Zhong Shan had dedicated his entire life to the revolution, which had not yet succeeded. While they were talking, someone came to call Mao Ze Dong, saying that someone was looking for him.
Mao Ze Dong saw that it was He Shu Heng and a few others coming to visit him. He Shu Heng thought that Mao Ze Dong's complexion had improved a lot. Mao Ze Dong told them that he had made up his mind. This time, when he returned to Shaoshan, he wanted to root himself in the countryside and among the farmers.
He Shu Heng had come this time to report on their work. Mao Ze Dong felt that farmers were different from workers. They only cared about their own plots of land, as long as they had land to cultivate. Mao Ze Dong told them that they must awaken the farmers' revolutionary consciousness and unite them.
Mao Ze Dong believed that although Sun Zhong Shan had passed away, his cause had to continue. Mao Ze Dong told them that there were currently two very important matters. The first was to focus on the peasants, and the second was the need for development, which required emphasizing military talent.
After hearing this, He Shu Heng felt that both of these matters were arduous and distant tasks. Mao Ze Dong said that regardless of success or failure, they had to start walking the path. Cheng Xu Sheng invited various clan leaders to his house for a meal, and they criticized Mao Ze Dong together.
Cheng Xu Sheng told them that Mao Ze Dong had established a women's night school in the ancestral hall. This angered them greatly, as they felt that women should not enter the ancestral hall. As expected, during the night, one of the clan leaders, Luo Lao, led a group of people to surround the ancestral hall and captured the women.
