Episode 24 recap: Mao Zedong had a third child.
Yang Kaihui told Mao Zedong that another remarkable woman had emerged in the Mao family. Mao Zedong took the paper from Yang Kaihui's hand and read it. The war had claimed many lives in Hunan and Hubei, and Jiang Jieshi had already sent a telegram from Guangzhou, inviting them to move the capital to Wuhan.
Mao Zedong believed that Jiang Jieshi did this to consolidate his power and that Jiang Jieshi had started fighting with his troops. Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai, along with many Communist Party members, sang songs together, filled with passion, hope, and strength. He Shuheng and others held red flags in the streets of Changsha, setting off firecrackers to celebrate the victory of the war.
Li Zixin anxiously waited on the street for Jiang Xianyun to return. She asked if anyone had seen him, but there was no news. In the middle of the night, Li Zixin heard someone knocking on the door. She opened it slightly, but didn't see anyone. Suddenly, someone covered her mouth from behind. Li Zixin struggled and turned her head, only to find that the person was Jiang Xianyun, the one she had longed for day and night.
Li Zixin told Jiang Xianyun about the situation she was facing, similar to what Mao Zedong had experienced. As long as they acted uprightly and with integrity, they shouldn't worry about others gossiping. Jiang Xianyun told her that as long as they held justice and revolution in their hearts, and as long as Mao Zedong and she knew what kind of people they were, it would be enough.
Jiang Xianyun looked at Li Zixin, who understood him so well, and couldn't help but want to kiss her. Li Zixin realized it was getting late and told him to go back quickly. Jiang Xianyun told her that he had taken leave and wouldn't be going back today. He came to visit Jumeizi (菊妹子), as he heard that she had organized a peasant self-defense force, which was quite remarkable in Changsha.
He brought a letter from Mao Zedong to Jumeizi and told her that Mao Zedong was angry with her. Mao Zedong was upset that Jumeizi only wrote letters to Yang Kaihui and not to him. He wanted her to inform him of her achievements sooner. While they were talking, Jumeizi's husband, Chen Fen, arrived, and she introduced the two of them.
Jumeizi wanted to take Jiang Xianyun to join her self-defense force, but Jiang Xianyun said he had to leave as he had other matters to attend to. Mao Zedong received Jumeizi's letter and thought she had done a great job. Zhao Hengtian had also resigned from his position as provincial governor.
Yang Kaihui looked at the signature on the letter, which resembled a sword. Mao Zedong believed that Jumeizi's current work was also unsafe, but he appreciated her gesture.
Mao Zedong came to give a graduation ceremony for the students, and he told everyone that the peasant issue was an important revolutionary matter. He hoped that the students would return and contribute to the development of the peasants, consider their needs, and work for their well-being and happiness.
Jiang Jieshi's subordinates assured him that they would definitely recapture Nanchang. Chen Yannian showed Mao Zedong a piece of news, and Mao Zedong believed that military dominance in politics was a major taboo. Jiang Jieshi thought highly of himself, and Mao Zedong agreed with his assessment.
Mao Zedong believed that everyone knew about Jiang Jieshi's ambition, and he would not give up easily. Mao Zedong thought that the day Nanchang was recaptured would be the day Jiang Jieshi would move the capital to Wuhan. Jiang Jieshi ordered his subordinates to prepare for a strong attack the next day, and he wanted Jiang Xianyun's security battalion to join, ready to besiege the city.
The soldiers were concerned about the consequences of removing the security battalion in case of an unexpected situation, but Jiang Jieshi refused to listen. He told everyone that any retreat would be dealt with according to military law. As expected, an unexpected event occurred. It was unclear who gave the signal, but the enemy forces broke in, shouting slogans to capture the command center and Jiang Jieshi.
Jiang Jieshi's men advised him to retreat quickly, but Jiang Jieshi stood still. Fortunately, Jiang Xianyun came to support in time, and the enemy forces retreated. However, Jiang Jieshi believed that since the enemy had retreated, they should seize the opportunity and launch a full-scale attack.
Zhang Jingjiang and Sun Ke approached Song Qingling about the issue of moving the capital. Song Qingling remained silent, so the two brought up Sun Yat-sen. Sun Ke told her that it was also the late Sun Yat-sen's wish, and he hoped that the Communist Party's meetings could take place in Beijing.
For now, they were only temporarily moving the capital to Wuhan, and once the Northern Expedition was successful, they would move the capital to Beijing. Song Qingling looked at the portrait of Sun Yat-sen and felt regretful that he had toiled throughout his life but ultimately left with regrets. Song Qingling told the two of them that she didn't oppose the move, but she was afraid of stirring unnecessary conflicts.
Mao Zedong saw Yang Kaihui burning paper and he felt that she was carrying their third child. He asked her to stay away from the fire, and Yang Kaihui commented on the weight of Mao Zedong's responsibilities.
