Plot Synopsis

"Lightseeker: The Story of the Young Mao Zedong" depicts thepersonal journey of Mao Zedong from his graduation from Hunan First Normal University in 1918 to hisparticipation in the FirstParty Congress in 1921. During thisperiod, China went through tremendous changes. The New Culture Movement sparked the trend of embracing Westelearning, and the dawn of Marxism shone upon China for the first time. The May Fourth Movement raised the banners of freedom and democracy, while the chaos of warlords exacerbated the sufferings of the Chinesepeople.

Amidst this tumultuous historical backdrop, various forces surged and the enigmatic fog of the era thickened. The fate of the nation and thepeople hungprecariously like a lone boat in the desolate cold wind, with life and death at stake in an instant. In these years, Mao Zedong, in the face of national and ethnic crises, harbored great ambitions and unwavering determination as he sought thepath of salvation for the country and itspeople. He evolved from a young student into a steadfast Marxist.
