Episode 13 recap: Li Yu disguised himself and moved into the Wang Mansion.
Qi Wang entered the court and reported to the Emperor that he had safely escorted the provisions back to the capital. The Emperor was pleased and praised Qi Wang for his accomplishments in the investigation. However, Liang Taishi stood nearby with a mournful face, seeking the Emperor's intervention. He claimed that there must be something suspicious about Qi Wang's inexplicable disappearance and safe return. Qi Wang accused him of intruding into the Wang Mansion and killing innocent people, but Liang Taishi argued that he was acting on imperial orders, and Qi Wang's assault on him was a rebellion against the Emperor's command.
Upon hearing this, the Emperor's expression turned sour, and he questioned Qi Wang if he had indeed attacked Liang Taishi. Qi Wang candidly admitted that he had indeed struck Liang Taishi and abruptly tore open his collar, revealing a knife wound, and asked how he should account for the assassination attempt he faced while escorting the provisions. Concerned, the Emperor descended from his throne and personally covered Qi Wang's collar, instructing him to take good care of his injury and postponing further discussion for later.
As Qi Wang was about to leave, he expressed his bitter resentment towards Liang Taishi, stating that he must be disappointed that the assassins failed to kill him, and he vowed to settle scores with him sooner or later. Meanwhile, Cheng Biyuan was preparing a delicious meal at home for Qi Wang. Mu Yuan informed her of Qi Wang's return, and Cheng Biyuan eagerly went to greet him. The two met in the courtyard, gazing affectionately at each other, but Mu Yuan reminded them to be mindful of their public image.
Qi Wang introduced the woman he had brought back, Li Yuer, claiming that she was a refugee he saved in Xiliang and had come to the capital to search for her relatives. He expressed concern about her safety amidst the chaos of war and took her under his protection. Cheng Biyuan was delighted and immediately treated Li Yuer as a sister, but Mu Yuan suspected that Li Yuer's identity was dubious and believed she was undoubtedly a cunning assassin.
