Episode 9 recap: Mao Zedong became a member of the Nationalist Party's Executive Committee.

During the meetings between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, someone proposed that the Communist Party had to leave the party if they wanted to join the united front. Mao Zedong suggested stopping the discussion and immediately starting the voting process. Jiang Jieshi (Chiang Kai-shek) listened to Mao Zedong's words and realized that he was adept at reading the situation.

Someone told Sun Yat-sen that Mao Zedong was shrewd and decisive, and their party needed such talented individuals. Mao Zedong's mother-in-law took Mao Anying (Mao Zedong's son) away to sleep, while Yang Kaihui served Mao Zedong a bowl of longevity noodles for him to eat.

Mao Zedong thought to himself that it wasn't his birthday today, but Yang Kaihui said that he would be leaving tomorrow, so they should celebrate today. Yang Kaihui remembered that Mao Zedong never seemed to have a proper birthday celebration each year. Mao Zedong told her that he actually didn't like celebrating birthdays as he found them troublesome.

However, Yang Kaihui felt that since it was his thirtieth birthday, they should celebrate it. Mao Zedong felt guilty that they spent little time together, and Yang Kaihui took care of household chores and even helped him organize documents at home. He felt he was letting Yang Kaihui down. But Yang Kaihui said she didn't feel that they spent little time together. Wherever Mao Zedong was, their hearts were connected.

The first meeting between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party was held in Guangzhou. The conference had over a hundred participants, with more than twenty members from the Communist Party. During the conference, Fang Ruilin proposed that the Communist Party must leave their organization and join the Nationalist Party. Li Dazhao immediately opposed this idea, believing that as long as discipline was followed, it should be sufficient. People started discussing the matter fervently. Mao Zedong, upon hearing this, immediately proposed to Sun Yat-sen that the discussion be stopped and a vote be taken.

Jiang Jieshi realized that Mao Zedong was someone who could read the situation well and understood that Fang Ruilin's proposal would be opposed. As expected, the majority agreed to the draft of cooperation between the two parties. However, Mao Zedong stated that while the spirit of the regulation was acceptable, it was not acceptable in its specific terms.

Mao Zedong believed that a proportional election system could be used so that favorable terms could be retained while unnecessary ones could be discarded. Jiang Jieshi, watching Mao Zedong's prominent performance, felt both annoyed and impressed. After the conference, Mao Zedong and Jiang Jieshi met, and Jiang Jieshi asked Mao Zedong to go ahead. Mao Zedong politely let him go first.

Jiang Jieshi stopped Lin Sen, who was about to leave. He noticed that Hang Xinzai's seat was empty and wanted Lin Sen to inform Sun Yat-sen and ask if he could sit there. However, Lin Sen informed him that Hang Xinzai was not available because he had passed away. Sun Yat-sen was deeply saddened, and it was not appropriate to make such a request now.

Sun Yat-sen informed everyone attending the meeting that Comrade Lenin had passed away and, in mourning, the meeting would be adjourned for three days. Someone mentioned Mao Zedong's bravery and decisiveness, describing him as a promising talent. The First National Congress of the Kuomintang established the three revolutionary policies of allying with Russia, cooperating with the Communist Party, and supporting peasants and workers, marking the formal establishment of the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party.

Mao Zedong was elected as an alternate member of the Central Executive Committee of the Kuomintang. Mao Zedong believed that unity among the people could move mountains, but Minister Hu told him that it was easier said than done. Chen Duxiu brought many documents to Mao Zedong, requiring his signature.

Chen Duxiu informed Mao Zedong that all party documents required their joint signatures before they could be issued. Mao Zedong told Chen Duxiu that the military academy had started recruiting students. Chen Duxiu was delighted to hear this news as they were finally going to establish their own army.

Chen Duxiu told Mao Zedong that he was now the secretary for both sides and couldn't neglect their respective demands. Mao Zedong assured him that he understood. Chen Duxiu expressed concern, reminding him that even with a busy schedule, he couldn't neglect sleep. Mao Zedong acknowledged his advice.

He Shuheng presided over Jiang Xianyun's wedding, as Jiang Xianyun was about to leave for the military academy in Shanghai. He had been admitted with the highest score. He Shuheng noticed Xia Minghan beside him and asked when he would get married.

Xia Minghan replied that it was still too early for him. Mao Zetan, who was nearby, mentioned that Xia Minghan had a girlfriend. Yang Kaihui suggested introducing her to everyone so they could all meet and support each other. Xia Minghan agreed, saying that he would definitely bring her to meet everyone when the opportunity arose.

Jiang Xianyun arrived at the military academy in Shanghai and went to register first. As he stood alone in front of the enrollment list, someone suddenly slapped him on the back. Jiang Xianyun turned around and discovered that it was his mentor, Mao Zedong. Mao Zedong was thrilled to see Jiang Xianyun, and the two embraced each other excitedly.
