Episode 8 recap: Pang Hong Mei misunderstood Ji Dan Yang.
Director Ge asked Du Fang why she didn't inform Bai Hui about the night shift. Du Fang explained that she had some personal matters to attend to and forgot about it. Director Ge mentioned that Du Fang didn't realize the seriousness of the phone call and announced the current order. Since Du Fang had affected the arrest operation, he requested her temporary removal from the medical team.
Bai Hui approached Pang Hong Mei and inquired about the situation. Pang Hong Mei expressed that as long as Du Fang acknowledged her mistake and was willing to change, there was still a chance for her to return. Pang Hong Mei advised Bai Hui not to worry too much. Bai Hui mentioned having a gift for Pang Hong Mei and presented her with a bracelet. Bai Hui also mentioned that Pang Hong Mei knew about her situation, being an orphan and having a good relationship with her father, and expressed her desire for Pang Hong Mei to become her sister.
Pang Hong Mei agreed to Bai Hui's request. Currently, the doctors have no way to wake up Zhang A Shui. Pang Hong Mei suggested that Bai Hui go back and ask her father if he had any solutions. After returning home, Pang Hong Mei looked at the bracelet and felt some concerns. If Bai Hui's father was truly involved in something problematic, it could potentially impact Bai Hui, even if she was innocent.
Ji Dan Yang now feels quite desolate because he is studying mathematics and feels like everyone else is busy while he has nothing to do. His colleagues comforted him, emphasizing that mathematics is the foundation for everything and the subject he is studying is indeed crucial. Bai Hui returned and informed her father about the situation, but he refused to help, claiming he couldn't do anything about it.
Bai Hui's father also advised her not to get too close to them, as it wouldn't bring any benefits. Zhang Yan asked Captain Chen about his opinion regarding Director Li in this operation. Captain Chen admitted that he couldn't say for sure and needed further observation. Bai Hui and Luo Shanshan are taking care of Zhang A Shui. Luo Shanshan feels frustrated because even though Zhang A Shui is a spy, he still gets to stay in a single-patient room with such good conditions, leaving her wondering why.
They found a key on Zhang A Shui's body, and Captain Chen ordered an investigation to determine its purpose. However, they searched both Zhang A Shui's and Ma San's homes and couldn't figure out how the key was used.
Now they need to dig a pool for an experiment, and Ji Dan Yang is tasked with this project. Ji Dan Yang mentioned his plan to use the vacant land and the pool to Secretary Lu. Pang Hong Mei happened to overhear the conversation and approached Ji Dan Yang, reminding him to keep the project confidential at all times. Ji Dan Yang needed to go to the factory for measurements and asked Pang Hong Mei to accompany him. Ji Dan Yang instructed Pang Hong Mei to handle the instruments, but Pang Hong Mei learned from others that the instrument was not meant for measuring reflection waves, leading her to believe Ji Dan Yang was playing a trick on her.
Pang Hong Mei drove Ji Dan Yang back, pretending that the car had malfunctioned and asking Ji Dan Yang to push the car from behind. Unexpectedly, the car actually broke down. Ji Dan Yang realized that Pang Hong Mei had deceived him and asked for an explanation, as he didn't understand why she would play such a prank on him.
Now they have to walk several miles on a mountain road to return. Luckily, they encountered a transportation team on their way to the factory and hitched a ride with them. Pang Hong Mei proposed the idea of having Bai Hui's father treat Zhang A Shui's illness. After considering it, Zhang Yan agreed.
Captain Chen instructed Pang Hong Mei to invite Bai Hui's father. Pang Hong Mei felt uncertain if she could do it alone, so Captain Chen suggested she ask Ji Dan Yang to accompany her, which would make it appear more natural. Pang Hong Mei approached Ji Dan Yang and asked him to walk with her.
Pang Hong Mei tried to persuade Bai Hui's father, but he disagreed, fearing that he wouldn't be able to bear the responsibility if the treatment didn't go well. Pang Hong Mei explained that they had no other options and had to turn to Bai Hui's father, as they trusted him.
Bai Hui cooked a meal, and Ji Dan Yang found it particularly delicious.
