Episode 10 recap: Gu Zhiyao discovered the National Teacher's secret.
There was a severe drought in the world, with many people suffering from rampant epidemics. Wen Kexuan, the Minister of Punishments, proposed using funds from the national treasury to provide relief. Upon hearing this, the emperor immediately agreed. However, the treasury was empty, and they couldn't afford to provide such a large sum of money. The emperor was troubled by this and sought out Gu Zhiyao for help. The court was divided into two factions. Wu Degui, the Minister of Personnel, believed that Gu Zhiyao couldn't deliver on both sides, while others believed that Gu Zhiyao's ability to enter the court meant that they had the capability.
Taking advantage of the situation, Gu Zhiyao suggested that the emperor issue a decree requiring all court officials to follow their orders in providing relief. This proposition was met with opposition from all officials. In order to provide relief, the emperor had no choice but to agree with Gu Zhiyao's suggestion for the emperor himself to make a donation. As the head of the officials, the emperor initially opposed the idea. However, after being persuaded by Gu Zhiyao, the emperor decided to contribute ten thousand taels of silver from his personal treasury. Gu Zhiyao also took the opportunity to compel other officials to donate money during the court session.
Gu Zhiyao secretly entered the cave where the National Teacher practiced cultivation and happened to see that the National Teacher also had silver hair. Gu Zhiyao thought that the National Teacher might kill them to keep the secret, but the National Teacher didn't want to harm Gu Zhiyao. Gu Zhiyao expressed the desire to save Shen Jinmo, but the National Teacher didn't want to help. Gu Zhiyao used the excuse of needing protection, but still didn't succeed. Gu Zhiyao then proposed the idea of the National Teacher teaching them some cultivation methods but was rejected once again.
Gu Zhiyao learned from the National Teacher that Chancellor Shen was the teacher of the Fourth Prince. Gu Zhiyao wanted to test the prince and mentioned Chancellor Shen, which instead angered the prince. The Fourth Prince became somewhat agitated.
